Football fans Thomas Middleditch and Humphrey Ker are in the studio teaching us about EPL past, present... and future! We discuss giant killers, small clubs, and the greatest game Liverpool ever won. We also start eliminating teams from rooting contention.

Thanks for all the comments so far -- keep the suggestions coming.

If you have access to it, BBC shows like Match of the Day and Football Focus would be good for introducing to all the Premier League teams. Football Focus preview the weekend's games and Match of the Day show highlights of all the games of the weekend. I'm sure there's a US equivilent show to Match of the Day, but its worth checking out. Five minute highlight reels of the all the games with analysis from some great former EPL players. Could be a good way to discover what players and teams you like the look of.

Have Humphrey on every week if you can trick him into doing so. Very knowledgeable and funny. You might want to consider releasing this one for free to convince more people to patronise you

Tarren

I can't believe you got someone who has been on countdown

Parshva Mehta

Middleditch and Ker are unbeatable. Super funny episode!

Jon Silva

Best guests so far by far. Also you can just say club or team instead of squad. Finding a squad sounds just slightly off like saying finding a roster.

Eli Horn

Love the pod!! I gotta start watching the EPL tho

What’s with the comment about jake being in New York? Jake are you moving back?

Henry Kates

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder than I did at Thomas’s Jersey Kurd character

Oop

Jake, check out Ruben Loftus-Cheek for Chelsea. I think he’ll be a good convincing argument

Oliver Higham

Jake I think you are an Arsenal or Chelsea man. Arsenal are known for having hot players, check out Hector Bellerin on Instagram he's a sexy Spaniard.

Oliver Higham

Amir, I reckon you are a Manchester United lad. They are the Lakers and have fell from grace over the past few years but they have just gotten a new manager who understands the players and are on the cusp a huge comeback to a Top 4 position this season and likely a title race next season.

BEST. EPISODE. EVER! Having Humphrey every show is a must!! Show name - “Humphrey’s Hooligans”

Joe record

You guys should definitely check out match of the day if you can get it. You’ll get a taste of every team and see some none nbc analysis.

Rikard Ström

Best episode yet! Thomas was amazing as always and Humphrey was really funny and knowledgeable! I want to hear more from him honestly. Also please don't support Arsenal... I don't think I'll be able to like you as much if you're Arsenal fans

2026-09-26 20:00 Jake & Amir, you boys would love Championship side Millwall, the most passionate team in England. ‘The Biggest Small Club in the World’ has notorious fans and is built on hard working values. I work for The Lions, maybe we could arrange a visit for you guys to come down The Den!

Humphrey was a delight, very knowledgeable and funny. Amir, you look like a chipmunk. Choose Arsenal.

I know you guys have joked about Bonermouth a lot but I think they should be in with a shout to be your team of choice! They're an amazing underdog story, having fought their way up from the bottom of league 2 (the fourth rung of football) to a solid premier league team. Here is their 'ten year challenge' post https://twitter.com/afcbournemouth/status/1085544201184522242 They also have an amazing comeback story in the shape of their star striker Callum Wilson, who has had TWO career ending injuries and overcome the odds to even still be playing, and is in the form of his life, even getting a call up to play for England - he's the next big thing ALSO they are a team that win sometimes and lose sometimes, so not going to be really boring but also not depressing. (Also if you end up reading this, Amir can you call my brother Hayden a bitchly?)

I can't believe you've started this podcast the season after my team Stoke City got relegated last season. Why not do a podcast on the championship? Although that probably won't attract many listeners

~ IN DEFENSE OF MLS ~ I've been an avid MLS fan for several years, and find it can be more entertaining than the Premier League, even if the quality of play isn't as high. As Amir and Thomas noted, there are many teams in MLS that have supporters' cultures that are comparable to, and sometimes surpass, those in England. Atlanta United, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders, and Sporting Kansas City set the example of great fanbases around the league. As for the argument that MLS is a league where great players (i.e. Zlatan, Donovan) go to die: Donovan actually played his best years at the LA Galaxy, he just ALSO continued to play there past his prime. And although some aging stars still come overseas for the paychecks and American culture, the tide is changing in a big way. Teams are beginning to sign younger stars, and truly great players that could easily hack it in Europe, such as Sebastian Giovinco and Josef Martinez, are making MLS their league of choice. Finally, as to Jake's comment about wanting to support an "authentic" team with rich history - totally get that. However, many teams in MLS have history of their own that predates the league (for example, the Portland Timbers, my team, were founded in 1975 and played in many leagues before MLS was founded in 1996). But even the newer teams like Atlanta United and LAFC are crafting history of their own right before our very eyes - and being an active part of a team's infancy is arguably just as cool, or even cooler, than jumping on the ship of a team that's been around a hundred years. You can be a true Day One. Not saying you shouldn't follow the Premier League, it definitely has its own appeal. But once you're settled in with that and if you feel the need to scratch the soccer itch further, I strongly recommend finding an MLS team to support rather than double dipping in Europe. tl;dr: MLS has great supporters' cultures, the quality of the league is constantly improving, and being a part of a team's early history is dope

I'm a Newcastle United fan, hearing Humphrey suggest my team is awesome. We used to be a regular "big 4" team in the EPL but have lost our way ever since Mike Ashley has taken ownership of the club for the last 10 years. There has been a serious lack of investment at NUFC during Ashley’s time here and there is talk of him selling the club, I hope this happens soon but I’m not holding my breath. We are currently fighting relegation after being promoted 2 years ago, our squad lacks quality but we have one of the best managers in the league; Rafa Benitez. If Ashley sells the club and Rafa stays at the end of this season I honestly think NUFC could once again start competing for those top spots in the EPL.

Thomas Dalton, I am also a Stoke City fan... What are the chances! Jake and Amir don't support Stoke or you'll be in for a lifetime of disappointment

Dilpreet Chana

I love the disgust in the way Humphrey says "Spaniards"

Matty Grainger

You're really gonna want to get into the SCOTTISH Premier League!! The coy-est of boys being Aberdeen Football Club, get involved xo

Nayim Ali

You guys should really talk about the various goal celebrations different players have, for instance Paul Pogba who plays for Man Utd does the signature Jake Hurwitz DAB dude

Leo

Love the pod but when is the next one coming out?

Follow United

Jeshua Suescun

is there a way yall can organize the patreon content into files. Like I rally just wanna binge all of the videos of yall watching yalls videos, but its annoying having to scroll and look for them contsatnly.

Just Doug is fine

Let me toss my team’s hat in the ring. Manchester United was founded by a group of humble rail yard workers back in 1878. They have the coolest nickname by far: THE RED DEVILS. Despite being one of the wealthier clubs throughout their history they have been known for their home grown talent like Paul Scholes (exposed penis dude) and of course David Beckham (the hotty). In the 50s perhaps one of the greatest teams ever assembled known as the Busby babes perished tragically in a plane crashed and the club, from the ashes, emerged and recovered to be one of the most dominant teams in history. From the 80s until 2013 they were incredibly dominant under perhaps the best manager of all time, Alex Ferguson. BUT since his retirement the team but has been struggling. But again, from the ashes, a well loved ex-player has taken over as manager this season and is slowly mounting a comeback! JOIN US

Pick Chelsea, there's literally one hundred reasons why

I really hope this isn’t the last episode
