what i like about gracie is that her breakup songs are different. Normally, people write about what the person did to them and how it made them feel. However, gracie writes about what SHE did to the person and how badly she feels after. You see this in a few of her songs where she says "I'm sure that I would like her if I were slightly nicer. Bet you wish you never even met me, I can't blame you broke your every heartbeat." Or even "you fell hard, I thought good riddance. I never was the best to you."

I interpret it as the bf is always telling her the fights are her fault and she says sorry to get back together. She says “I was a dick, it is what it is” — that’s the habit — to kick the age old curse (the curse is him leaving/them fighting). Making amends this shit never ends, I’m wrong again. I love you, I’m sorry. He tells her it’s always about her - trust me I know, it’s always about me- to deflect and make her the problem and she tries to speak in code—avoid that accusation. “Hope that I don’t, won’t, make it about me.” And all the apologies she didn’t owe haunt her and she’s “laying on the horn” - writing about it and making it known like she’s getting paid- to prove it. You were the best (in his mind) but you were the worst (for doing that) and she always loved him first but he never let her. It’s about trying to walk on eggshells to avoid another fight and apologizing to avoid the breakup when it’s all impossible to avoid. So now she doesn’t feel real, because she pretended she was the problem to appease him. She takes a joy ride down their road (the memories) and it haunts her about how she tried to bend to avoid the fights, and she told him the truth two augusts ago about it and he didn’t like it and left cuz in his mind he never did anything wrong and it was always her. She realizes that he just truly hates her and everything she does - and it causes fights - but not cuz she’s wrong. She slammed the door, and she remembers being thankful he didn’t send someone to kill her - because he honestly didn’t even like her no matter how hard she tried to change herself and not make it about her.
