This week on MSB: Victory Gundam episode 51. After a wild road-to-air-to-space trip that took us from Kasarelia all the way to Kasarelia, we've reached the final stop and we're ready to type up our TripAdvisor reviews. Opinions on Victory's ending seem to vary quite a big, and ours certainly did! Please listen to it!

As usual, this week we're focusing on the final episode itself and reserving our judgment of the show as a whole, along with our responses to listener questions, for 10.52.

The end of Victory Gundam, wow. This has been a wild and quite enjoyable journey with you.

Congratulations on making it to the end! I know it was hard, but now you're both Winners Forever, and it only goes uphill from here. (Kinda!) You don't need to read all the novels or other materials to understand Cronicle, Nina. Back then during my first viewing, I didn't even know about the novels, and I still felt bad for Cronicle, because I felt bad for nearly everyone in this show. His pathetic nature fits right into the tragedy of this series, as an ordinary man that cannot operate beyond his own survival. I guess it's a vibe that one either picks up on or they don't. I was shocked that side material actually validated this vibe, and that's all I've been attempting to communicate with my comments. Admittedly I also let (namely Japanese) fans online shape my opinion of him and I wonder if some of them treat Victory more like a multimedia work than a single anime series, holistically acknowledging the novels, games, etc, and that's why I feel compelled to do so myself. Anyway, I am very excited for the bonus episodes that will follow. There is still so much to be said about this outrageous anime even after 51+ episodes of coverage.

Fair. I suppose, having seen Martina and Elisha, and hearing that they live nearby, I assumed that the others still did too (back where their parents settled when the gang first came to Kasarelia). BUT that's speculation on my part. True whereabouts unknown.

It seems like a tradition for rival characters in Tomino shows to flail around in the narrative like a plastic bag in the wind as the writers struggle to figure out a purpose for them that Monsters Of The Week can't fulfill, with Gije in Ideon and Bern and Todd in Dunbine getting pretty similar treatment to Cronicle here. Jerid in Zeta may be the loudest example - Kamille's already overcome him 4 episodes in, he loses Lila and Kacricon by the first dozen, and he seems like he's going to die at Jaburo until he's saved by the introduction of Mouar. Then he's just gone until episode 21, where he's repeating the same story he had with Lila but with Mouar while the show is setting up characters that seem to have a lot more purpose to their existence like Scirocco, Sarah and Yazan. The most prominent role he gets in the show's back half is episode 36, in a storyline where they just undid Four's death in episode 20 so they could kill her off again. Then he dies in the second-last episode as an afterthought (it's not even him who kills Henken, it's Yazan) while piloting what seems like the wrong mobile suit - why is he piloting a Baund Doc and what happened to his personal Byarlant?

I'm wondering if either of you has watched Xabungle given a certain topic you discuss in this episode.
