Hey folks!

Merry Christmas from the Arvus Team!

Thank you all for your awesome support in 2019. It was a crazy year, we've released Below Sunshade, our first game on Steam, a lot of Roundscape content and started the production of our first 3D game.

Let's talk about Project Uprising!

Last time we've mentioned that you'll be able to play Project Uprising pretty soon, now we can tell you that we're aiming for an initial release for February 2020!

Project Uprising is our next big title since Roundscape which we'll create together with you. So unlike Below Sunshade or Arenus, the game won't be released in a finished state but instead we'll do regular updates and shape the game's content together.

Some of you wondered why we don't finish Arenus first, i'll be honest with you guys. We've run into heavy technical problems caused by the very limited RPG Maker engine we've used for our previous games and Arenus.

We've reached the ceiling of what is possible and are right now are taking a close look at Arenus and how we can make sure that it becomes the game it deserves to be. All our future titles will be produced with Unity.

You are the hero. Chose a gender, customize your character and define his or her personality through 8 different traits.

Similar to Roundscape the player character will be more of in a blank state and you'll be able to define his/her personality. Thanks to the advantages of 3D developement, we're able to add a lot of customization options. You can see an example of the character creation at the top of this post.

Of course we'll be adding more options as the game grows bigger.

Below you can see an example for the dialogue system in Project Uprising.

We really want to go back to our roots but we also don't want to walk on the spot. So we've taken inspiration from existing dialogue systems from our favorite RPGs such as Divinity Original Sin 2 or Fallout New Vegas.

We've worked a lot on Project Uprising's combat since we've first announced it.  Or better said: We've reworked it a lot.

We want the game to be simply fun: We're NSFW Devs in the first place. The Game and its combat shouldn't be frustrating or stressful.

Just click on an enemy to start auto attacking him, use special skills to get the upper hand. Just as in Dragon Age Origins and if you feel like overwhelmed you can always press space to activate slow motion to plan your actions.

You'll be able to equip up to two passives, three active skills and two items.

But what is Project Uprising about?

It's easy. You're playing a young adult who's blessed with powers. Your goal will be to become famous/known. The question is: What kind of hero will you be?The optimistic hero who would never betray his ideals, the one who does what is necessary or do you just want to fight stronger enemies and show the world?

Along your way you'll meet many different characters who may become your companions in combat, create your own team and of course: Experience a lot of kinky action and romances.

We hope we were able to spark your interest in Project Uprising!Let us know what you think in the comments and on discord!

Stay tuned

Project Uprising - Character Creation Teaser

Current State of the Character Creation in Project Uprising

TBH, I'm all about this. The only thing I want to know is if it's action based or is it wait your turn. I'm more of a fan of action RPG's than anything if this is going to fit into that genre..

Roundscape

It's kinda a mix. Due the slow motion feature you can kinda decide if it's fast paced or more similar to a classic RPG.

Alternate

Yup, I'm also sad that you guys turn to 3D. You've been making some of the best games with 2D art, and that was making you stand out, and now you will be just another 3DCG smut developer. But hey, it's just a non-patron opinion. :)

Roundscape

It's not 3DCG, the game's running in Unity. It's 100% realtime rendered and everything is animated.

RazRazor

If I may ask, how many people are currently working on Project Uprising and how many on Arenus? Are people working on both projects side by side or did you split the team?

Badaxe Tip Jar

Most important things what kind of fetishes will you add in the game

Grimson

So I'm going to assume that Roundscape is still being made but put on a backburner? Just how many projects ya'll work on? It's got to slow things down a bit.

Roundscape

Roundscape is a completed game, we'll release a final gold patch for it in 2020 tho.

Hey, after reading some of the other comments I just wanted to say that if the animations throughout the game stay on the same level as in the post and on the character creation screen, I have no doubt that it will be great. Also the move to unity will probably give you additionally possibilities regarding gameplay, so i am very exited. I just find it surprising that people are scared about the move to 3D because there are so many shitty 3D adult games. The problems these games have is not the 3D but shit gameplay, uninspired/basic story and no love for details, and looking at something like roundscape you probably don't need to worry too much about a lot of the competition.

Osiris

Really liked the first Uprising so I'm excited to see all the changes here. Will it have a similar range of taste as in the first one or more expansive like Roundscape?

Ilya

soo fucking sad....w8 for Arenus and got this 3dcrap... gg

Robert Arctor

I really liked the writing in Uprising, the MV version. Not a fan of the engine, prefer renpy VNs, so it's just about the story. I had no interest in Arenus, so this is generally good news. I'm not terribly excited to hear the 3d action announcement as it takes quite a lot of work for the animation to be good enough to pay off and not look poor - but I guess action mechanics do fit the genre. I thought the MV action screens were something I had to suffer through to get to the story and the H-scenes; let's see if it will be the same with unity or not. 2d rendered CG made with 3d assets can look great though, looking forward to seeing the results there :)

Kira

Hi, I like it and I have to admit that you did a piece of work and what concerns me I am of the opinion of the progress and technology if the game will have some direction and depth like Roundscape so I'm definitely for 3D,) And next year I will certainly support you... ,)

Karackas

I gotta say, the best part of Roundscape was the species variety. If this game is going to be human-centric, then I hope these are some damn fine looking humans!

Binnoc9

I can't wait to play it!

Doctor Fate

So PC Female/Male character customization? I like that replay ability factor.

waffel

Since you are now using unity, will you be so kind as to having a Linux build beside the windows and/or the Mac one. Unity does not play ball with standard wine, and you have to setup Proton and tech like that before you have a chance to get it working. And making a Linux build should be as easy as making a windows build especially if you do not use arcane 3rd party libraries in your code :) RPGM MV is easy to convert to native Linux because it's based on webtech, Ren'py is easy to convert but otherwise plays ball nicely with standard wine because it's based on Python, Unity creates strong platform dependant binaries, so it doesn't share the same kind of platform in-dependency as the other two engines. Wish you a happy new year.

Osiris

Tbh, they could say people with alien looks just have mutant type powers or something.

Ayra

Thank you for giving us the option for a female protagonist after all! For NSFW games, I simply can't play male protagonists, so this is very welcome.

DrakonM15

Dam this looks really promising. I look forward to see where this leads in the future.

OmegaYikes

What everyone (including me) is so sad about is not 3D as in those cheap 3D renders you see everywhere. It's that 3D is jarring to look at. Or, in other words, it's not the problem that it's 3D (well, yes it is but..), the problem is that it's not 2D. You can make the best 3D render ever known to men, it will never cut it when compared to a top-tier 2d one. Because it flat out looks worse. Now, if your plans are to stray away from the h-game genre and make "normal"(as in, non h) then by all means, continue with what you are doing right now. But if there is any sort of adult content in uprising.. Unity + 3D are not the way to go chief. Unity + 3D is a sign, a sign that says "Nothing interesting here, keep moving". And it's sad, because Roundscape is truely one of the best and biggest h-games out there.. but looking at Project Uprising + the cancellation of Arenus and Banished, you guys might be one-hit-wonders, as hard as it may sound.

OmegaYikes

For me, and probably many others, 3D games are unpleasant to look at. And even you have to confess, compared to their previous games, most importantly Roundscape, this is the worst downgrade in the history of downgrades. We've went from one of the best, to something you can find just about everywhere.

OmegaYikes

(Replied to some, so this post is basically just a summarized version of my comments here) Promo4Promo with cheap 3D devs -> Arenus (as good as) cancelled -> Makes own 3D game. Truely a shame. Roundscape was such an amazing game, mostly everything afterwards was okay-ish (except Banished and Arenus, they looked SO amazing, but both are cancelled, I wonder why). Now we have this game. Now I don't want to be all bad-news-bears here, but... I don't think Kaliyo will be as big of a name as it is now a few months from now.

G Nill

how can I confess that it is a downgrade when I have not even played the game yet? "We've went from one of the best, to something you can find just about everywhere." Again, how do you know you can find it anywhere else if you don't even know what exactly you need to find. And don't make me laugh, there is a huge number of RPG maker games (even adult ones) around. Some of them are good, some are just absolute crap. The same goes for 3D games, so you have to wait and see.

OmegaYikes

It is a huge downgrade because these 3D games (And this game looks like no exception) are a torture to look at. And you can't find a game of the same caliber as Roundscape just about anywhere and that's why Roundscape is one of the best. But you can find enough 3D games no matter where you look. Because most (And with most, I mean all bar a few rare gems, but they still look bad cuz of 3D renders) 3D games look exactly the same and that's because you don't have any unique artstyles to them. With 2D games, you have a huge variety and art quality is different from artist to artist. WIth 3D games, if you've seen one you've seen them all.

Osiris

It's okay not to like 3D games, dude, but not all opinions are facts.

Digitall

What's gonna happen to the other Uprising?

Roundscape

We'll look into it, but Windows will always be our main platform. Also hope you folks have a good start into 2020 as well, cheers!

Roundscape

While we're proud of the story and world we've created with those games, the reception was pretty luke warm. We believe this is the best way to continue the uprising IP and I strongly believe that the Superhero genre offers a lot of playground for good NSFW games.

Roundscape

We hope that we can appeal to our Roundscape fans with this project, so you can expect a similar range of NSFW content in it.

Roundscape

I could now write an in-depth reply but instead i'm just going to say: Wait for the game and try it out yourself. Arenus and Banished are not cancelled. Pre-Production is complete, our goal is simply that Arenus becomes the best possible version of itself and that's hard to achieve in an engine such as RPG Maker.

waffel

Thanks, and even if I really prefer a native version, if you decide that you will only have a windows version, then consider selling your game on steam, since there will be a very good probability that the game will work really well with Steam Play! :)

TheRevanchist

heh, i don't even know what to think about this stuff anymore. a future of Unity? not sure if I'm down with the creative direction going forward. Arenus basically perma delayed? Gonna need to seriously consider if I wanna keep committing money to this.

OmegaYikes

Well, you gotta understand that you guys are known for Roundscape, which is indisputably one of the best 2d nsfw RPGs. Knowing that, Banished - vanished from the "Upcoming" tab without a word, Arenus is on a (for the public) undefined hiatus and to top it off you made a cross promo with some run-of-the-mill 3d devs and proceed to present your own 3d game. I mean, Uprising may or may not succeed, nobody can say for certain. But what is certain is that we went from Roundscape to this. 2D to 3D is just uncomparable in terms of quality, so uncomparable in fact, that the only reason for a sane human to go from 2d to 3d is that you lost your main artist. That is literally my only complaint about all of this. We went from beautiful, stunning artwork (Except a few outliers, like the prison with the orcs, yikes) to 3d renders. And we're not even done here. The change form 2d to 3d by itself is bad, yes, but it is accompanied by Arenus being put on update-hiatus and a cross promo with another 3d dev. All of these things have reasons behind them, i'm sure, but from the outside it's just a dumbsterfire. Also, off-topic, "I could now write an in-depth reply but instead i'm just going to say: Wait for the game and try it out yourself." Is as good as an answer as Blizzard saying "Don't you guys have phones?". This is just a very long version of "deal with it", even if it wasn't your intention. Edit : What I'm trying to say is, Arenus being put on hold / Banished being gone without a word isn't what's bothering me. What's bothering me is the change from 2d to 3d which is a change you only do if your main artist(s) aren't part of the team anymore. Or atleast that's what I hope the reason is, for my sanity.

Gareth

honestly as long as you keep slowly improving or create a ng+ for roundscape i'll keep subbing as anyone who can create something of that scope deserves some artistic freedom, even if roundscape is ceased to be worked on. i will likely still sub for a while, atleast untill i see the results of your next "big" project

Bagendenten

Just make do with what you have for Arenus in RPG maker. Get back to it and finish it, don't waste time second guessing everything. Just do it.

King Of Tentacle

any possibility of a villain or fallen hero type of route?

King Of Tentacle

ya know for those who might wanna drop any pretense of heroism outright
