None of these were bourbons. We had one Scotch (the Johnney Walker, mash bill 100% malted barley called Scotch because its from Scotland), a Single Malt from Japan (Yamazaki 12, mash bill 100% malted barley), and a blended Japanese Whiskey (Nikka - From the Barrel, Blended malt and grain mash bill from over 100 different batches). Bourbons have to be at least 51% corn in their mashbill, must be produced in the USA, and be aged in new charred oak vessels, along with various other stipulations about proofing percentages and aging statements.

Bonus fact: Japanese whiskeys tend to be very similar to Scotch -- it's where Japan sent their master distillers to learn the craft, and the climate is surprisingly similar. Also, Scotch is a crazy wide range of flavor profiles. An Islay might smell like a campfire, and a Speyside may give off honey or orange peel. Fun stuff.

I am so glad that my question about scotch led down this path of forcing you all to try them and suffer... I will say love you guys but your reactions to WHISKEY BTW PHIN are insane... lowkey some bitches.. its all love though... also Phin Nika and Suntory are nice picks I usually go for the Hibiki. Also I was more so talking about actual scotch which if they hated whisky they will think scotch is horrific. some of my favs are like a good 18 year Glenfiddich or 18 year Glenlivet. You should give them a try Phin.

I am the same as Phin, love whisky, hate tequilla. Good whiskey is so nice. Funny they say it smells like a fireplace. They should try an actual smokey one, some Talisker or something. I personally don't like smokey once either. Jameson (cheap Irish whiskey) is imo one of the easiest to drink, very mild, try that if you find in in the US.
