When Archer falls over backwards and shatters the jug he was using as a musical instrument, he says, "I'm 'a plant a red fern for ya, jug." imitating a hillbilly accent. This is a reference to the 1961 novel "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. The novel is set in the Ozark Mountains and tells of a boy whose dogs die, and a red fern grows over the grave

Paco was a band in the late 60’s through the 70’s who pioneer the template the Eagles later used to great success: country harmonies, acoustic guitars, tasteful electric leads, radio-friendly choruses, and a polished L.A. studio feel. Loggins would have been 65-66 when this was recorded, but Archer always exists in a weird time-suspended world. The Soviet Union still exists, the computers look ‘80s-‘90s while the cars are often ‘60s-‘70s sprinkled with some much newer, and there are cell phones from the period the show was made—they started with flip and candy-bar phones but now they have slab screen phones, although on some missions in remote places they’ve used Motorola Iridium satellite phones from the ‘90s. Maybe since the whole season is 1980s-inspired, Loggins looks like he did then.
