The next couple of days passed by in relative peace. He went over to see Selene and officially met her uncle, Arthur. The man was quite guarded when he met Julius, but ultimately he seemed like a pleasant man. He could see why Selene trusted him.

However, Julius also noticed how well life mana seemed to behave around Arthur. It was like seeing how Drasil interacted with life mana. Almost as if he were one with it. But he also got the feeling that Arthur didn’t just use life mana for healing. If anything, it felt a little overwhelming and oppressive compared to how life mana normally felt.

During these couple of days, Julius spent a lot of time with Lily. They had a lot of catching up to do, and they both enjoyed their time together immensely.

That being said, when he wasn’t with Lily, he started to work on his other stuff. For example, he was working on his skill evolution test. At first he had planned to use the spear as the construct he would keep active for a week, but realized that keeping a spear beside him was very annoying. For one, it was just big and cumbersome.

It wasn’t like a sword or a dagger he could sheathe away. Even if he strapped it to his back, he wasn’t able to carry it around with much ease. And it wasn’t like it could be placed inside his dimensional space either. Trust him, he tried for almost an hour.

So in the end he formed a small dagger and placed it inside a sheath he bought from a random store. The sheath itself was specially meant to hide mana from leaking out, so it was perfect for him. Or rather, it was close to perfect. A little bit of mana still trickled out of it, but as long as he kept an eye on it, he could eliminate that small leakage.

He was also still working on the list of constructs he would make, and he almost had a hundred. He still had around five days until he could complete the week-long requirement, so he wasn’t in too much of a hurry. But the requirement of him controlling a hundred constructs at once was still quite challenging. He had figured out the minimal amount of mana and optimal shape of the construct he needed to use, but the amount of mana was still the primary issue.

Even with his impressive mana control, it was still a high task to command so many constructs at once. He’d been playing around with a smaller number of them at nighttime, but hopefully he would be ready to go for it after several more days of preparation. With it using so much mana, he didn’t want to just keep on trying it and wasting mana. Even with the blanket helping with his regeneration of mana, it still wasn’t pleasant to wait and deal with the mana deprivation.

When he wasn’t doing this, he was brainstorming how he was going to use his Skill Combination Crystal. He already had several options for the skills he wanted to combine.

The first option was to combine [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin], [Spirit Fortification], and [Harmonic Balance]. [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] would provide a solid base for the skill, and the other two skills would add a much-needed bit of enforcement and stability to it.

He suspected that [Spirit Fortification] would allow him to add more mana, aura, and Authority to the body skill. While [Harmonic Balance] would make sure the excess energy didn’t go out of his control.

A second option was to combine [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] with [Field of the Shattered Will] and [Spirit Fortification]. Much like the previous option, [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] would be the base, and [Field of the Shattered Will] would add efficiency and more focus on kinetic energy. Kinetic energy was by far his most efficient and best tool for close combat. And [Spirit Fortification] should make sure that he is able to add as much kinetic energy as needed.

There were two more options that he found quite interesting. Both of them involved his void skills.

One of the possible combinations used [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] again, but would merge [Void Strike] along with either [Harmonic Balance] or [Spirit Fortification]. He didn’t know which one between these two, but he thought the offensive potential of this skill combination to be quite dangerous.

The last and one he was the most fascinated about, but also the most skeptical of, was a combination of [Void Strike], [Void Step], and [Spirit Fortification].

The way he was thinking about it, [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] was already ready to evolve, and considering it was a skill that he gained from a pinnacle-grade token, he had a good feeling that it would evolve into a very useful skill. It already had almost all the things he was looking for in a body enhancement skill. So while he wanted to combine it with other skills, he didn’t think it was strictly necessary.

However, it might be a good idea to get something different. His void skills were powerful, but perhaps having two of them was a waste. He was a little nervous about losing his movement skill, but with a pinnacle-grade Combination Crystal, he doubted it would offer him something that went against his direct wishes.

He also realized that he could just evolve [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] now and see what he got, and if he wasn’t happy with the results, then he could use the token on it. He doubted he would be able to evolve it into a higher-ranking skill, but he might as well see what happened.

Actually, the more he thought about it, the more he enjoyed that idea, and so that was what he was going to do. Screw waiting. He’d been waiting for so long that he was tired of it. He wanted a new legendary skill and wanted to see how different a superior epic skill was when it evolved.

He focused on the skill and released the subconscious hold he had over it. He’d been holding it back, but now for the first time, he was allowing it to advance on its own.

He was slightly taken aback by the surge released from the skill orb in his soul. The skill was erupting like a volcano, and he did his best to steer it in the proper direction, but that was it. He allowed it to continue pulsating outwards, and when it seemed to reach a precipice, it tipped over the edge.

[Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] has reached the threshold. Would you like to evolve the skill?

He accepted it and let the notifications flood in.

Requirements for Skill Evolution Test have been removed.

Proceeding with the evolution of [Pyrokinetic Embodiment of Ruin] (Epic+)… possible advancements: [Avatar of Ruin], [Tyrant of Destruction], [Shattered Vector Frame], and [Lord of the Dying Sun].

He went over the names with a wide grin. He didn’t really know what to expect from a superior epic skill, but he was glad to see that he didn’t have to go through any evolution tests. He was also happy to see that he was given a list of options. He hadn’t really been given options of skills to choose lately, and he’d missed it.

That being said, now came the hard part. What skill was he going to choose? He was given four options, and all four options appealed to him.

Like typical skill evolutions, the first option seemed to be the most direct upgrade. [Avatar of Ruin] seemed to stay with the ruin theme he had going on. He also suspected the skill had aspects of fire and kinetic energy woven into it. Thus, it was immediately one he was drawn to.

The only thing he wasn’t sure about was whether or not he wanted to continue down this ruinous path. He liked the power and utility of his ruinous aura, but it seemed like a lot of his skills and abilities revolved around it.

He had enjoyed the skill initially because it gave him a taste of ruinous aura, but he now had a dedicated skill in [Inexorable Aura of Ruin]. He wasn’t scared of losing the former skill now. Furthermore, it wasn’t like his ruinous aura was the best for pure close combat. There were certainly some nice benefits of it, but ultimately, nothing he couldn’t mimic with his aura control.

The other skill, [Tyrant of Destruction], was one he wasn’t really drawn to. It sounded strong, but he wasn’t really heading in the direction of destruction. If he wanted to, then he’d rather stick with ruin, but maybe he was underestimating the skill.

The third skill was more along the lines of what he mentioned previously. [Shattered Vector Frame] sounded unique, and it was a skill that had clearly evolved towards a more kinetic-focused path. However, the name, or specifically the “shattered” part, was what truly piqued his curiosity.

Cain’s title was the Lord of the Shattered Throne, and Julius was almost certain that the skill was named this way because of him. That being said, it was also a good indicator that the skill was quite powerful. Cain was a monster through and through. Everyone who knew of the man said as much.

Yet for all of the impressive list of options, the final one was what made his heart race.

[Lord of the Dying Sun]

He didn’t know why, but this skill in particular seemed to jump out to him. He could practically feel it reaching through the notification window and wrapping its arms around him. Just looking at the name made his skin crawl and thrum with energy.

He maintained his calm, though, and did his best to be rational.

First off, the “lord” part of the skill screamed high level. He knew that only those who were Tier 6 gained the privilege of attaining a Lord title. Hence, seeing the name presented in one of his skills had to be a good sign.

The last part was confusing, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized just how strong the skill sounded. A dying sun was essentially just a star on the verge of a supernova. He couldn’t imagine anything with more force and destruction than that.

That was why he had a feeling that his kinetic energy would be present as well as his ruinous aura. The sun part basically ensured that his fire mana would be a prominent part of it.

Another important thing to note was the resemblance to his experience inside the Solstice Realm at the Burning Sun Sect. The feeling he got from the possible skill was similar to what he felt from that core. It was as if the core had been a dying star. Somehow both intensely fierce and restrained at the same time.

He also couldn’t help but notice the connection to his family’s bloodline. As far as he knew, he didn’t have House Hyperius’s inherited bloodline or talent for the Sun Affinity. But perhaps it was slightly influenced by it? Or maybe it was just a coincidence.

He was tempted to select it immediately, but held off and instead told himself to at least sleep on it. He could decide later when he thought about it some more. However, he couldn’t keep the grin off his face. He had finally evolved the skill, and all of the options sounded really good. He didn’t think he was going to need to use the Skill Combination Crystal on it. Rather, he could use it on another skill.

And he couldn't help but be excited about what other possibilities there were out there.

Tftc ty for the chapter

Blackking👑

Hope he goes for the last one cuz of his uncle

Jared

No I need to know what the skill does

Raymond Mouton

Thanks for the chapter. My vote is for “Lord of the Dying Sun.” I would love to get a batch of chapters with this release, but will remain patient, if I must.

Derek Walker

Always thought he would be combining his aura skill, spirit fortification, and his construct skill into one legendary+ construct skill, but the a general void skill would also be really interesting

Pugdush

This is a brutal tease of a chapter. Hes definitely going to pick that skill. Why torture us with this wait!?

Blackking👑

Ya same I want to see him pick it and maybe fuse his skill

TheBrightOne

He is definitely picking, Lord of the Dying Sun, and man that name sounds cool as f*ck! Love that it's linked to his bloodline as well! Almost forgot he wasn't actually a commoner, and that he actually has a noble bloodline (even though it isn't active) like Lily.

TJ O'Hare

Damnit, now I gotta wait another day! TFTC!

Diego Rodriguez

The chapter was amazing. I really hope he chooses Lord of the Dying Sun. It sounds like an interesting skill and it would be a great way to remember his uncle

Mega Ampharos

He better pick the last one lmao or the first

KevB

So is that a sneak peak at Julius' future title?

Andi Scherndl

We need another chapter, please! 🥺 spoil us!!

Earth Grumble

I am being toyed with…just sleep on it…sigh, I guess I need to get groceries for the week.

Payne Gregory

TFTC! Lord of the Dying Sun! Curious to see where the if he then merges Void Step, Void Strike, and Spirit fortification, which seems likely, where that goes.

Desmond Willey-peck

It would be crazy if he awoke his bloodline or something!

Jolu

Tftc! Great to see the options and the last one connecting posible with relation to his uncle my only concern is what will happen after he chose one, last time his aura changed to something agresive wonder if we are in for another crazy thing

test

Let's gooo

Jolu

Talking about his fuse skills: Why does Julius think he can only fuse three? There shouldn't be a limit when fusing skills, aside from the general limit on the total number of skills one can possess. So why doesnt he also add [Harmonic Balance] to [Void Strike], [Void Step], and [Spirit Fortification] combination? It may make it more stable and less exploding in the face.

Tom

I’m guessing he was able to get a lord titled skill because he already has a feat, but man I would not want to be the next person to come in conflict with him. Celestine is headed into a rude awakening when they inevitably but heads

Michael M

I wonder if a lord skill is a prerequisite for a domain. Or maybe it is the source of the domain

Brisingaer

Hmmmmmm. The Void skills being twisted into some kind of buff or chaotic spatial manipulation is cool.

Daniel B

sure hope he doesn't accidentally nova in the middle of a city.

Azulmar

Its funny that in a normal book its very sensible to not rush a decision but in a web novel sleeping on it becomes a nasty cliffhanger 😝

Dustin Thomas

I really hope he chooses Lord of the Dying Sun, and combines his void, harmonic, spirit and his field of shattered will together then almost all of his skills would be legendary

Memoryofgold

Lord of the Dying Sun seems pretty cool thematically, especially with his phoenix rebirth thing going on, the life and death of stars, collapsing into black holes (the void), supernovas etc. etc.

LogDog

Oh yeah, I'd pick that skill and die with that sun any day

J0hn_D03

Ha Julius has more restraint than me, would have picked Lord of the Dying Sun immediately if I had that option

atome 4 000

Dying Sun may also mean he become stronger the closer to death he is, and I'm all for it. As for the combination, I 've gone to chapter 719, the last full status we got, and I think fusioning [Spirit Fortification] and [Harmonic Balance], wich are 'just' doing 2 aspects of the same thing : make things work together, is a good idea, to wich I would either had [Void Strike] or [Field of the Shatered Will].

Mist Min

I might be wrong or right but I think he was told combining too many skills together when it comes to higher rarity might led to something he doesn't want

The Arcane Emperor

Why should he fight with Cassandra ? He is on good terms with her and her sect.

Tom

Sorry I ment the lady that kidnapped him, I think her name starts with a C?

McMan12345

What do you all want to bet picking a 'Lord' skill in E4 is gonna do something special

Ben

I can't wait to see what Lord of the Dying Sun does! Also can't wait for Julius to be finishing his legendary task for constructs, and when Lily asks he says "oh nothing special, just finishing my legendary task for my 4th legendary skill" 😀

Ben

Celestine

Kris Piskorski

I hope he awakens his bloodline through this and also i hope for a combination of the void skills to get a better one

Arrogant Savant

It might even somewhat awaken as a side benefit too, we haven't really seen talk of it but the noble families still tend to follow similar paths to their bloodline without awakening it so it's possible.

Oskar

PLEASE

matthias braem

Maybe it lvl's his feat again...( I really hope I typed that correctly😅)

matthias braem

Brooooo!😲 Become a Lord or an Avatar... But we all now he already dicided 😝

Tommy Littlefield

And next upgrade is already easy to see to fully embody his Phoenix concept the dying sun can become the rebirthed or undying sun of something

Story Junkie

Give me more!!!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

NoctisMi

True, totally missed the part that dieing and collapsing can be connected to those concepts

Fdrugc

Tftc the last one sounds really good but maybe it's to strong for him?

Josh Beckman

Can’t wait for more, skill selections are so fun

McMan12345

tbh i'm kinda thinking it'll knock him out and he won't wake up till he's T5. we've only ever really seen him jump one tier and he's already got the soul evolution.

Khaqan Iqbal

I wish you’d released all the chapters for the week on one day, this is like eating food a crumb at a time

Voral

I still think a very useful combination would be the Phoenix Mark + Julius's Armament skill, based in the performance of both it could allow things like: Self-guided long range attacks by connecting a mark with the constructs, allowed the constructs to track enemies by itselves. Being able to strengthen and modify a construct even after launching it far away by placing a mark on it, like how Julius was able to send his life mana through the mark to an opponent locked in another space. Being able to place marks from afar through launching a marked construct at the opponent specifically made to pass the mark to what it touches rather than needing to get close. Also potentially due to the token being of very high quality it could even increase Julius level of control on all of his marked construct by allowing Julius to use skills like his perception skill through the mark, it would practically be a weaker second layer of Julius's senses applied to any marked constructs increasing his control or even marked opponent, solving many of Julius issues against opponents that use stealth so long as he can hit them just once. Despite all of this I still approve Julius going for a different route though, because this combination (excluding using the perception skill through the mark) completely feels like something Julius could achieve all by himself without any token. TFTC!

Ryan

I am hoping he takes the skill and we get the awakening of his bloodline, what does Julius need? More power!

i hate cliffhangers

Whole chapter is lot of talk and nothing. This was said in trump voice.

Caudyr

Yeah, I remember something along those lines being mentioned as well...that you need to be careful of what skills you choose (and how many) so that you don't screw up the 'aim' of the combination. Last thing you want, for example, is to be going for a body enhancement skill but instead get something like a mana bolt because you combined too many skills and it threw off the trajectory of the combined skill, heh.

Caudyr

Can the Sun affinity even be tested with that crystal that was used to test his affinity? I don't recall if it was ever mentioned, though I do know that his family tended to have Light affinity as well I think it was, and he didn't have that in the 'top' affinities at least. I went back and looked at the affinity test chapter, and it said the Sun affinity was a combination of Fire and Light...and these were his results to his test (remember that Space mana doesn't show up, for whatever reason): -- Lukas inspected the cube, and once he interpreted it, he spoke. “It seems like you have a high affinity to fire, life, and kinetic. You also have a medium affinity to water and air. As well as a low affinity for light.” -- So...yeah, he could totally still pick up the Sun affinity, and from the sounds of him HAVING both the Fire and Light affinities (even though Light is low...he can still increase that if necessary, I'm sure, lol...not sure how easy it is to make use of 'new' affinities at this point, though), it's entirely possible that he is actually capable of awakening his Bloodline, at the very least. Honestly, I think he should be asking Lily and co about the process through which they awaken their existing bloodline, since he should try and do that himself.

Caudyr

It also might be able to let him tap into the Sun affinity itself to an extent, since he DOES have an affinity for Light mana, even if it's Low. Given how drawn he was to it, the obvious connections to his family's bloodline and his uncle in general, and just how badass it sounds compared to the other skill options though...I just can't really see him going with a different skill, personally.

Caudyr

I can't see that happening, he's way too far from T5 at the moment, after all. As far as we know, he's barely made any progress with his Authority and pushing it towards a Domain, or whatever the T5 equivalent is. It's entirely possible that he's closer than we know, but I still can't really see it knocking him out until T5, because it just seems so far away atm, even if he has some things that wouldn't normally come into play until he IS T5 (the soul evolution, feats, multiple Legendary skills, etc.). Even with all of that, he's still missing the absolutely key component towards advancement, and that's his Authority's progress.

Call0013

I don’t think he should be combining any Superior skills until he has evolved them. As for skills to combine the combo that sticks out to me is Harmonic Balance+Spirit Fortification.

Caudyr

It shouldn't be, as Lord titles normally don't come into play until T6 I believe? It might help fulfill those conditions for it, though. IIRC the source of the domain comes from your authority, which is why it's necessary to advance and build it up.

Caudyr

*insert Emperor Palpatine meme here* UN LIMITED POWAAAAAAAH!!! XD

Caudyr

Pretty sure he almost immediately wrote off the first one, though? The only one I could potentially see him taking other than the last one is the Shattered one...but I just can't really see him taking anything other than Lord of the Dying Sun because of how drawn to it he was, plus all the obvious connections it has to him, his family, and his path in general.

Darion

Lord of the dying sun is such a tough name. He gotta pick it

Call0013

I think he should finish evolving Armaments of the Arcane, and do a full assessment of his current Skills like he did with Armaments of the Arcane. To see what skills he can get to level 30 and evolve before using the skill combination crystal. He should also get used to his new soul evolution and Lord of the Dying Sun (and other potential new Legendary skills that he will evolve in the near future) before combining skills using the Crystal.(He could also see if he could achieve any skill synergies before using the crystal). Edit:He needs to at the very least get Inexorable Aura of Ruin to level 30 and evolve it to Legendary (Maybe also Spirit Fortification). If he is not rushing Field of the Shattered Will,Void Step and Void Strike at are superior epic skills in the early level 20s they get could to level 30 and evolve.(Honestly I want him go get all epic skills to level 30 including Phoenix’s Mark and Harmonic Balance before using the crystal. Maybe even check the skills he has got pending to see if any of them have changed and are worth taking and level up and evolving to synergies or be combined with his skills).

matthias braem

I don't think he's ready for that...

Chance Wells

I think another unique aspect we might get is what dying means for a star. Dying for a star simply means fusion is slowing down. This has the side affect of collapsing with smaller stars, but expanding into giants with ones the size of ours early on. Another interesting thing he might get later on is a concept related to Iron. An iron star skill has interesting implications.

Salientmind

I have long thought that ruin didn't really fit him, and hoped his skills would move more in a celestial/sun direction. The combo of chaotic space, fire, life and his lesser affinities he doesn't use scream sun. I think it was wind, light and either water or earth. This is a far out idea, but what if the conclave is somewhat responsible for Julius's birth. His mother is still a bit mystery. His father was an unreliable information source who claimed she was a commoner, but we know he frequented the Grayson Brothels, and that they were involved with the conclave. Lord of the dying sun, makes me wonder if they were trying to combine bloodlines from his family with the burning sun sect somehow. That or it could just be that he's the last true heir of his uncle from his pov, since the rest are traitors.

Salientmind

I think it may be a requirement for evolution to Tier 6. I think he may get a feat or something for get it in Tier 4. It also might cause him some soul problems

TJ O'Hare

I also wonder if the skill RANK is somehow noticable to other Tier 5 & 6's. People's nicknames are based on their skills (??), like Cain for instance. Would Julius be referenced as 'Lord Julius' going forward?

Caudyr

To respond to the affinity thing...I responded on a comment about that below, but I'll repost the quote from an earlier chapter. ^^ -- Lukas inspected the cube, and once he interpreted it, he spoke. “It seems like you have a high affinity to fire, life, and kinetic. You also have a medium affinity to water and air. As well as a low affinity for light.” -- Personally, I'm gonna wager a guess that the Water affinity might come from his mother, though who knows how many within the family might have it as well. Either way, everything is starting to inch towards him embodying some aspect of the sun, imo. We'll see, though~
