This is the first update to ImmersiveVC, and almost all of it came out of the feedback you sent me after the first release.
Dynamic shadows were the biggest drain on performance, especially with a long draw distance from project2dfx. They are now drawn in a way that costs about a third of what it did, and there is a Shadow range slider that limits how far shadows reach without shortening how far the city is drawn. It ships set to 100, which costs almost nothing and still looks right. Raise it if you want shadows further out.
The sea now takes its shape from the game's own water animation, so it really has waves, and there are caustics on the seabed. The horizon no longer ends in a hard line when you fly high. The pools were rebuilt too: caustics, better ripples and refraction, a colour taken from the vanilla game, and reflections that no longer lag behind what moves above them.
A few things I am especially happy with
Light beams. Headlights, tail lights and street lamps now throw real beams through the air. Driving at night looks like a different game.
Metallic grain in the paint. Car paint had flake in it before, but now there is a fine grain that catches the light and glints as the car turns.
The fake tree shadows are gone. Vice City paints flat shadow blobs under its palms at a fixed angle, so with real shadows underneath you were seeing two at once.
What is next
More optimisation. It is the work that never really finishes, and your reports are what point at the next piece of it.
ImmersiveIII, the same thing for GTA III.
ImmersiveSA rebuilt from scratch, without ENB.
ImmersiveVC is in early access for supporters. The $10 tier gets every new version first, the $5 tier gets the previous one a month later, and a free public release will follow later on. Updates keep coming for supporters after that.
Thanks for the support and all the feedback. Keep it coming, it genuinely shapes what I build next.
