I think that bridge to the end is the longest y'all went without pausing. This was such a defining moment for swifties bc we went from being unsure they even broke up, to TF YOU MEAN "I WOULDNT MARRY ME EITHER????" Also, just that end part where she's literally just begging for any kind of answer from him. He was so absent in the relationship that at that point she's like just CHOOSE something. Obviously she wants him to choose her bc she loves him, but she's the only one putting any effort in. She wants him to even just risk the relationship to be real for 5 seconds. Because if he can't even do that, then there is no relationship anyway. She's got nothing.

She wrote this song 2 years BEFORE her and Joe broke up (so like 2021?) saying “My face was gray, but you wouldn’t admit we were sick” AND talking about her pulse/heartbeat?! Fast forward to 2024 and her song So Long, London on TPD talking about finally walking away from their 7 year relationship, she says lines like: “I stopped CPR, after all it’s no use” and “I’m just getting color back into my face…” THE WOMAN IS A LYRICAL GENIUS!! My favorite parts of this song is the fact she recorded her heartbeat for a second time (first time being in Wildest Dreams), you can hear her sigh in the beginning when it’s just her heartbeat. Also the Phoenix 🐦‍🔥 reference for a dying relationship. The Phoenix is a mythical bird that has a fiery death then rises from its own ashes as a baby and lives its life again until it inevitably dies again. It’s in a constant cycle mush like most dying relationships, someone is always the one who gives their “best me’s” but ultimately is the one to die from the relationship from constantly trying to be the best to be seen. 🫶 this song is where the Joe hate came from tbh

a phoenix is a beautiful mythological bird that continuously lives grows old, bursts into flames, and then is reborn again from the ashes created when the bird burst into flames. They have magical tears that can heal wounds. This is what she's referring to when she says she's tired even for a phoenix, always rising from the ashes, healing gashes.

Without sounding like I am screaming for more, I agree!! I want the book too!!! My biggest hope is that one day she’ll release a collection for each era—a beautifully bound volume with the lyrics, her reflections on each song, the Easter eggs she planted, a photo from that chapter of her life, and any poems she wrote during that time. A true table book, rich with insight and memory. Each song could include a short paragraph where she shares what it meant to her when she wrote it—what she was feeling, what she hoped we’d hear in it, and how it’s changed for her over time. She could even record her spoken thoughts around each album, layering voice into the archive. And as the years pass, she could keep adding to it—until, fifteen years from now, it becomes her first “story of my life,” told through poems and music. I would be entering my twilight so would love to listen to an audio book of her telling all the stories. Something to keep my mind sharp when I am in my late 70’s.
