Obsessed that you guys love Noah too! I always thought it’s like a conversation between two people who had this trauma /car accident years ago and how they dealt with it so differently. ‘Crows to you ’ I thought was like K said, are we just haunting you like a crow haunts the dead sort of thing. If you plan on listening to the full album after the next song, I recommend that the next song is NOT the View Between Villages because it is the most perfect closing song and is so much more impactful if you listen to it as the closing song to a full album. :) For the next song, you should do either Dial Drunk or Homesick I think!

I actually listen to this song as a conversation between childhood friends that went through something horrible together (a fatal car accident) and then responded differently, maybe grew apart and both held on to a lot of pain and resentment and guilt. “I wrote orange juice about 2 friends reconciling after years of being apart- a tragic accident that they went through kind of separated them and one person found religion and the other person stayed in the town where the accident happened and kind of just moved forward. It’s really a song about how trauma can bind you and how it can also separate you, and I always think that going through something traumatic should at least bring you closer to the person that experienced it with you and I think the hardest thing about that is sometimes it makes you go farther away and I wanted to write about two people coming back together after that time. I drew on a lot of the inspiration of my own life, my own struggle with addiction and alcohol, and friendships that I’ve lost and haven’t been able to maintain- and I wanted to create a story about two people that represented a lot of the challenges that I’ve gone through and that people in my life have gone through and that’s what Orange Juice is about at it’s core.”

All time favorite Noah song surprisingly doesn’t come from the stick season album. Maine is SPECIAL. Noah has stated it’s the only song of his he listens to. At the time he wrote it, he wasn’t sure if he still loved making music, and this song made him fall back in love with the process.
