[Update] Sweaty Summertime Shrinking – Finished corrections/revisions, on to finishing up visual related tasks. (Patreon)
Content
I've finished up with animation corrections/revisions now. Next comes wrapping up a bunch of visual-related stuff: scene-building, some leftover fx work, and then finally reworking lighting and shaders (and making sure all of that is consistent across the whole thing).
Working through that last part will basically go hand in hand with rendering everything, so after all that's done it'll just be audio and voice-work left to do.
Finishing up animation corrections/revisions
I worked through nineteen more shots (greyed out ones) doing corrections and revisions, which was mostly a combination of fixing clipping and other small animation changes again. I was thinking of doing another shot-by-shot changelog style like the previous update, but honestly I don't think it really adds all that much.
Instead I'll just highlight one of the more substantial changes I made; which is changing up this set of shots right before the ending segment. Here Lug lifts his foot up to reveal Hugo post climax:
Before, this shot went from a high up view of Lug's foot pulling back, then to a close up view of Hugo, followed by Lug returning with more bottles:
Now I've made the zoom in on Hugo much closer to focus on his expression, making it clearer that he's noticing Rog's return:
I've also added a new side-view shot of him turning to look and react as the tremors increase in intensity, which then flows into the original shot of Rog returning (with added camera shake):
And that finally wraps up animation corrections/revisions for this one. I think for projects long enough that shot clean-up is more than just a footnote I'll stick to a more condensed mini-update style like this (with asides for any big changes) over the approach I took last update.
What's coming up next
First is finishing up scene-building: moving Rog, Lug and Hugo out of that empty void and onto a nice sunny outdoor patio. Given how small the scene is I'm not expecting this to take that much time (probably a day or two):
After scene-building is done it'll be time to finish up the small amount of fx in this animation. That's mostly going to be adding in liquid and fake liquid physics to the bottles that don't already have it. That and more (or less) sweat droplets in places. The big outlier fx-wise is going to be doing actual liquid simulation for Hugo's climax under Lug's toe:
I'm planning on keeping it simple and understated, but even then doing liquid simulation internally in Blender is quite cumbersome so I'll have to see how it goes.
Finally comes completely reworking the lighting for most of the shots, along with updating some of the characters' shaders, and then making sure all of that looks consistent shot to shot. The process of going through and doing all that will basically go hand in hand with fully rendering the animation out, so after that it'll be onto audio and voice-work.
So, for next update I'm looking to have the scene-building done and the leftover fx-work too, though doing liquid simulation for Hugo's climax may end up being it's own update depending on how difficult it is to get done.
