Atari Lynx, I choose you! lol Have you ever heard of this Atari console? 👀 Released in 1989 as a rival to the Nintendo Game Boy, the Atari Lynx was much more advanced on paper, with impressive features for the time: a color screen, 16-bit graphics and very ambitious hardware. Despite that, it was not a big commercial success. Nintendo dominated the market with a cheaper, more compact console, much longer battery life and much more effective marketing (a second version was released in 1991!) In 1993, Atari gradually started moving away from the Lynx to focus on the Atari Jaguar. I love collecting unusual and less common computers and consoles, so I’m really happy to add this one to my collection :)

What an incredible addition to you collection, Eleonora😍 I never had the Lynx, but I was always intrigued by it. A handheld arcade system essentially 😍

It’s definitely not very common! It came out around the same time as the classic Game Boy, so I think Nintendo’s console ended up overshadowing Atari’s one quite a bit

Yes, i remember the launch, and my parents gave myle the choice between the Lynx, Game Gear or Gameboy, and I went with Gameboy. I now have a DMG with new shell and IPS screen in my collection and I absolutely love it ☺️ I modded it myself 😄

Nice .... Never seen one ... Hope it works, although you'll fix it if it doesn't. <3

Sayaka's Digital Attic

That’s honestly probably the choice most people ended up making back then and the original Game Boy had amazing games and battery life compared to the Lynx! (A DMG with an IPS screen is such a cool upgrade, especially if you modded it yourself )

Sayaka's Digital Attic

It’s in perfect condition! 🤗 Luckily it works for now, although I wouldn’t mind having an excuse to open it up and work on it a little 😆

It also has a type c-type rechargeable battery, so that's covered too 😁

Crack that puppy open and parley the internals. 😉🌹❤️

Yet ANOTHER thing I’ve NEVER heard of!! How do you DO it, Lady?? Can’t wait to learn more about it!

Pete Fitchett

I have heard of it but never seen on in real life only on TV/YouTube.

A great addition to your collection 🤩. I had one back in the day, bought shortly before I got my Game Boy. I remember a game where you had to control a surfer, and I really loved the fact that you could rotate the screen 180 degrees to reverse the controls 😎. I still have the Game Boy, but I gave the Lynx to a friend of mine. P.S. I’m Batman 😆

The Lynx is a great wee machine. Developed by RJ Mical and Dave Needle (of Amiga fame). I interviewed RJ some time ago and discussed the Lynx (amongst other things).

I don't remember that, maybe it didn't make it's way to New Zealand. We had the Atari 2600 game console, Atari 800XL computer then a Commodore Amiga 500.

Giorgio Sciani

Yes! It was 😃. It was in bundle with the console when I bought it; the games includes also skateboarding, if I remember correctly, was around 1995 when I gave it to a friend of mine ☺️

If you continue to add items to your collection, you will need a much bigger place!

yup, I have the model 2 also. Sadly it sits in a display case and firmly on my backlog of shame awaiting a new screen and some loving attention. Still, it's in good company with the game gear and it's broken screen also.

I always wanted an atari lynx when i was a teenager, but i could never afford one, similar thoughts to the SNK neo geo, the stuff of dreams only.. stuck in spectrum world forever, but that was still pretty good to ;) ha
