All the birthrate scare talk has no basis. Ever since First Gundam Tomino has openly stated that he places his own thoughts on the enemies' side, usually split between the rival and a bald(ing) old man, and he has been consistent about this. Char/Gihren, Char/Jamitov, Char with a receding hairline, Iron Mask/Meitzer, Katejina/Kagatie. Gihren reduced the human population by half, Jamitov engineered a civil war to destroy the world economy leading to mass death, Axis, Iron Mask enhanced to kill 9/10 of humanity and now the Angel Halo. The methods are abhorrent, which is why they are villains but the goal is in line with Tomino's hopes. I'm pretty sure I've read about him saying that Japan's population should return to what it was during the Edo period so about 100 million less than what it is today.

That was some good stuff. You're gonna love the hogwash that comes out of Üso's mouth in the remaining episodes. Sexism AND ageism (maybe?) ahoy! It's really a shame, because I used to consider Üso one of my favorite Gundam MCs, and I never took what he said too seriously, but diving deeper thanks to you guys I'm immensely more critical of him... and only more in love with stupid Cronicle. (Btw they're technically both nepobabies. The real divide is who has more courage, how early in life were they trained in combat, and number of mommy figures they currently have.) Being a pathetic and weak-willed adult is more realistic and relatable, even if it is frustrating to watch in a mecha anime, than being a sanctimonious little snot-boy-genius. The show should've made him, Odelo and Tomáš change Karlmann's diapers while Shahkti, Elischa and Martina all pilot Victory variants. (But spare both poor Warren and Suzy from either!)

I know we've touched on it several times, but one of these days we'll do a proper research piece on (Neo)Malthusianism... It seems to be a real brainworm for many people of Tomino's generation and the one after.

To give Uso a little grace, for many of the sexist/gender-essentialist comments he makes, he is mostly repeating things that trusted adults are telling him.

So I watched episode 48 this evening and I’m just realizing now that the “Please listen to it” at the end of each podcast is likely based on Shakti saying “Please watch it!” at the end of the next time preview… Hopefully I’ll improve for G Gundam and get the references by episode 40. lol

Yeah, I can't remember if it's been for *every* season, but our sign-offs most seasons are based on something from the series itself.
