Beastheart and Monstrous Companions Now Available! (Patreon)

Hey Patrons,

James Introcaso here to let you know that Beastheart and Monstrous Companions is now available on the MCDM Shop, Roll20, and Fantasy Grounds for $15!

Who doesn’t want an owlbear best friend? Beastheart and Monstrous Companions provides rules for adding wild creatures to your fifth edition adventuring party. In battle, your companion builds ferocity, a new resource they can spend to use special actions like Earthshaker, Slime Shower, and Owlie Oop. But beware! If your companion builds up too much ferocity, they can enter a rampage and might just attack you instead. Fifteen companions are included in the product:

Bulette

Deinonychus

Dragon Wyrmling

Earth Elemental

Gelatinous Cube

Giant Spider

Giant Toad

Giant Weasel

Hell Hound

Mimic

Owlbear

Sporeling

Worg

The supplement also includes the Beastheart, a brand-new class that uses the companion rules to create an adventurer with a wild partner. The Beastheart is presented with five new subclasses: Ferocious Bond, Hunter Bond, Infernal Bond, Primordial Bond, and Protector Bond.

The product wraps up with eight new magic items made for companions and their caregivers, and an original piece of fiction from Matt Colville, “The First Meeting.”

There is no Displacer Beast either. And you know why ? Because MCDM doesn't have the rights to use Blink Dogs and Displacer Beasts. (I have not check for blink dogs, but it is the case for displacer beasts.) And there might be other reasons.

Could be that they're planning for their own versions of those in the upcoming monster book. We know there's a "Not-Displacer Beast" and the "Not-Tarrasque" in there, for instance. That would include monstrous companion versions of those too, I'd wager (maybe not the "Not-Tarrasque" though!).

In the stream Matt brought this up to Jason. They seem to be thinking about doing mini designs where they would be selling the STL files (somewhere in the future). But Jason mentioned that they are not planning on selling STL files for minis that can be bought in the Kickstarter and/or the website but rather done specifically for that purpose (something also to do with exact detailing of the mini sculpts etc)

I love how your class design seems to follow an idea my brother and I frequently discuss on how we would change existing classes. The class itself is relatively simple as far as the ideas it operates around, and the subclasses are a major decision. I love when the subclass you choose can dramatically change how a class plays.

Do we know when exactly the minis will restock? It would be nice for Patrons to be able to get an advanced notice so we can snatch them up if we missed them the first time. Or maybe even just buying STLs instead of waiting for the printer to restock.
