It's so awesome how you post these breakdowns the day your track comes out too. I love your "Whenever you duplicate - make some kind of change" rule, I'll be applying that one in the future for sure. Something I've noticed in your breakdowns: you have a small transient on your drum rack with the kick for the snare hits - that's for your sidechaining right?

Thanks! You’re exactly right, and the only reason I do that is because my sidechain of choice (chain shaper) doesn’t do well with drums that have longer decays, sometimes it will retrigger. So I just use a transient to make sure that doesn’t happen

Ok word. If I'm not mistaken that transient is still in your mix though, is it just not big enough to cause any issues?

Yeah, you can set chainshaper to pre fx and then mute the transient, but imo its such a tiny click at -12db that its irrelevant to the mix

Great breakdown! Do you have any recommendations on stock/free distortion options for those who don't own Rift to achieve a similar sound you have in the main drop bass?
