Hello 👋

As promised in this month's plans post, I'm starting a new type of thread to better support the perks of the $20 tier. Here you can leave suggestions on content for the main game that's still in development- Our Life: Now & Forever. Baxter's DLC is essentially done as this point, so I'm afraid there's no time to take suggestions.

But there's a lot of things the MC can theoretically do/think/feel in OL2; all the dynamic settings, the MC's feelings on the move and house and town and school, if they're shy or rude or amiable with different people, if they break rules or not, if they're tidy/polite or messy/rowdy, and more.

I try to remember it all, but I'm sure there are situations where I don't give certain aspects enough attention. If you feel like there's pieces missing to complete the experience, now you've got a chance say so.

Please read the guidelines before commenting! I wouldn't want anyone to go to the trouble of writing down their thoughts only for it to be things I can't do.

I can't add new features, entire new scenes, or concepts that'd have to be accounted for over the whole story of the game. What I can do is add in specific choices/reactions to specific scenes to add some extra fun and make the existing content more fitting to different MC types.

Basically, I'm gonna do my best to have the game reflect a wide range of responses/emotions per scene, but I want to do that without the game's actual completion being delayed by weeks, months, or years by adding more and more totally new scenes/features to it.

Guidelines:

-Suggestions are mainly for the script. You can express an interest in new art, features, music, etc. and I'll remember that as the type of things players would want if possible based on time/budget, however my main job is as the writer and written content is what I can promise.

-Suggestions can only be for the content that's available for players to test. I won't be able to keep up with requests that apply to theoretical future scenes that don't exist. To go along with that, suggestions can't be to completely remake a current scene in a different way or to fit in entire new scenes in between what's there. This also applies to requesting MC reactions that expand over the entire game. Suggestions are for just the current scenes.

-Suggestions are for the MC and general prose. I can't do requests to change how non-playable-characters behave/speak.

-Suggestions must be appropriate for the age of the MC and the overall 16+ rating for the game. I can't make the 10-year-old MC act like an adult, not unless it's framed as clearly a child who is trying to pretend as if they're grown up. And I can't put in a ton of bad language or adult topics, especially in Step 1.

-Suggestions don't have to be specific, but that greatly increases how likely it is that what you want will end up in the game. For example, commenting that you'd enjoy silly options is something I can keep in mind when working on the game, but may not come through that well. Saying you'd like an option where the MC can tell a joke on a specific choice menu in a certain scene will give me a lot more context on what to do.

-Suggestions can be too specific, however. I can't use comments where the player actually writes out MC dialog/prose and would like that added word for word into the game. The goal is for me to create what players enjoy, I don't want to outsource filling in the script to other people.

######################################

There's also a channel in the private GB Patch discord for submitting suggestions, if you prefer to chat there.

Okay, with all that said, feel free to mention where you think the MC could have more reactions/responses and stuff!

Thanks again for playing OL2 and supporting the Patreon 💖

Hell yeah can't wait to play this update! Edit: May I ask if the MC in OL2 can be emotionless or that you can pick a fear/phobia they can have? (If you want to know, in real life I have a fear of falling when ever I go down the stairs as I always have to grab the railing just to make sure I won't fall also I have Trypophobia. Sorry for rambling)

GB Patch

I can keep it in mind when working on the game, but I'm afraid I can't do suggestions that apply to the entire story. That's the same as requesting things for scenes that don't exist yet. I'm sorry. But I'm glad you're looking forward to the update, though!

Phantasmask

loved the first game and the demo, I got addicted.Could there be the ability for the mc to get a dog?

VerlysGamingLife

I think this is a wonderful idea. I of course will keep my thoughts about my suggestions until I've played the beta that has been released. :) I'm happy to help with another game of yours.

GB Patch

It's great to see you like the games! Though, I'm afraid not. The suggestions are just for MC choices/reactions, it's not for elements that'd create changes throughout the entire story.

Psykes

For the scene where Opal suggests the MC to explore the immediate neighbourhood, could we have the option to express reluctance to leave because the MC doesn't want to leave her (such as hugging her legs; I used to do that to my Mom when I was shy around other people, until I accidentally hugged the stranger instead of her.... That broke that habit. 😲). Another possibility is the MC looking downward and frowning in reluctance to leave. Being sad about the move was an earlier option, so it would help to express these MC's feelings to Opal.

Psykes

When it comes to letting other characters know the MC's age at Stage 1, could they just stick up their fingers rather than saying the number? Whether it was because they were shy, playing coy or being mischievous, a nonverbal positive answer comes in handy.

Psykes

When Qiu calls the MC a friend, the MC has the option to say "Qiu? Thanks for using my nickname." If the MC chose "You are going to try using the nickname sometimes." when Qiu/Autumn comes to the door, could the MC say "Autumn? Thanks for using my nickname." Or at least as an additional variation for the MC to use address Qiu in this scene.

Psykes

There's one option (considering how the MC may have felt scared/frightened of the woods in previous scenes) that seems to missing when the MC and Tamarack travel together through the MC's backyard is 'That was terrifying.' (or something to that effect). My childhood home had a cemetery behind the backyard. A church faced the other way, so the cemetery laid between the two buildings. Sometimes the thought of the cemetery kept me up at night.... 😱 And that was before I watched zombie movies.

Bobcatll G

I have a couple ideas. One is that my MC is angry at their mom for moving (similar to cove feel towards Cliff) and still hasn't forgiven their mom (Yet) and the only good thing about being in Golden Grove is Qiu. I think it would be interesting, if the MC had a crush on either love interest they could tell Qiu/Tamurack how upset they are at Opal for the move. And How unfair it is that adults get to decide everything. Basically a hidden dialogue scene for having a crush as early as the prologue if possible. This could occur when MC and the Love interests are alone at the diner. Holding hands in the car on the way to the diner with the love interests. Speaking of car rides, how about some motion sickness because I for one cannot handle being in a car for even twenty minutes.

Bobcatll G

Since one of the decorations for the bedroom is a bike helmet can we also have the ability to select roller skates/Skateboard as a decoration too since they would be able to fit inside the Mc bed room. This might not fit the criteria but having the Mc look to Qiu to order their Drink at the diner

Mari

I fondly remember holding hands with my crushes in the back of my mom's car when I was younger, so I wholeheartedly agree with this!!

Mari

Now I'm not sure if this can be implemented since idk what your ideas are for Step 1, but it would be really nice if the MC has social anxiety and reaches for the LI's hand since it's a nervous habit when in public spaces. I'm just a sucker for teeth rotting cuteness and puppy love 🥺

VerlysGamingLife

even as a child with social anxiety I didn't want any attention at *all.* holding hands with someone would automatically gain the attention I *didn't* want. I would rather have no attention until the social anxiety passed. the more other people make a big deal about *my* anxiety the more anxious I'd get. (I'm near 50 and I'm still this way)

VerlysGamingLife

I did one run as a bold she/they and one as a shy she and as of this moment I have nothing to add. I just wanted to say that I adored all that added things I did noticed when I played someone that was worried about the move, the new house, and going to a new school all at the same time.

GB Patch

Those are really sweet ideas, but I'm afraid they can't be added to the prologue! The scenes for that are set and more can't be added, it's already far too long, aha. But chances to hold their hands and talk about being upset about the move will happen in the story.

GB Patch

I'm sorry, it's unlikely more decorations will be added to the room. The helmet is there to imply roller-skates or a skateboard or scooter or bike, since most people wear helmets when riding any of those.

GB Patch

Thank you for the kind words and for letting me know!

GB Patch

We can probably add that in somewhere as an optional choice!

Psykes

For the walking to school scene, where Qiu and Tamarack talk about the woods, it seems the only verbal response that has a positive affect on both of them is "It's not that a big deal." Could there also be an option to say your MC would love to explore the town and woods together with the both of them?

Issues

this might be a bit big, but i played a game called divinity sin, and there they added that certain instruments are a little louder to the player character just to give them a bit of more personal touch. Possibly just food for thought.

Mari

VerylsGamingLife, that's fine, everyone with social anxiety is different. It's just for me personally, if I didn't have something to do or something to hold with my hands it made my anxiety worse.

GB Patch

I'm afraid we couldn't do that for this game, the soundtrack isn't built for that and can't be changed to do so now, but it's a cool idea!

Psykes

When Opal and the MC are in their new home for the first time, when the MC thinks about the house ('You were amazed. It could fit in a storybook.", "It could work, once you had your stuff out.", etc.), there could be "Together with some work, you and (insert MC's alternate name for Opal) can make this house truly home."

Psykes

During the scene when Opal's getting washed and ready for her and the MC's first night, could there be an option of plugging in a nightlight?

Psykes

When Opal says "And at least we'll have each other regardless." and the MC can respond, could the MC tell her "Thank you for being my (insert MC's alternate name for Opal)!" Esp. when they are glad that Opal is there with the MC, regardless of how the MC felt about the move (sad, scared, angry, happy, excited or mixed feelings).

Psykes

When Qiu points out an example of his favourite colour, gold, he'd point out Tamarack's hair, unless the MC's hair, eyes, or clothes are gold. Could this be expanded to wearing gold coloured glasses and/or earrings? Esp. when the MC could think to themselves 'Did you have anything gold to wear at home? You were gonna have to check.' while wearing these golden items.

YaBoy Trevor

I love being able to just be quiet and let the characters talk and check in every now and then. so far yall are doing great with this in the beta i hope this keeps up

Psykes

When Mrs. Baumann tells the MC 'You can call me Granny.', could the MC ask Opal if it was OK to do so? Considering that we don't know what Opal thinks of her parents at this time, and that not knowing the paternal donor extends to not knowing the paternal grandparents, this may be a big ask esp. with Opal standing right next to the MC. Of course, there could be the nonverbal looking up at Opal to see if it was OK. Is there reluctance when doing so (i.e. MC looks quizzically up at Opal to see what reaction Opal had to this request), or practically begging Opal to say it was OK (the good ol' 'Puppy dog eyes')?

Psykes

It feels odd for the options of sitting in the Drawing Room. Of the four options to do so (two with the other chair and two with the couch), only one 'You sat on the couch very carefully.' gives the response 'You and Granny were the only ones taking the antiques very carefully.' For 'You took a seat on the chair.', it says 'It seemed like a good place to sit, though you weren't sure if anyone should use a chair if it was too old it might break if you weren't careful.' This implies that the MC would be careful with the chair, but it ends up that 'No one had taken the warning about the antiques very seriously.' Maybe first choice for sitting down in the chair should read 'You took a seat on the chair very carefully.' That would flow in better with '...though you weren't sure if anyone should sit in the chair if it was too old it might break if you weren't careful.' Along these lines, the MC would think 'You and Granny were the only ones taking the antiques very carefully.' (the same as when the MC was careful with the couch. After all, there's also the option to '...excitedly climb onto the other chair in the room' for the 'No one had taken the warning about the antiques very seriously.'

icypisces

hello ^^ not sure if anyone has suggested this, but maybe letting there be skateboard decor in our rooms as the story progresses? i gave my mc a skateboard instead of a bike and thought it would be cool if i could display it somehow. however, the option (or topic of skateboarding instead of biking) only comes up after we finish decorating and speak to mom. due to this, i didn’t know the bike helmet might not make sense for skateboarding (though i know even kids who skateboard would probably wear them for safety reasons). hope this makes sense and thank you for your time! :)

Psykes

When the MC enters the woods when taking the left route at the fork in the road, four options ('You were amazed.', 'This is your kind of place.', 'This was sort of nice.', and 'Your curiosity was piqued.') have the same result: 'With your wide, wonderous gaze thrown every which way, you let yourself flow deeper into the thicket.' The first two options fitted this reaction more, but the last two should have a more muted, although still positive reaction. Such as 'Maybe I'll explore(and/or relax) out here later on.'

Psykes

When the MC meets Qiu for the first time and the notepad papers fall to the ground, could the MC point them out (maybe with an *ahem*, hum or whistle or some other sound to get Qiu's attention) to Qiu? 'To shy to say anything, but wanting to help out Qiu...'

Psykes

When the MC is ready to take the path yet to be taken, the MC says to Qiu/Tamarack: "Thanks. I would have been scared to go alone." After the three finally met together for the first time, by the time they are ready to return to their respective homes and it's suggested they walk there together, maybe the MC could agree with "Can we please? I'm afraid to go by myself...."

killjinx

I’d prefer choices that are more or less devoid of emotion or off putting in the way that MC doesn’t read social cues correctly very well or at all!

Psykes

When the MC first meets with Mrs. Murray, could we be able to use our honorific (such as Mx. Frankie Second)? With the insistence of Qiu to use them in introducing ourselves, it's hard not to continue this with Mrs. Murray. 😁

Psykes

Could we have the option of having the paper air plane be one of the options for costumizing the bedroom at the end of the prologue? It's a beautiful memento of the MC's introduction to Qiu and Tamarack. I just remembered Qiu's 'Welcome to Neighbourhood' note and Tamarack's nature bounty. Maybe the note could be pinned up, and the nuts, leaves, rocks, etc. from Tamarack could be placed in a bowl?

Psykes

When the MC can state they also have milk intolerance/thinking it must be tough not being able to drink milk, could we also have the option of 'You were allergic to dairy.' and 'You were lactose intolerant, as well as being allergic to dairy.' They affect different parts of the body, but people these days likes to lump them together under the lactose intolerance umbrella.

some dialogue that references HRT :3
