MP4 (With sound)

It's something I think about often. Usually the discourse goes along the lines of, 'everything can be art'. Maybe a better question is, 'Is this good art', or, 'Does this have any meaning?'

I have a unreasonable hatred for art that is simply meta commentary, i.e. any kind of art that is made simply to ask the question, 'What is art?'. Some examples come to mind; Duchamp's toilet piece in 1917, or Andy Worhol's campbell's soup cans in the 1960s. A more modern example would be the artist who taped a banana to a wall with duct tape.

I don't have any formal art education, so I'd understand if someone who did felt I am simply uncultured. But I stand with the opinion that art should be beautiful. There are enough horrors in the world to suffice if you're looking to be depressed. And I think the question, 'What is art?' has been asked to the point where the question is simply cliche. It's boring. All I want is to make something beautiful, to take a piece of myself and to share it with my fellow people.

So, is this art? Does this have any more meaning besides the surface level visuals? I don't really know. I'm a dumb ass who just likes to make it :)

Probably one more week on this part, and then finishing up the rest of the scenes. That's all for now! See ya next week!

Added sounds make this SO amazing. I'd call this the best kind of art there is!

GasprArt

Yeah the VA for this is very good! I want to add more tentacle-y sounds too but I'm not sure how to get that kind of squirmy sound I'm looking for

It's an interesting perspective on art. On the one hand, I think there's unpleasant art that isn't beautiful in the most common sense of the word. Zdzislaw Beksinski is a very obvious example. His paintings aren't beautiful in the way a female body or a vibrant natural landscape might be. But there's a harmony, there's a meaning—is that also a form of beauty? The intention to evoke an emotion/feeling could be an interesting description, but the problem is that it's the perfect excuse for the artist who painted the banana on the wall. Best regards🤌🏻

GasprArt

Hmm maybe I chose the wrong words. I don't think art needs to be beautiful, exactly. But I think it should take effort, and there is beauty in the effort. It's what makes it human, it's what makes AI art meaningless to me. I looked up this persons work and they are truly amazing pieces. I can feel the emotion in the work, very morbid and dark. I just feel like, if the artist in question doesn't care enough about their work to spend time on it, why should I care about it? But I actually really love this artists work, so thanks for sharing them with me :)

I'm so glad we understand each other. I share your opinion regarding AI "art". Intention + effort: art?

Fantomu

I'd say so, it's a mix of effort, aesthetics, and meaning (engineers love triangles). Your animations go beyond surface level because of the detail and care put into the micro-expressions and such. I've always enjoyed the subtle touches like the toe curling and interlacing stuff between them because it conveyed the feeling and pleasure you don't really see elsewhere. Hope to reach that level of animating myself one day. Keep it up. :)

Art to me is when it's clear to me no one else could replicate without the need to copy. You're way seems abit more involved and passionate

GasprArt

Yes, I think effort is the biggest factor for me to really appreciate someone's work. It shows that the artist cares enough about their work to want to 'perfect' it. I wasn't aware of triangles being popular among engineers, I'm a much bigger fan of circles ;) I wouldn't say I'm particularly gifted. If you put in the time with desire to improve, I'm sure you will be an amazing animator! Good luck and ty fantomu :)

I would agree distinctiveness is important, I want my work to stand out, although I don't really put any thought into making it that way. I think it's a mix of technical skill and the artist's vision to get something really unique. Technical skill is important. It's the culmination of all the practice and failed pieces of the artist. I think I have a pretty good 'vision', but I need some work on my technical skill for sure. Anatomy, lighting, pacing is a big thing I need to work on. I kinda started rambling, sorry! Ty nicki :)

A banana duct taped to a wall sold for like 6 million dollars, so idrk if you can actually categorize it. If you call it art it's art imo.

To me, art is provoking. It makes one ponder, feel, and express. It brings about deep feeling. But it can also express a feeling or entice the viewer to a feeling. Your creations show incredible effort and attention to detail. I end up having all sorts of feelings (some of them just tingles and jingles) but also I sometimes think about how much work must've gone into a specific scene. Yes, to me this is art. In general, I think if one can broadly accept the idea that pornography can be art then this is absolutely art. What you said you care about most, the effort, that's absolutely apparent to me.
