Billy was actually kind of bad at the Headgum podcast because he would just call the absurdity of Geoff’s behavior in this meta way instead of just going with it like … be better at improv idk he is funny in other pods tho! Just not for the weird cocktail that is the Headgum podcast. My theory is that he doesn’t know how to play … not alpha so he’ll just halt everything when Geoff is being fake funny aggressive

i disagree. it's incredibly funny for one rarely-featured guest's bit to be that he calls out the unacknowledged central conceit of the podcast because it ends up reinforcing the absurdity of the show itself. that time when billy just verbatim read out the request geoff sent for messages for the show's anniversary episode is one of my favorite bits of the entire podcast

I get where you're coming from but the best Headgum podcast guest is objectively Johnny. He's the only guest who consistently brought his own bits to try to add to the experience. Every other guest including Billy literally just plays "incredulous straight man". Except for Miles, he's probably tied for first tbh.

Yeah imo Billy is the funniest/best foil to Geoff, which I prefer to silliness added on to Geoff’s silliness. I never understood the Billy hate, but opinion respected (I also started listening during the Billy era so I might be biased)

Soccer is absolutely not a rich sport. It’s wacky if the States actually sees it that way. You need a ball and 2 sticks and you’re good to go. Basketball you actually NEED a hoop (and probably somewhere flat to dribble) which is harder to make from scratch.
