So, I've experienced a version of the copyright claim I've never encountered before. FOX has decided to completely block the video in pretty much all of North America and about 7 other countries instead of just taking the ad revenue (which isn't theirs to take, anyway, but that's part of the classic Content ID hatefest).

I am going to have to figure out a solution. I may have to severely gut this video in order to give you guys the pertinent information that explains Donnie Darko.

What a beautiful start to October. What a wonderful thing to happen to a video I spent hours crafting an animated diagram for.

I sincerely hope Amazon's plans for Twitch are to develop it into a legitimate YouTube competitor. I hope they make it an unstoppable monster and kick YouTube's ass so hard, Susan Wojcicki won't ever be able to sit right again.

I'll keep you all posted. I need to sleep now.

Lynn aka Vianna

I can watch it here in England and I would have guessed that would be similar copyright to America how strange

Christian Grobbelaar

Have you considered putting the "directors cut" on another video streaming service such as Vid.me or Vimeo?

Jay Pear

Seconding a vid.me upload.

Apprentice125

Damn content ID, hope you can get it sorted soon. Also, that Susan Wojcicki comment is amazing and I feel much more complete in my life having read it.

Andy Xiao

Seems YouTube never learns its lesson. I hope this gets resolved quickly.

morikamithewobblingwarlock

I can still watch it and I live in Australia. If anyone wants to watch it that lives in a region that has it blocked, there IS a solution (I hope you don't mind me sharing it NM), copy the youtube link of the video and paste it into clipconverter.cc, then you can D/L the video. I am doing that now in case it gets blocked here too

Film Renegado

I am so sorry you have to go through this Nick, may I recommend using stylistic borders around the copyrighted material and slightly altering the pitch of the footage audio? That usually does the trick for my reviews, I know you shouldn't need to do that because of fair use, but you know, youtube :/

AOL

Why dont you use vimeo?

Slarry

There are work-arounds. Jim Sterling discovered a way to subvert claims, but I don't know if it applies here. He uses several different known copyright infringements, where they're guaranteed to flag the video, and they cancel each other out. Might be worth a look. I'd recommend not gutting the video though. If nothing else, just upload to another site.

Seth Cadman

Please don't remove it ary the very least. I wanna see the full version after i get off work. Can't wait. ..

Supersoulrez

Fox is the reason we cant have nice things

Michael Gibelyou

Now I know it's October. My evil side is poking out and wanting to mass report anything posted by FOX via the YouTube Heroes program... I know it's a bad plan, but boy is it tempting...

mercuriallyCooperative

Yeeesh I'm sorry man. That's a really sucky thing to happen- YouTube content ID is a pain. Take yourself some rest, and stay determined. Things will turn out okay.

Terry Klopfenstein

Thanks to clipsconvert.cc I was able to watch it. Nick, this video completely falls into fair use, I do wish YouTube would get control of thier shit when it comes to content flagging and copyright. This video is probably one of my favourites of yours, I've loved Donnie Darko for a long time and you have given me a new perspective on it. Thank you for turning your Night Eye towards it. I really do hope everyone can see the video in its entirety. Good luck man. And keep up this amazing standard of work.

Sedric and Charlie

For what it's worth, here in the UK it was unmolested

Vinny Chiaramonte

Fox sucks. It's sad that companies like Fox and YouTube like to ruin everything because god forbid they share an ounce of revenue. What will corporate executives do!? For real, I'm sorry that happened, Nick. I hope it gets sorted out.

Jordan Victor

This is definitely fair use and recent court decisions say that you can even go after Fox for lost revenue for a false claim.

Sara

I have the video and would be happy to host it for everyone? VPN's are awesome :)

Razumi Yazura

Wow. That's a really big shame. Hopefully things can be resolved.

Tony Wong

I wonder how much it would cost to host one own's videos on a private server and then uploaded using a custom video playback player.

ShiningKami

Well, screw you too, FOX. I hope this can be resolved soon, Nick. This copyright bullcrap sucks.

Lynette Ai

Apparently good in Australia (if I could only call in sick to work...

Fairy Princess

You can totally dispute that on Fair Use.

Fairy Princess

Having watched it now, thank you Proxy, there is zero justification for a copyright strike. It's also an amazing analysis of DD.

Sara

have at it everyone roadtoavonlea.net/Donnie Darko- Unraveling the Secrets of Time Travel_3.mp4 patron's only please 1080P HD

Matthew Bott

I've got a way to see it and I am looking forward to watching it. It's this reason that I want to be donating as high as I do, to make sure your are compensated for the amazing work you do, even if the corporate machine wants to halt your progress!

Justin Desotell

I recommend that in the public version you release, you put a version you can download for the full version. Because I can't imagine a better review of Donnie Darko. This is just pure gold

Al Press

If you use the proxy website "UnblockYoutube" you can actually watch the full episode online. I just discovered that and the episode is great so far.

David Sharpe

Get some sleep bud, you'll need it. We are all behind you.
