It was released by Netflix on September 17, 2021. The series was broadcasted globally on Netflix on September 17, 2021. The series depicts a competition in which 456 players participate, all of whom are in huge debt. Players play some children's games and are killed if they lose the games and do not win the prize of 45.6 million won. According to Hwang, it is based on his own experience and also shows the shortcomings of the economic structure in South Korea. Although he created the story in the year 2008, he could not find anyone who wanted to buy his story. Finally in 2019, Netflix accepted the story with its aim to promote international entertainment. All episodes are written by Hwang himself.
