New hair system

Hair in that game has always been a pain. In the worst case, there are three hair types (straight, wavy and locs) and three possible lengths, for a total of nine 3D models for each hair style.

Which is a lot of models to do, while still being too restrictive for the player.

The new system aims to solve both issues:

The new UI is very similar to how the body shape UI works. There's a 'Shape' area where you can quickly preview some presets, and a lot of hidden sliders control the individual parameters (that you can access under the advanced tab).

Your old saves will work with the new version! No manual work required!

You also get to pick how the hair strands look like in the 'Tips' section (and more shapes can be easily added later).

Color the roots and the tips with a different color to get a nice gradient, or use the link button on the right to keep them the same!

For now, I've only ported most of the existing hair to the new system, but more hair styles will be added during the next updates.

Tan system

This is still experimental, but it's ready enough to be released.

Pick a skin color, a tan color and add some patterns!

Each tan line matches the existing clothes, with the same options. You can mix and match them as you want, and the available options will automatically grow as I add more clothing.

The UI is still rough, so I'm waiting for your feedback!

Bug fixes & improvements

There should be less micro freezes during the game

Improved performance when shadows are enabled

You no longer need to press the 'Apply' button in the preset panel

Instead, changes are applied automatically, and there's a new 'Revert changes' button instead

Fix the audio volume not being saved

The character randomizer should give more varied results

Fix the strap on clipping through the body

Fix the missing colliders on the hideout fridge

Fix the behavior of the category buttons in the character editor

Thank you all so much for your patience!

Sorry this update took so long, if I knew I would have split it in two instead. The release schedule should return to normal next time!Game dev involves a lot of invisible work and it's not always easy to guess how hard or how long things will be. But that new hair system makes it a lot easier for me to add more content, so I'm waiting for your suggestions!I'll make another post in a few days to explain the next steps and gather your feedback!

In the meantime, go play the game! This update changes a lot of things internally so let me know if there are any issues!

Cheers!

Crimson Skullcracker Shadow

Only real issues noticed with the hair were a few: length on the ponytail is more limted than the old system (no short ponytails anymore, shortest I could get it now is just above the groin). Oddly, changing the secondary color also doesn't seem to change the tips (and create that nice gradient effect) like you show in the post? Not sure if it's because I'm playing the Linux version or not. Similar issue on the Front Hair settings, where changing length doesn't seem to shorten it (only using the Piecey type seemed to allow that). Using same character I started in version 5.1. Also seems to a Pattern in the Colors (both Primary and Secondary) with no toggle or slider; future option? Otherwise enjoying the tanlines and game, so far. Can't wait for more video opportunities in current areas! (Train Station and Canal, in particular have some possibilities, plus the main hub area (I know that area is likely in the future, just seemed odd the Train Station only had the gloryhole as an option, can def see the carry position "coming" in clutch here lol). Keep up the good work, def excited for more!

That's a bug, the shortest ponytail should be as short as the old one. I'm not sure what's causing it but it's probably some driver issue (well more like, the hair shader being interpreted differently on other hardware, I'm looking into it). Same for the front hair and the color, they should appear like in the post. Do you have an Nvidia card? or something else? And yes, more locations are coming!

Crimson Skullcracker Shadow

yeah, this rig is using an RTX 3080, if an AMD card would work better, I can test to it on pretty much any other rig I have (used to build and test PCs for awhile).

SlyProton

Okay thanks for the info! I'll push an update later today!

Crimson Skullcracker Shadow

and I'll let you know if I see the same issue on my 6800XT rig (all but 1 or two rigs are running Linux of some sort, so if STILL seeing that issue, will test and let you know about Windows build, too!)

SlyProton

The build was updated! 0.6.1 should fix the hair issues and the cop falling through the floor!

Crimson Skullcracker Shadow

I'll def check, confirm and test it out once I'm off work, then lol. If only Twitch had an 18+ category and didn't force all the lewd gamers to Fansly lol, I could demonstrate it live, even. Def a fun game, so far, and have enjoyed it far more than I anticipated (the customization options, overall feel and graphics have def been the highlights!)
