My friend and I actually appear in Rolex in the background of the opening establishing shot. We were in highschool and my friend emailed collegehumor and asked if we could come meet Jake and Amir because we were such huge fans, so we ended up getting to watch them shoot the whole video. They were incredibly nice. One funny thing I remember is that the "youre a cunt!" was improvised in the moment, and after they cut for that take, Jake actually turned to my dad (who had taken us there) and apologized to him for it getting so vulgar. My dad was laughing so hard he didn't care.

Treskatay

Workshop C+ Rolex: A, just for beefing soy. Jake's wrists are thinner than Amir's dad's legs.

Rikard Ström

what happened to the football podcast?

Dillon Melnick

Love this episode, had me crying tears of soy, can’t wait to see you guys in dc

Parm

Love Rolex! 💕 If you watch grill or tinder I will fax you 69 shitcoin 📠

I love the world of Jake and Amir. It’s like a degree or two detached from reality and it takes a little while to get into, but once you’ve oriented yourself, it’s just great. The Rolex episode is a home run example of what I mean. Like, if Rolex is the first episode of Jake and Amir you’re showing somebody, it’s a little hard to get into. But once you understand the humor style and the characters, it’s hilarious. I’d really love to see y’all review an episode where Will eats shit and give some of the backstory there. Like, it’s such a low hanging fruit of a gag, but I love it so much. I’d also like to see some Shia episode commentary and of course, the Reddit episode.

Bringing up the vest and the 30th birthday episode reminded me of my favorite Amir line ever!! “Ever had a shit day? I’ve had a shit life!” And an amazing Jake line “you’re adding the ‘love’ to the end of it!” Do 30th Birthday next!!

Max Nuccio

Workshop is a definite B. No banger jokes but every joke is chuckle-worthy and overall it is a funny premise and well-executed. Rolex might be an A-. I think the “You’ll look before work! You’ll look before work or I’ll take it back!” line is an all-timer and one of the most under-appreciated lines of the whole series.

Max Heckert

It's weird to think of these episodes as existing on the same continuum like this series does, because the early Jake and Amirs are so rough and loose compared to the later episodes. But I think it's important to realize that my love for the early ones is what kept me coming back week after week. And only after spending years with the characters do I see them evolve into a more well-paced well-shot version of themselves. That to me is what is so engaging about J&A in particular. Each vid is at once a chaotic burst that can only possibly exist in 3 minute increments, and also an eternal paradigm, where any single snapshot contains the essence of the series. Jake and Amir are at any point in time doing something completely destructive and unsustainable, and we the audience know exactly where they'll be next week. This isn't a dynamic that can just show up. J&A couldn't have just written Rolex and released it if they hadn't already been making J&A for years. The concepts that each sketch is built on can generally stand on their own, but the character work has such a momentum to it, and that to me is the magic. That is part everyone wishes they could make, but few can. This is actually why I think I have a hard time connecting to Lonely and Horny. Those episodes to me feel like "what if we made Rolex-era J&A but it's a new crazy person, and the straight man can be someone on a date with him." I even see the show go for that same J&A vibe, chaos in perpetuity. Ruby will take everything to a 10, and next week he'll be back doing something else. But it's missing something. It's missing that momentum. I the viewer don't know these characters, and at the pace the show moves, I can't really learn all that much about them. I get the sense that I am supposed to trust J&A that I know all I need to know about these people and can just jump right in, but it just doesn't work. I can't buy in. I don't think you can cheat that momentum, even when the characters are so reminiscent of the ones previous. Just my two cents. Workshop C+, Rolex B. Would love to see Pizza and Prom covered at some point, and of course an insecure Jake episode!!

Dylan Forbes

Hey Amir you should do "BBYO IC Welcome Video". get some secret episodes up in here

Dylan Forbes

Also "Translator" would be fun. It doesn't get talked about much, but it's quite enjoyable.

JoeCheetahComeBeforeMyForest

@Max, good post. I too followed them week by week since the beginning. With L&H I can see how some might feel a lack of connection compared to J&A. But I loved L&H equally because to me it's all 1 thing, all of this comes from the same place in their comedic brains. It's their brand of humor, performances and skilled execution (especially technical execution nowadays) that I appreciate. Even them just going off into unplanned bits during the podcast gives me the same satisfaction as watching the CH versions of Jake & Amir or L&H's Josh & Ruby. It's all got the same core to me. That core is the idea of mocking absurd selfishness. And pitting that selfishness and absurdity against social norms while also playing in the language sandbox they've built over the last decade (saying words wrong, puns that the selfish character thinks are clever, putting emphasis on unexpected words or portions of a sentence, adding too much onto a saying or speaking words that sound like a quote but mean nothing, etc). Even Geoff and Riley have adopted this core style. One of you is the "bad", the other sees all of this clearly but cannot escape. I will keep consuming whatever form of content they keep offering. And I honestly enjoyed L&H very much. Even if you're not vibing with the jokes on the same level you did with J&A, I think just the quality of L&H deserves recognition. In season 2, one of the episodes had an opener with Ruby on the toilet using his phone, doing so many terrible things to people at such a rapid efficient pace. The whole sequence was genius. Same with the other split screen showing how him and his future date both spent their days. L&H was a super solid piece of work imo.

Jorel Hoffert

I love how Jake is like the encyclopedia of J&A. He's a fan like the rest of us.

Aaron C

I agree with Jake on these ones. I might bump Rolex up to a solid A. I really like the bloody handprint on the wood after the jump-cut from Amir with the drill in workshop.

Aaron C

I'd like to see Celebration, or Cheryl if you can get Allison Williams on the show.

Pat

Both solid As

Rowan Zen Ward

My favourite Jake and Amir episodes are generally the early ones, but the last ones with that opening like Grill, Rolex, Baby Bjorn, Nose Job and Fur really even topped a lot of those

TJ

Wow I thought I'd seen them all but I've never heard of Workshop

Joey Schuenke

I'm not a big fan of workshop but Rolex is one of my favorites just because of the Tears of Soy line.

Jake B

P.S. Go Bills!

Sujan Sooriyakumar

only seen it like twice, one of the lesser known ones for sure

Josh B

😂 Jake "help us!" Rolex is a solid A for me, especially with the outtakes

PogieJoe

I love when they find a hilarious line that they both forgot about.

Aakash R

Rolex is one of my favourites, the links being removed from the Rolex gets me every time!

Henry Kruse

Tears of soy and the links jokes make this a classic but not one of my personal favourites. If you guys take suggestions I would love to see a review of either the Table Reads or Bitcoin. The jokes about Amir not knowing what Cash is, just so funny to me

Samuel Ouellette

Never noticed the bloody piece of wood with the ''drawer'' haha

Evelyn McCorkle

When are you guys going to watch the Cheryl vids with Allison Williams?! They were so funny!

Josh B

What if you guys bought Jake & Amir from collegehumor, just so you’d have the freedom to revisit when you have a funny idea. Even if it was just once and a while like the Trump one. They’re such hilarious characters

Tshi

I can't believe I've never seen workshop before.

Tomas Feeney

Rolex is comfortably an A maybe A+. The opening kills me "Call me Jake" and also the part where Amir thinks his script is close to what actually happened.

Luis Cobb

I love the patreon but I feel like you guys are missing some good jokes when you talk over the videos. try pausing more

Charles Crushtoost

I’d say Rolex is a solid A. Also I would love to see you guys comment on the episode where Jake shows his highly insecure side and Amir takes over as straight man, like “Chinstrap”, “Muscle Tee” or “The Club”

Max Heckert

For sure my favorite parts of L&H are the openings. Anything that more closely follows a sketch within the show is what I enjoy the most. And I agree, the quality and technical aspects of the scenes you mentioned absolutely worked great, but I actually think that the "high quality" and production value are where I get the biggest disconnect on the show's take. I mean it always starts like a regular comedy series, but by the end of most episodes the tone feels more like the end of an indie movie (like it's Juno or something), and it's like, if Ruby was taking any time to deal with the emotions this music/footage is supposedly setting up, there's no way he'd be back at it as a shithead next episode. But then he is. And that is innately frustrating to watch, even if I try to just remember that these are 10 minute comedy vignettes. Imagine if The Office had that level of production value and soundtrack. There's no way that it would enhance the experience. It would only serve to confuse the thematic take of the show. And I think that's exactly what's happening with L&H.

Elias

"Fun" fact: In "Rolex" Jake claims he's never ever asked Amir what time it is, but he actually DOES ask Amir for the time in "Itinerary"!

RYAN J RISHEL

Hey jake. Hi Amir. This is sooo worth the 5 bucks a month. Seriously. The laughs you bring me are unmatched. I've never supported anything in my life. But i'll support you every time until you're both dead.

Afta Hill

Honestly when workshop first came out, it was one of my favourite episodes. I remember stumbling across it on iTunes of all places. It was free to download and I was not on vacation so I downloaded a ton of em. Workshop was so funny to me then, and it stood the test of time. A for sure (not quite an A+ though)

Lee Cohen

I loved those little Flip cameras!

Dan Wilson

Thanks for all the great content boys. Loving it. Minor suggestion: Turn that intro/outro theme music down, or turn the other stuff up. It's a dope joint but it just bangs too hard, you feel? Much love, Andrew

Ann

Do Jake and Amir Baseball next!! It’s filmed Momento style

Ann-Perla Lande

Heavy Lifting & Celebration are my favourites. Oh and Snack Attack :) Would love to see you watch those!

Jeremy Hannah

yay work shop is one of my favorites

Evan Engelhardt

Amir, I don’t know what you’re talking about because your hair in Rolex is legit dope as hell.

Rachel Ombok

Rolex is the video that got me invested in the series! amazing video

Smiththebat

Definitely B+ to both of them. Loved them both for different reasons!

Julie R

I was laughing so hard at Workshop, I thought for sure you'd give it a higher grade! I'd say A for Workshop, and B+ for Rolex.

Robbie Bernstein

If Rolex had the Mister joke in it, it would be A+ maybe even S tier

Kaitlin Ritchie

Please watch Ace and Jocelyn Episode 9!!!

jontheguy

Workshop: A Rolex: A- Both episodes were exceptionally good. I gave a higher rating to Workshop because it was especially good for its time.

Valter

I definitely think Workshop is an A+. One of the absolute best imo. And rolex is probably also an A. Very good as well. The early episodes I often think are funnier, but this is a later standout.

Dante's Insano

Well in 2008 I was a depressed 13 year old and in 2013 I was a depressed 18 year old, so I'd say A++ for nostalgia!

Nathen Larocque

Workshop was the first Jake and Amir I watched, and I've been a fan ever since. Not my favourite but it does a good job of outlining precisely how infuriating Amir can be. Glad to contribute, you've never disappointed.

Brennan Danek

I use the "it's time for me to get you a new watch" anytime someone asks what time is it

Scoota Gray

i think rolex is A+ one of your best for sure. has every element.

Eve Madden

So rolex has to be an A- and honestly workshop is an A, which is fair; it's more than fair actually

Joel T

Don't be talking bad about flip cameras!

Joel T

Workshop: A Rolex: A Workshop is an underrated classic. Rolex is a top tier 2013-era episode.
