Older Release - This datapack expands on the free version with tons of extra species and features. Compatible with Minecraft Java Edition versions 1.21.5 up and until 1.21.10. Buying this post will reveal the attached datapack files :)

This update introduces Brown Mushrooms and Fairy Rings! Did you know fairy rings are a real thing? :D

In real life nature, they're a visible ring of mushrooms caused by an underground, circular network of fungal mycelium. Well, now they're in the datapack! When spruce wood decays, it has a chance to create an underground network of fungi that ultimately reveals itself as a ring of brown mushrooms on the surface.

Additionally, there used to exist a bug such that if there where a lot of dynamic life entities, tile drops would stop working in survival. This has been fixed.

FYI: As on every update, every member's fox has had their name updated ;)

And of course, this version also includes all features from the previous updates!

✨New version 7 Features & Updates:

Brown Mushrooms & Fairy Rings

Can appear when spruce logs decay

Form an underground circular fungal network

Appear on the surface as a distinct ring of brown mushrooms

Bugfixes

Fixed a bug where tile drops would stop working with many dynamic life entities

Balancing

Other Extra Features beyond the free version:

Birch biome

Follows a natural maturity cycle

Continuously competes with Spruce biomes

Birch trees only grow in plains biome, under y-level 90

Plantable by dropping an amethyst shard on a planted birch sapling

Forest Fires

No risk to player builds! Only affects natural spread

Triggered when lightning strikes dryish wood

Quaking Aspen biome

Forms dense, slow spreading clonal colonies

Has a resilience to forest fires, regenerating almost instantly from its roots

Is shade sensitive, doesn't do well in the neighborhood of conifer and poplar trees

Birch seed can mutate into Aspen seed when struck by lightning

Poplar biome (Italian/Lombardy Poplar)

Can grow very tall

Poplar trees naturally grow along riverbeds

Keeps shade intolerant species away (such as birch trees)

Plantable by dropping an amethyst shard on bamboo

Fallen Logs & Stumps

Spruce trees now have a chance to fall over at the end of their life cycle

Leaves behind a stump and a fallen log

Fungi & Fox Poo

Water Lilies

Has a chance to flower

Grows in shallow waters

Plantable by dropping an amethyst shard on a lilypad

Cattails & Dripleaf

Coexist peacefully in shallow water near shorelines

Plantable by throwing an amethyst shard on a green stained glass pane in water (running out of ideas here lol)

Tall Ferns

Thrive in shaded areas

Plantable by dropping an amethyst shard on a tall fern

Grassfields can grow patches of Tall Grass

Trees drop wood when chopped

Amount varies based on tree age & size

Bark Beetles

Can appear in dead spruce trees

Spread to nearby spruce trees once their numbers grow

Large infestations can affect whole sections of spruce forests, leaving trees infertile

Their presence is shown by stripped bark on trunks

Help create more biodiversity and balance across biomes

Installation

Download the zip file (attached at the end of this post)

Drag it into your world’s datapacks folder.

Still not working?

Make sure the datapack is enabled using the "/datapack enable ..." command

Command Options:

Automatically start dynamic life throughout your world

"/trigger doCowPoo set 1" will enable grass seed dispersal from cows.

Overtime the grass biomes will go through multiple succession cycles, creating more complex biomes in the process. Keep in mind that it can take some time before a biome reaches maturity.

"/trigger doCowPoo set 0" will disable it again to the default.

Set a larger update radius

"/trigger doLargeUpdateRadius set 1" will increase the simulation radius to 200 blocks.

This has a big impact on performance, only do this if you're using a high-end machine.

"/trigger doLargeUpdateRadius set 0" will set the radius again to the default of 130 blocks.

Set your own custom update speed! 🔧

For example "/trigger delay set 200" will have the datapack update once every 200 ticks, this can be set to any positive number.

Default Update Speed🌿: Optimized for minimal lag, ideal for most players.

Plants will update every 200 ticks.

Performance friendly.

Plants will update at a more realistic pace.

(Maintains the default tick rate)

Max Update Speed⚡: Plants will update at an extremely fast pace.

Set the update speed to the maximum by executing the "/trigger delay set 1" command.

Fun to watch.

Comes at the cost of high tick usage .

(will probably slow down the default tick rate)

hello here as every update ? or just mushroom

DynamicLife

Hi! This is the latest version that includes all features from all previous versions :D So there’s no need to buy multiple posts

Alex Anderson

I am finding a hard time finding an answer here, but does this datapack affecet worldgen or default biomes at all? I am noticing the forests are all vanilla

DynamicLife

I'm sorry to hear that, maybe I should add a FAQ post in the future :) It doesn't affect the default worldgen in any way. It only affects the dynamic species that need to be (initially) created manually. Though, since the latest version there's also a command to have dynamic life start automatically in plains biomes. But in any case the datapack is not active on world generation, this also means that you can install the datapack in your older world saves as well ;)

Hi im just wondering, how far can the trees spread, i've been wanting to build a river that divides biomes like one side birch other side poplar but i cant seem to find it anywhere

DynamicLife

It depends on the species. Every tick birch seed can travel at most 18 blocks to any land spot, for spruce seed it is just 6 blocks. But keep in mind that seeds can spread for multiple ticks. Something else that might be of interest to you is that birches cannot germinate near spruce trees. So if you already have a spruce forest on one side of the river, and the river is at least 6 blocks wide, I reckon you could keep the birch and spruce forests separated :)
