Don't know how familiar you guys are with New York geography but Staten Island is the part of the city that is viewed as culturally not really being a part of New York, it's basically a suburban extension of New Jersey that has no business being in NYC. Basically part of the joke of this show is that this particular house of vampires live in and "rule" over the lamest area in New York that is basically not really New York.
