Percy pulled up his Status to check the new entry at the bottom of the mutation section.

___

Mutations:

·         [Saint’s Eye] – Draws from the cumulative knowledge listed in the Status to enhance one’s senses, allowing them to discern details previously unseen.

·         [Greater Thess’kalan Physique] – Greatly enhances one’s physical strength and the toughness of their body. Greatly enhances one’s resistance to high or low temperatures and sharpens their thermal sense. Greatly enhances one’s resistance to toxins.

·         [Ruby Bones] – Reinforces one’s bones.

·         [Dead Winter Elemental] – Uses ice mana to regenerate, shapeshift and sustain one’s body. Allows every part of one’s body to interact with souls.

·         [Grey Panoply] – Selectively reinforces the most rigid of one’s body parts.

___

The wording of Grey Panoply was interesting. Micky’s version of the mutation appeared to be even more general than Kassorith’s – probably due to the fact that the Huehuan could apply it to all sorts of alien physiologies and body parts. Percy’s gaze couldn’t help but linger on the word “selectively”, however.

“Do you think you can reverse it, after all?” he asked his fellow aspect.

Micky tried it. His grey scales didn’t change colour, but Percy could still hear faint snapping and shifting sounds coming from them, as well as his friend’s bones and fangs. A few seconds later, the noise stopped, before restarting again – seemingly in reverse.

“I can remove or reapply the transformation at will,” the Huehuan confirmed once he was done. “It looks like we were too cautious.”

Percy nodded. They’d considered the possibility, but they hadn’t wanted to risk Micky losing the opportunity to practice repeatedly with a body that had lacked the mutation.

“What do you think about my Greater Thess’kalan Physique?” he asked.

Micky shifted back to his Huehuan appearance before responding. He even went so far as to alter the colour of his body to that of regular skin this time, clearly feeling more comfortable looking like an actual person than an animated statue of magical ice.

“Muscles and organs are far more complex and diverse than bones and scales, and I don’t have nearly as many examples to study,” Micky said with a sigh. “I suppose that there is no harm in trying, but don’t expect me to copy it in the next few months.”

“That’s fine. Split your time between that and Shapeshifting Sentries as you please. Nephthys and I have our own tasks to work on, as do the rest of our clones and allies,” Percy said.

At least, Micky wasn’t going into this project completely blind. He had access to the memories of both Percy and the clone who had possessed Kassorith before, during, and after undergoing the ritual. He could also study Percy’s experience of living with the mutation for over a decade and cross-reference it with hundreds of humans who didn’t have it.

The Huehuan didn’t even need to perfect the mutation – even making his body slightly stronger would be better than nothing. When Percy figured out how to tap into his ancestral lineage and use the final set of ingredients, Micky would have another chance to study the process.

While Percy wanted to improve his own mutation primarily so that he would be able to handle his familiar’s acid mana a little better, there were two main reasons why he wanted his friend to do the same.

Micky was a beast. His fighting style largely revolved around his physical strength. Mutations were even more important for him than other people. On top of that, Percy needed his friend’s help to produce an even stronger form of ice mana.

Through his Crystallization, Reinforcement, and Phantomspun Silk spells, Percy had figured out a way to turn his phantom mana into an extremely durable and flexible material to craft his equipment out of.

Unfortunately, Micky still didn’t have any good weapons and armour of his own – just the shoddy tools he borrowed from Percy. Due to his inability to generate enough phantom mana to properly maintain, repair or replicate them, and his soul-freezing ice mana twisting their form and harming their structural integrity, the Huehuan had to fight most of his battles practically naked.

Regular ice mana just wasn’t strong enough to rely on, but the augmented variants that he might produce inside his body after copying Percy’s mutations might be a different story.

‘Maybe I can further improve my silk, or combine it with Micky’s mana to develop even better materials,’ Percy thought.

It had been years since he had woven his own Cloak, and his magiscript skills had climbed to a whole new level. The problem was that researching new configurations for his materials was an arduous and time-consuming process, and Micky hadn’t even perfected his own version yet, so it made no sense to begin experimenting with flawed ingredients.

This would have to wait until Micky was done.

Bidding his fellow aspect farewell, Percy left his residence, making his way toward his family’s camp just outside the settlement. He walked casually, to give his clone a chance to return from Gallimus.

When the new bundle of memories reached him, he understood everything that had happened in outer space and the Sapphire Pavilion’s venue a lot better. The knowledge that Aje had shared about the Concept realm was fascinating, while the prizes that the clone had won from the auction were even more so.

As excited as Percy was about the karmic compasses, he decided not to act on them immediately. He still wanted to visit Melodia before heading anywhere else, and he didn’t have enough clones to send out on multiple trips.

In fact, he technically didn’t even have one, since he had left clones in Nephthys, Elaine, and Archibald – to work on their artificial advancements. Percy had wanted to leave one in Galahad’s body as well, on top of reserving at least a single cord to grant the Moirais’ Decree to the allied nobles.

Unfortunately, Percy couldn’t afford to delay giving everyone their new cores, since they needed to start cleansing and practicing with them as soon as possible. He also didn’t want to stop his interstellar adventures entirely, so his uncle was the one who had drawn the short end of the stick.

‘So many things to do, and so few clones to do them,’ he thought with a sigh. His promotions to Blue and the new cords they would grant him couldn’t come fast enough.

The good news was that some of his recent purchases didn’t require any of his cords.

Reaching his grandfather’s tent, Percy found Nesha and Galahad inside, discussing alliance logistics with Archibald.

Apologizing for interrupting the meeting, Percy summoned hundreds of intricate boxes from his spatial seal, stacking them on a tall but neat pile in a corner of the small tent. His girlfriend and relatives watched him with great interest, though they didn’t ask any questions, since he had already informed them about his latest haul.

“I’ve sorted them in descending order of their remaining duration,” Percy explained once he was done. “Start handing out the ones on the left, since they’re due to expire sooner. The colours of the treasures are pretty self-explanatory, so there shouldn’t be any confusion as to the affinities they grant.”

“I don’t know if I’ll be able to use every single charge optimally with this little time, but I’ll do my best,” Galahad warned.

“Of course,” Percy replied, having no unreasonable expectations of his uncle.

House Avalon, the Guild’s strongest combatants, and the nobles scheduled to reach the Fungal Spire in the next few weeks would obviously be given priority. The last group would also be provided with small batches of treasures to bring back to their families, to help spread out Percy’s gifts. House Etna alone had a couple thousand mages, while the other five Houses easily totalled over fifteen hundred. The Alchemists’ Guild had a lot more people than that, but only a fraction of them were both powerful and experienced combatants.

After all was said and done, Percy expected to have around five thousand candidates to receive the treasures. Since most of them would hopefully acquire a second core as well in the near future, and roughly twenty percent of the cores would possess the pure affinity – thus requiring a pair of new elements each – Percy estimated that they would need around twelve thousand charges.

However, not everyone would receive the Moirais’ Decree or reach the Fungal Spire in a timely manner, and there might be elements that they needed more or fewer charges of, so he felt that paying ten thousand tokens for the treasures had been a good compromise to minimize wastage. Any mages who got left out or who joined the alliance later would have to wait for a future batch.

Once Nesha and Galahad reassured him that they would handle the rest, Percy turned his attention to his grandfather, taking one final affinity-changing treasure out of his spatial seal: a worn notebook that contained a pair of glossy silver sheets.

“Is that what I think it is?” the Violet asked, seeing through his grandson’s intentions at a glance.

Percy grinned, tearing out the first of the two pages and crumpling it up into a small ball before handing it over. “Eat up, gramps. I can hardly wait to have another person to share all this responsibility with…”

Oh. Fucking awesome. So we'll have info and confirmation tomorrow or the day after. Please, don't make this disappointing. The last book ended in 2 major "failure".

Iyad Al-Najjar

Personally, I hope he can not have a soul clone. Something like the blood line only works on the first element.

Tim

I would have expected they have to read it, not eat the paper.

pratticus maximus

Thank you! Excited to see where things go. Is the divine root paying attention to everything Percy is developing?

Dé ku

It would make no sense for him to achieve the same effect as the Percy bloodline, Because the mutation of the bloodline to adapt to the type of mana affinity must occur during birth at the same moment that the decree works to bestow the bloodline

ThoMiCroN

Soul + Life Clones could make True Clones. It would be a game changer. With just a few cells, he could create a clone anywhere.

Tim

It's not a different mutation/bloodline, according to the status. Gabes bloodline also worked with different elements. Of course the status could be incorrect but so far it has never added information that turned out to be incorrect. Even though it probably only has the same knowledge as percy. So it might have a way to validate the infos?

ThoMiCroN

Percy’s ability is not a mutation. It’s just what cloning does when it’s the soul that is cloned. Same with Life Clones when it’s the body’s cells that are cloned. The Life Clones are mindless due to the absence of either mind or soul mana, just like Percy’s clones are bodiless due to a lack of Life mana. Water clones as well are just clones with water mana. It’s all the same thing. If anything, Percy has neglected to explore what cloning Pure mana would mean.

Ocellus

I don’t think so. Bloodline and core type are 2 completely different things. His bloodline didn’t “mutate” it’s the same bloodline, he just doesn’t have the life affinity to use it like the rest of his family.

Dé ku

No, there will certainly be an effect on the bloodline’s functioning—for example, it may allow a spirit to be cultivated within the copy, enabling the copy to think and act independently.

Iyad Al-Najjar

Sure, I am talking about the soul clone. Percy like clone.

Tim

We would have to see if the clone gets his own mana core. Maybe only one via morai decree. Then cut the cord to the main body.

Dé ku

What I meant was the radical difference between Percy's bloodline and his grandfather's bloodline. Which is that he has a ghostly claw that interacts with his soul directly, And his grandfather has a womb to grow the copy Do you think his grandfather will get a ghostly claw now?

spookywork

Me too. I am hoping for something like, he can only send the soul clone within the same planet. Or only to his own life clones. It would emphasize more on how special the Low Wanderer is and how much of a freak Percy's bloodline is. Even something simple like creating Aspects is too OP.

Tim

Not sure the womb was ever mentioned or if it is a bloodline specific part. Maybe life claw just gets a dna sample or something, I don't think we know enough of how the life version works to be certain about either case.

Jacob

I’m assuming Archie is just going to be a straight upgrade. Combine Life and Soul to use the bloodline and you have an actual clone all at once, or just use the soul mana and make a soul clone.

later_mate

It’s still the same bloodline. Ghostly claw is what happens when one uses clone bloodline on the soul core

Dé ku

You should read the first chapters, when Percy was training his bloodline with his grandfather. It has been explained about the difference between the two bloodlines

Kaladin

I'm wondering less about wandering the stars and more about spreading the moirai's decree as that's the most powerful decree in existence and being able to endlessly replicate it is better than the void decree by itself. If Archibald can do this he becomes more valuable than several titans to the void hand or any major faction.

Tim

In chapter 12 he puts his hands together, forms a green sphere in that the fetus grows. Until it's a toddler then the sphere is not needed anymore. The information on how to grow the body comes from the mana moving through baldy body. I assume the green sphere is just life mana to not expose the clone to air. And the information part would still not explain how badly can supply mana remotely to the clone. So we don't know if life users have a claw or not.

Sunless

True clones probably will require mind mana as well, I am guessing if clones are made with life and only one other affinity be it soul or mind they become sentient and a lot more independent but still don't have mana or willpower

Pekka Kohonen

Someone mentioned Soul+Life clones. Maybe you can use Soul clones to possess your Life clones, creating Life clones that can act independently, and with all the skills of the original. Don’t know how much this helps though…

Pekka Kohonen

Who will get the last Soul affinity? Orin? Nesha? Just some random kid? I remember there was a chapter on some kid in Percy’s clan. But I don’t remember what kind of a second core he got? Or if it was discussed at all.

Tim

I feel like lots of wanderers might fail get an aspect, unless there is a more reliable method in the future. But currently the familiar needs to be able to recover from "death" (which is probably not possible for all affinities) and the main body needs proper resistance to not die too. Maybe the blessing too. Then there was the mother load of Wiseman murmurs that was used, maybe mind mana would work too, but probably in quantities that it needs to be supplied by a god. Or maybe the perfect memory mind decree would work.

Tim

That was Elaine little brother, Percy gave him his old ocarina when he was a toddler. But he shouldn't have a second core yet unless it happened offscreen.

Dé ku

Doesn't this explain everything? This is the effect of the bloodline , so that the copy grows within it. Or do you think that the ball of life mana was formed by Archibald himself , and has no relation to the bloodline ? And that's what I called the womb.

Tim

I think he might have formed it himself to support his bloodline so it might not be required, but no real way of knowing that is what I am saying.

Spicyice101

Eh, there are people who eat paper all the time, usually kids, but my assumption is you have to eat it cause the contents of the paper has to reach your core, and while they say the eyes are the window to the soul, reading sounds like a very efficient way to transfer the needed concept to the core

Pekka Kohonen

Well I suppose it could be him. Although getting a second core is quite painful. But it would make sense to keep it in the family

Blake N.

It has to be someone with a pure affinity, so not Nesha

Tim

Speaking of making percy more resistant to acid, wasn't one of the ingredients called conflux of a 1000 poisons. Maybe percy could add the wasp acid to that after treatment. It can also be charged with acid mana for better effect. Technically he could even collect poison across the universe for a more general effect.

Pekka Kohonen

You are correct! And of course she does not have the clone bloodline. But Elaine’s brother might work. Maybe it is good to start young with the Soul Clone bloodline for the second one.

GreatCabbage

Actually Pure clones have been mentioned! They do nothing. Just intangible masses of pure mana in the shape of Percy. While the only other element that has been tried is water, it has been stated that the effect for all common affinities, and presumably composite as well, is to recreate the shape of the caster in said element. Seems like only Rare affinites can have an effect with the bloodline. Minus Pure and maybe beast. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the author had plans for utilizing the pure clone for something later down the line that isn't yet apparent.

GreatCabbage

Really curious to see how this will turn out for Archibald! They have the same bloodline, so he should be able to send out soul clones just like Percy. Tbh I'm worried this would devalue our main boy, but half the fun of this story is others getting similar advantages (second core, ruby dust, gloomy dawn, etc.), and still being thoroughly behind Percy in terms of sheer momentum. Shows that Percy's success has just as much to do with him as a character as it does with his lucky encounters. Holding out faith🙏

R. Maxwell Steele

To be honest his Grandfather will likely have a lot of adventures, and it will speed up his understanding of learning a concept and elemental acquisitions. But when it comes to actual wandering, he's lacking all do the tools that Percy has developed. From learning how to stitch up souls, to the pocket space seal, to the soul contract. A dozen various little things that will make him struggle to help anyone except his own learning process.

R. Maxwell Steele

Soul clones clearly have a soul mind. So the mind mana seems incredibly unnecessary. Since they grow the clones essentially from a infant to an adult maybe the grandfather can figure out how to stimulate a natural core formation.

R. Maxwell Steele

I don't think it will matter too much because if it works the grandfather will use it to learn how different mana works and then as soon as he hits clear, he will learn a concept and be the youngest deity ever.

R. Maxwell Steele

Just based on probability, there should definitely be people who possess the bloodline who have pure mana (doubled chances with 2 cores) who would be obvious people to give the Soul affinity

Blake N.

I think none of them got the bloodline from that part of the family

mezeka

No longer the Lone wanderer then? Tftc

MinE

And replace the Abyssal Moss with Mickey's spiritual Blood.
