Yes, the next OL2 beta is finally on the way! So, I've got the suggestion thread to go along with it. Here you can leave ideas for small MC script additions in Our Life: Now & Forever.

To start, I can't add new features, entire new scenes, concepts that'd have to be accounted for over the whole story of the game, or anything not script-based (e.g. art/music). What I can do is add in specific choices/reactions to specific scenes to add some extra fun and make the existing content more fitting to different MC types.

There's a lot of things the MC can theoretically do/think/feel in OL2; the dynamic settings, the MC's feelings on the move and house and town and school, if they're shy or rude or amiable with different people, if they break rules or not, if they're tidy/polite or messy/rowdy, and more.

I try to remember it all, but I'm sure there are situations where I don't give certain aspects enough attention. If you feel like there's pieces missing to complete the experience, you've got a chance say so.

Basically, I'm gonna do my best to have the game reflect a wide range of responses/emotions per scene, but I want to do that without the game's actual completion being delayed by weeks, months, or years by adding more and more totally new scenes/features to it, haha.

Not all comments may get a reply, but that doesn't mean the suggestion isn't going to be added. However, if you don't read the guidelines and request something not possible, it also might not get a comment to explain that it's not going to be added. I'm afraid it's not always possible to keep up with everything people post. So please do read the guidelines!

Guidelines:

-Suggestions are for the script. You can express an interest in new art, features, music, etc. and I'll remember that as the type of things players would want if possible based on time/budget, but anyone can do that kind of post in any place and putting it here in the suggestion thread won't give it a greater chance of being possible.

-Suggestions can only be for the content that's available for players to test. I won't be able to keep up with requests that apply to theoretical future scenes that don't exist. To go along with that, suggestions can't be to completely remake a current scene in a different way or to fit in entire new scenes in between what's there. This also applies to requesting MC elements/additions that expand over the entire game. For example, you can't request that the game should start tracking what phrases the MC tends to use and have characters comment in the future on their common phrases. Suggestions are for just the current scenes and the content that's already being tracked.

-Suggestions are for the MC and general prose. I can't do requests to change how non-playable-characters behave/speak. They are who they are.

-Suggestions must be appropriate for the age of the MC and the overall 16+ rating for the game. I can't make the 10-year-old MC act like an adult, not unless it's framed as clearly a child who is trying to pretend as if they're grown up. And I can't put in a ton of bad language or adult topics, especially in Step 1.

-Suggestions don't have to be specific, but that greatly increases how likely it is that what you want will end up in the game. For example, commenting that you'd enjoy silly options is something I can keep in mind when working on the game, but may not come through that well. Saying you'd like an option where the MC can tell a joke on a specific choice menu in a certain scene will give me a lot more context on what to do.

-Suggestions can be too specific, however. I can't use comments where the player actually writes out MC dialog/prose and would like that added word for word into the game. The goal is for me to create what players enjoy, I don't want to outsource filling in the script to other people.

There's also a channel in the private GB Patch discord for submitting suggestions, if you prefer to chat there.

Okay, with all that said, feel free to mention where you think the MC could have more reactions/responses and such!

Thank you again for playing OL2 and supporting the Patreon 💖

Um, one thing i found wishing for was more nervous/shy rambling? A lot of the shy options arent very talkative but as a child with adhd and severe social anxiety i would end up more like rambling on and getting more embarrassed and nervous the more i talked... i dont know if that would be easy or possible, but i would like more over-explaining options... like in the scenes where we meet qiu and tamarack and when we're called up to talk to the teacher? Sorry if this doesnt make sense ;-;

Nullenara

You know the scene where tamarack feels bad for bringing up the mc’s parents, i wanted to reassure her that she didn’t have to apologize or that it was okay because seeing her sad frown makes me sad :( My mc is very confident in their differences and it only being Opal and the Mc as family! (This is before beta play through)

This feels weird to ask because it may be hard to do, but, is there a way the mc can describe in more detail where they came from? If my mc came from Maryland or maybe even Texas, I should be able to say that they're from a Northeastern or Southern State. Yeah, we have the option to say that we come from very far away, but I kind of wish it was more individualized? It could explain why we don't like forests or maybe even why we think the forest is so dirty.

When I was younger I had a bad habit about trying to be funny at bad times or dodging serious questions or moments with humor. it be cool if there were some options were you could do that. like the type of person that try's to use humor to fix most problems or situations.

idk

Not a suggestion, but I wanted to pop in and say that all the options so far have been really good! OL 1 was already well above industry standards for dialogue choices, and OL 2 has been a step above even that! I'm specially grateful for more shy/introverted/non-verbal options (That piece of dialogue where Tammarck went up to my MC and *offered* to handle the transaction was so incredibly healing for me, omg just <3 )

When Mrs. Baumann asks the MC: "What do you think of calling me Granny, too?", could the MC be able ask Opal if it was alright to do so? Esp. with Opal standing next to them, in easy reach to ask permission. 😁

Glitchy Pix

I understand if this falls too far into the "feature" category to be workable but would it be possible to let the player change the reflexive pronoun for they/them to be either 'themself' or 'themselves'? Again, if that's not workable, that's understandable

Saya

would be fun if we could get options to be mischievous, and become know as a trouble maker XD

When the MC enters deeper into the woods/taking the right direction at the fork in the road, and they think about whether they like/are enchanted by or is leery about it, can there be a variant of 'It was dirty and icky.'? Considering the MC could be disappointed there wasn't something strange going on in the fridge, maybe the MC would be interesting in 'dirty and icky' things in nature/in the woods, or maybe they just like creepy stuff. 'It was dark and icky, and I liked it!' or 'It was dark and icky, and sooo cool!', where this is considered a positive to the MC. The beetle and toadstool MC stickers are so appropriate for this kind of character. 🐞🍄

I'm wondering, if we can now blurt out that we think Qiu and/or Tamarack that we think they are pretty, could we blurt out to Opal that we met 'a girl/boy/two people' who the MC's gonna/could marry if they didn't mention it after the MC and Opal reunite at their house? Maybe when they are recount their adventure looking for the person(s) responsible for the paper airplane? That way Opal could still mention that the MC 'you've already found yourself a spouse on your first day.' For one of my MCs, who was mostly nonverbal around adults and outgoing with Tam and Qiu, I was split between telling Opal that the MC met two people they could marry and 'squeezed her legs, thrilled at what happened.' That way, Opal would still know how the MC feel about their new crush(s), even if they don't say it at the front of their house?

Psykes

When Tamarack asks Opal about whether there was anything from the father of the MC in them, maybe the MC could think about the parts that don't match Opal. Such as 'You wondered what your father may have looked like, from what you didn't share with (MC's nickname for Opal).', 'You thought about your grandparents who you also shared parts with.', 'You spoke up about your grandparents, some of how you looked skipped (MC's nickname for Opal).' One of my MC's, Berry 'Blueberry' Crumble was named after his grandpa, who he'd inherited his blueberry hair from. 😁

Psykes

For the part where you follow Tamarack into your new home's backyard, 'If you faced away from the house, you'd think were in the heart of the woods.' "That was frightening." or "That was too easy to wander too far into the woods."

Psykes

Would we be able to have the paper plane that Tamarack made using Qiu's missing notebook paper, if we chose to keep it as a keepsake, be placed on the empty space on either the white dresser or shelves?

Psykes

If the MC did not return Qiu's dropped note at the end of class, could it be returned to Qiu at the restaurant (that is if Qiu was invited to The Diner Table)? During the time Opal gets up from the table to pay the bill?

Arulo

I have no idea if you're going to add this already but! I chose options that had it so Derek was implied to be afraid of the woods, I noticed when the gang decided to go into the woods, there was no mention/call back to it! It would be really cool if things mc was afraid (based off of choices) would be called back to if the group decides to do something that MC is afraid of! But also I know that's a lot of writing to do fjhsks that's the only thing I could think of at the moment! So far this has been a really detailed and amazing experience!

Psykes

I know we'll have to wait until next month for the fix to the pronoun system, but with being asked by Qiu how my MC figured he was a Mr., it reminded me of other options to tell Qiu. Such as, "My (MC's nickname for Opal) suggested it, but I might change it later.", "My (MC's nickname for Opal) suggested it, and I liked it!", "I earned it!", "I dreamed about it.", "I read about it in books."

Hressal'eert Sanguine

i do have one remark - when it comes to candy, in my opinion there should be an additional option "I like candy but I didn't feel like it right now"

Joud Alhosain

I know this is a little childish, but can we at least have a choice of ten dollars when we go to the store, please?

Psykes

When the MC reacts to Tamarack's heightened interest in Darren, could you add "Darren seemed kind of shy. She should give him space." Having been very shy sometimes as a kid, I can empathize with Darren. If the MC is still a bit shy themself, maybe this could be the start for them to become more forward with speaking out for/protective of Sir Seventh Grade?
