On the sub vs dub thing, I prefer dub most of the time for EiS, but the sub really hits so perfectly at moments. The "I am atomic" delivery in sub is often considered to a top anime sound for good reason. I'm so glad I got to see this reaction. It's what I was looking forward to as soon as I saw y'all were starting to react to the series.

Yessssss!!! So glad we got this reaction today! Such an amazing scene and I'll admit at this point that yeah the sub does hit way harder with the effect on his voice. Just one big thing to note, Shadow didn't actually kill ANYONE in the city aside from Zenon with that blast. It was easy to miss it beforehand but during the fight with the giant monster that Alpha finally turned back into the girl, the soldiers were yelling about how they were evacuating the city and that all the districts had been emptied of people by now. So all he actually did was take out empty buildings.

And carved a gigantic hole in their sewer systems and upper areas that now needs to be fixed... y'know, a lot of costly repairs, not counting housing... just want to mention that bit... that's a LOT of money to fix that damage he still did. Everyone may have lived, but damn if that's not costing them a pretty penny.

Yeah, Cid wants to be perceived as a nobody unassuming NPC when acting as a civilian, but with a cape he wants to be seen as a mysterious powerhouse who appears out of nowhere and acts on motives unknown to both good and bad guys (and in practice, to himself as well lol)

The dub is really good, but a gripe I have with it is that civilian Cid and Shadow have pretty much the same cadence, it would be cooler if he exagerated his voice a bit more to have more contrast

That's fair. Can't say I notice subtleties like cadence. One aspect I really like about the dub personally is that some of the corny dialogue sounds so much more corny, which really suits the anime. Should be noted I watched the series in sub the first time since I watched it as it was airing. I like both versions.

By the way, Shadow didn't kill anyone except the "Future Rounds" guy. Earlier in the episode, they said they evacuated all the civilians except for the knights trying to fight off the monster girl. Also, the only reason Alexia survived being that close was that magical barrier Shadow put up beforehand. I can't remember if they clarified this, but the swordsmanship in this world is seriously lacking in refinement, as everyone focuses mainly on their magical power to enhance their attacks rather than put any training into technique. That's why being "ordinary" (aka super efficient with your attacks to not have any wasted movement/energy) is considered an insult, even though we can see just from Shadow swordfighting Zenon just how outclassed Zenon truly is. Shadow's technique is at the apex of anything this world has probably seen (especially because Shadow learned all sorts of martial arts from his past life).

Cid nuked the cities entire district, Alpha vaporized the monster girl, and the world moves on. Honestly I'd be kind of afraid to live in that city.

Clarification on your pre watch discussion about Alexia getting upset when Cid said he likes her fencing: Due to her inferiority complex when it comes to her sister, Cid saying he likes her fencing was perceived by her as patronizing rather than endearing, especially since she sees her style as being weak. Him saying he likes it comes off very condescending when taking her feelings about her fencing style (combined with her lamenting her own weakness) into consideration. It seems weird at face value, but when considering her internal character struggles it makes sense. As you see by the end, she rediscovers her love for her fencing style again due to Shadow showing her that her style can be strong & beautiful, and thus sees Cid's earlier comment about her fencing as a flattering remark now. Hence her suddenly seeing him in a new light and wanting to continue their "fake" relationship. Especially since he's the only one besides the sister she loves to ever say anything positive about her style. As other commenter's have said, the city was evacuated earlier in the episode (due to the monster that was loose) so nobody died during his 'I AM ATOMIC'. Yes, that moment is GODLY EPIC. I watched your reaction to it more than 10 times 😂 One thing I will say about this anime... as you said in the beginning, it seems like such a goofy show but the world actually has an interesty story and lore to it when it's not focused on the MC. And that story only gets more interesting as the series continues. So it finds an amazing balance between comedy and intriguing story. 🤌🏾

“I am atomic” was such a waste for the dub. The EN-VA’s are all wonderful but when they didn’t do anything special for this line in the dub, I dropped the dub watch. Such a missed opportunity.

In my opinion, the Dub delivery of 'Atomic' isn't even close to the Sub even ignoring the lack of an effect on it, as I think most of what makes it for the Sub 'Atomic' is the breathy whisper the VA delivers it in, where with the Dub he basically just says it as if he's speaking normally.

At 12:45 when you asked if Alpha just left the girl on the ground, yes she did. The girl was dead. Alpha had to kill her because of the experiments and injection she got that made her a monster. She couldn't be saved.

This specific episode is best in sub because of 'the line.' But the dub team gets their act together for the future instances of Cid going nuke happy.
