Finally time for us to say goodbye to the last member of the Kanto Crew! I'm not crying, you are!

Love how even the twerps are sick of blimps now

Should've been Todd

Love the bit comparing Bulbasaur to Megatron. Also, part of me is picturing James thinking, "Oh no! Winston's ghost is getting revenge on me!" when he's locked in the freezer. IYKYK.

I remember watching this with my little sister and speaking dramatically when Bulbasaur was about to die. Yeah, she started bawling and I got in trouble for that. Yet I have no regrets!

Leaf Storm

Funny you mention Shoji Yonemura. It seems he carried all these formula-stretching narratives and heartbreaking fake-outs into Smile Pretty Cure (d.b.a. Glitter Force,) and I love him for that.

Another really funny review. The humor has been great recently. As someone that hated Ash dropping his team as a kid, it really was the only natural direction to go. Ash’s Johto team might be his weakest in his entire run, and it’s because they got completely overshadowed by his Kanto team. I just wish they didn’t end up dropping old Pokemon entirely in the later seasons. They don’t need to be the spotlight, but giving them matches was a lot of fun in the BF and Sinnoh era, and they just never did it again. Such a shame

I feel like this was the first episode I truly felt present at the scripting. It’s great to see it all come together

Aaron

Great work!

I remember seeing this episode when I was a kid and thinking it was waaaay earlier in the Johto seasons, hence why I’m surprised Bulbassur was around as long as he was. I swore I thought surely Bulbasaur still wasn’t around by the time Chikorita evolved into Bayleef. Oh he was … huh. Oh well, he’s still a good boy and I loved this episode.

Fun fact: this episode aired before 223 when it aired here in the US. I remember it too.
