I really like the idea of an ex girlfriend rescuing you from a party. There's so much to dive into; the complicated relationship, how things ended. Maybe the guy is it out drinking at a party because he's trying to forget. Maybe one of them made a stupid mistake that left things unsaid. You're just really good with nuance, although I agree with AG that you'd knock either out if the park.
