Bailey

Yes! It is a love triangle told from each persons perspective! I think you will understand the whole story better if you listen to Betty, August, and Cardigan in one video.

Charlotte Morris

Just subscribed today I love seeing how you guys really appreciate Taylor! Sending love and thanks from England x

April Rutledge

Yes it’s the Cardigan, Betty and August Trinity all from a different perspective. Cardigan is Betty’s perspective. August is from the other girls perspective and Betty is the guy asking Betty for forgiveness.

April Rutledge

When are you two making an album?!?!?

willa Bryant

Can’t wait until yall get to Tortured Poets Department. It’s like an anthem to our life; yall are gonna love, love, love it!

Kourtney M

So this is a story And Cardigan is Betty’s side of the story The song Betty is James’ view of the story the song August is the “other girls” point of view. But Taylor didn’t tell anyone that. We had to figure it out Taylor is so good

Maddy Stephens

YOU HAVE to listen to August and Betty!! They tell a whole story alongside cardigan! PLEASSSSEEEE and we also need your reaction to all too well 10 minute version. It’s SO illegal 🥲🥲🥲

lena

subscribed today bc you two seriously give me sooo much happiness. extremely wholesome entertainment. so happy to see how much you appreciate taylor, too!!! thank YOU!!! 🤍

🫶🏼 Laura B. 🫶🏼

It would shock you to know that Cardigan, Maroon, loml, and Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus are all about the same Smallest Man Who Ever Lived. 🫠🫠🫠

Jessica Martin

I think you should react to the long pond sessions of all 3. Taylor and Jack describe it so well. It’s also acoustic and live. Which is better than anything you’ve listened to so far.

Jules

Betty is written from James’ perspective and Cardigan is written from Betty’s perspective. James had a summer fling and cheated on Betty. August is written from the perspective of the “other woman” who was also heartbroken because James was never really hers. Leave it to Taylor to interweave three gorgeous songs like a damn trilogy!

C.Michelle

Taylor is a big Peter Pan fan. She uses references to it in many lyrics.

Janessa

Please 🥰

Anna Niznik

Yes, I agree, August would be sooo good

Hannah Hansen

you definitely need to listen to betty and august because they're the other two songs in the so called teenage love triangle (one told from each person's pov: the one cheated on, the one who cheated, and the one he cheated with)

Rachel

Yes please!!! 😊

Kimberly Hess

Yes, yes, yes connect ALL the dots

Amanda Moore

I always know when you guys are feeling a song when you turn the volume up!!

JoAnn Burrage

The trilogy Betty, Cardigan and August is insane and how Taylor is a genius at how she intertwines them together. Around 2:47 of August and Betty, she is telling James to get in the car. Then at 3:15 of Cardigan and Betty, Taylor is singing about James on the front porch. MIND BLOWN!!!

Talia Adams

Yes! One video of all 3 songs so that you can find the parallels in the songs. It can get confusion when swifties throw a lot of info at you so here’s the simple version: It’s a fictional love triangle about 3 characters - Betty, James, and Augustine. Each song is from one of their perspectives. James and Betty were together when James had a thing with Augustine. The song Cardigan is from Betty’s perspective Betty is from James’s perspective singing to Betty August is from Augustine’s perspective. That’s really all you need to know going into it but please please do it!!!

Katherine Heaney

Yesss we need the trilogy but ALSO we need Peter.

Melanie

Yes do all three!! August is a GREAT song, you’ll love it

Meg

I love how yall coordinate outfits. You will love the long pond studio session on Disney!

Crystal

August, Betty, Meh. The GOOD story is this sequence… 1.Cardigan 2.The One 3.Guilty As Sin 4.Peter 5.The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived

Shellbee

‘Leaving like a father, running like water’ Gets me every time.

Jessica Dodds

You have to listen to all 3 together! It will blow your mind

Meg

The Peter Pan reference is because Peter wanted Wendy to stay in Neverland with him and never grow up but she didn’t like how she was forced into the role of being a mother and wife so she left 🥲

Rachel

“…I knew you leaving like a father, running like water…” was always the lyric that killed me in this one. The trilogy would be fun to watch!

Kim

Listen to all 3

Claire Mullins

August is even better. Please do the trilogy. James sucks. 😂 I've grown to hate the song Betty even though it's really good bc James (the song is from his perspective) is so unsympathetic. HE NEVER EVEN SAYS "SORRY." He's just like "Oopsie, I'm only 17, idk right from wrong. 🙃" WTF JAMES.

Mollz

Love it!

Mel R

Yes we would like that thank youu 🫶🫶🫶

Lindsay

Also you have to listen to Peter from TTPD because also Peter Man 😉

K Clark

Yes, of COURSE we want you to do the trilogy! ❤️ August is my favorite song on the album. August (from Augustine’s perspective), Betty (from James’s perspective), and Cardigan (from Betty’s perspective). Taylor told Matty on stage at the Eras tour that Cardigan is about him. And I actually think Matty is Betty (he has a song called “when we are together” where he talks about her wearing *his* sweater). And I think Taylor is James (she was named after James Taylor in real life and she “came back” to Matty after she left him 10 years prior). Matty has also said in multiple interviews that he has a Peter Pan complex (Peter losing Wendy) . …But regardless of the “lore,” all three are amazing songs!

Becca Holmes

This album came out in 2020 when we were all doing some self reflection and reminiscing while we tried to cope with the pandemic and the loneliness it brought. That line "leaving like a father, running like water" destroyed me. I felt that, especially with the visual of the music video and how she presented herself while singing that (won't say more because I don't want to spoil) but the two together captures that feeling perfectly

TLo

I feel like y’all missed the part where she said, “leaving like a father….” that killed me! Yes please do all 3 songs. Remember this is her singing as an adult looking back on a betrayal that happened when she was young, in school. Love you guys!!

T

i can fix him no really i can fresh out the slammer peter

Sabrina Jones

The way she braces herself knowing a bridge is coming 🫶🏻 I LOVE this song!

Lynn

Yes please!!

Lynn

The music video to this is so good

Emaleah

Absolutely!

Jeanie

Yes!!

Kathy Gilmore

Yes please!!! All 3 songs in one video!!

K Clark

One of the things I love about this song is something that no one ever talks about: at the beginning when she says high-heels on cobblestones, which is something someone who is young and “doesn’t know anything” would do and when she says “vintage tee, brand new phone” - which speaks to teenagers - how they all wear these vintage tees but walk around on their “brand new” iPhones. It’s showing the perspective of adults looking at teens like “they don’t know anything in their vintage tees on their phones.” But she knew everything ❤️. And I think we really may know a lot more about love when we’re young and innocent/naive than we do when we get older. And I think “black lipstick” refers to her Rep era and “sensual politics” refers to her Lover era. And I think it’s speaking to the periods of time when she was originally in love with Matty (they met before Rep) - when she was “young” and they said “she knew nothing” and left him to be “better safe than starry eyed.”

Catherine

“Peter Pan! Peter Pan! Peter Pan and Wendy!” ❤️❤️❤️ love it so much!!!!!!

Chantille Hackett

So good! You should look up the story behind all 3 songs before you listen. It will help give some context to what the songs are about! Cardigan (Betty's perspective) Betty (James' perspective) August (Inez' perspective) It's a whole 3-party story in songs ❤️

bumblebee26

i would absolutely watch 4+ hrs of y’all reacting to her whole eras tour 😭

Rhodes

Absolutely!

Nicole

Yes!! Would love it!

Nicole

Yes!! Peter Pan and Wendy 💯💯

Bethany R

Please please do a reaction to her Dear John performance from the Speak Now tour. It’s a CLASSIC and such an amazing live vocal on a song that is lyric-ing 💜

Kim Adams

Thank you for this. Cardigan makes me cry every time I listen to it. I love this full length reaction video!

Dalton Lockridge

Her 1989 world tour have great vocals live give out of the woods and I knew you were trouble a look she kills those to me her best belt is don’t blame from reputation tour those are my top 3 live performances keep it I love yall keep it up

Amanda Lavigne

I do indeed understand the deepness. I’m with you Kaniyia. 🫠👍🏻

Jessica Stembridge

Ok, so hear me out… my recent Taylor rabbit hole is the Betty/August/Cardigan trio. I think James is Taylor, Betty is Joe, and August is Matty. Inez is the media. I’ve heard this theory before but had never listened for it. But wow I’ve been listening to those songs and reading the lyrics and 💯👌🏼 She is so clever! Also Joe co-wrote Betty with her, so there’s that 😅 And the cardigan is Joe’s. He didn’t give her the attention she needed so she’s discarded under the bed, and then Matty comes along and “puts her on”. In Betty she says “standing in your cardigan” and she’s talking about Joe. You have to reverse the genders on all those songs. I can’t unhear this now 😂

tay howley

You guys have GOT to do the trilogy!!!!!

Natalie Kirk

Yes. All songs. But definitely the trilogy (now that we think cardigan is about Matty Healy)

Cami Bolados

This is part of what taylor calls the “teenage love trangle” involving betty, james and augustine.. this one is from betty’s prespective.. betty is from jame’s and august from augustine’s 🥹🥹🥹 she is a genius

JP

Yall need to go watch the long pond sessions on Disney plus!!

Mills Lane

I adore watching Kaniyia make the connection with Peter Pan in this video! It also makes me excited for y’all to listen to “Peter” from TTPD. ❤️

LSB

Trilogy and august turned to illicit affairs on eras tour!

Danielle G

But does Terry understand the deep mess? 😆😆 love that ending

Bethany R

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE DEEPNESS <3 <3

Asta

“Peter” from her latest album is also about Peter Pan, with her being Wendy, waiting for him to come back.

Asta

While she was dating Matty Healy she also said to the camera at Eras tour that Cardigan was written about him.

Bailey Sanchez

Yessss!! Please do Betty, August and Cardigan all in one 🫶🏼 makes all three of them even better!!

Theresa Webb

LOL he don’t know Peter Pan wait until they get the whole thread tied into it now.

Theresa Webb

Yes I want to see you guys react. I’m old and you goes pick out things better than I can.

Candace Berger

Cardigan is really that girl. So thrilled to see you guys do my favorite song, it’s like listening to it for the first time all over again 💕

AmberHalo

Yes watch them all in one video!

Pamela

Please… watch Folklore the long pond session on Disney+. I promise you it will take you to another level! 🫶

Laura Cole

“Peter Pan! Peter Pan! Peter Pan and Wendy!” 🤣

Abigail

Please listen to Peter

Tonya

Yes yes yes do all three and then Peter!!!!!

Pamela Hart

Peter!!!!! This is the saddest line and Peter is the saddest song.

Samabelle

I’m here for Peter please

Autumn Sacramone

Please do the love triangle first then Peter!!

Justine

I love that I came here to mention Peter and everyone else already did 😂

Sam

Listening to this after TTPD makes me fear this indeed must be about Matty Healy

Larissa🌸🪩

You need to listen to "Betty" from Folklore because this is a follow up to it! This is from Betty's perspective!❤️

Savanna Greer

Every reaction right around the bridge when they realize she just keeps going she has more to say and they just look shocked makes me giggle every time its so funny

Kalynn

I would absolutely watch that! Cardigan is from Betty’s perspective, Betty is from James’s perspective, and August is from Augusta/Augustine’s perspective

Katy Magner

I love the way you coordinate your outfits to match each other! Don’t think I’m not noticing ❤️

Samantha Romero

I love the way you listen to music. I think every artist you listen to would also love the way you listen to music. You treat each song with such respect.

Kelsey Foster

I need a reaction video for when you learn this song and Smallest Man Who Ever Lived (& most of TTPD) is about the same guy

Sandra Davidson

James got off too easy. Betty and Augustine can do so much better lol.

Dana Michelle

Yall need to watch the music video. ❤️

Maddie

You guys should listen to Betty and August it’s a love triangle

April Verhagen

I love you so much!! I need a 2 hour recap of every line of this song. It’s staggeringly beautiful.

Alane Luzia da Silva

Betty, August and Cardigan are part of a trilogy. each of them tells the point of view of a character in a love triangle. you should listen together.

Michelle Nolan

Unfortunately, Cardigan is likely about ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’. She says that these are fictional Characters, but part of this is completely her story.

LeighAnn Cerra

I love you guys! You truly appreciate music and it's so beautiful to watch

AuthorTvillingsjelene

You kinda skipped it, but I think "leaving like a father" is one of the saddest lines in the song. If you had a father that left/abandoned you, you would feel that in your HEART

Erica Whittaker

I’ve always believed that “put me on” has the double meaning of wearing something comfy but also of lying. If someone “puts you on” they’re telling you a lie. He put her on and said she was his favorite, that makes me think the person has more sweaters in his rotation than just her, ya know?

mellaficent

Please listen to “Peter” from TTPD. It ties in with this song 🤎🩶

Maria

You are right. Peter never grew up, Wendy did. Peter stayed in Neverland.

Kristy

I completely missed the intro of high heels!!! Whattt!!!

DrEmily

K is so sweet going on about the lyricism. It’s so nostalgic with the imagery - black lipstick, sequin smile (wearing braces), lingering like a tattoo kiss, all so beautiful ❤️

Stacey

I think you guys would also like Carolina. She wrote it for the movie Where The Crawdads Sing

kaylei tompkins

I feel the “Peter pan Peter Pan” every time I rewatch 😂🫶🏻

Hadil Charafeddine

When she says “you put me on” she means putting on the cardigan but also “put me on” means lying to me so it has a double meaning :’)

Brooke

Thank you for loving this song the way it deserves! I felt those tears, Kaniyia... Years later I still can't hear this song without my eyes wanting to water

Lauren Tobey

On Peter Pan on Peter Pan it’s Peter Pan! My favorite reaction ever!!!
