According to an article I read in the NYT Florence has a strong diaphragm, large rib cage, a huge lung capacity, and vocal cords of titanium, which gives her a powerful voice and ability to carry notes for an insanely long time. Little trivia to share.

You should do all her albums! but from Ceremonials- What the Water Gave Me and No Light, No Light. Those songs really show how strong her voice is. You guys will LOVE the end of What the Water Gave Me! It’s amazing. I think No Light, No Light especially shows the power of her voice. Also, Delilah from How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful is really good. She actually has a short film with songs from this album. It’s called The Odyssey and it’s about 49 minutes. It’s so good.

I was so excited for you to hear it when I voted for Florence after you said you didn't know her during TTPD - her voice is stunning! As to seeing her live, it's even better than you'd think: I saw her back in 2009 when she (plus the Machine 😆) opened for Duran Duran at Edinburgh Castle. There was a torrential downpour right before they went on, and while they cleared the stage and rushed to turn off equipment, Florence came out to dance and sing in the rain. She REALLY went for it, spinning around, and it was SO cool. Their actual set was just as good (she also kept jumping around to splash in the puddles on stage - a precursor to Taylor's rainshows, haha). If you get a chance to see her live, I'd highly recommend it!

I don’t see any other people explaining, but I’ve always interpreted the dog days are over as a song about someone who ran from/avoided things (& people) that could bring her happiness, joy, peace and even did things to sabotage those things because she didn’t trust them and afraid. But then happiness/love still sneaks in, runs her over, hits her from her back, and then all she wants is everything with and from this other person. Dog days are hard days full of bad luck and other bad things (also sometimes sweltering, heavy, lazy days—like the dog days of summer). I think it’s also about being able to realize that it can be more comfortable to run from or avoid hard things and that loving someone and accepting good things is an act of bravery.

I think rabbit heart is also about fear, but more about florence being afraid of her kind of thrust into fame (king Midas was a king who turned everything to gold, but it was also a curse). Rabbit hearts race because they’re so scared and want to run away. Her fame is also a gift but she’s not sure what the catch is and how or if she’ll need to change. And I’m pretty sure *all* the harmonies are her layered over herself!

So your Taylor reactions are what brought me to you but I honestly think this is one of my favorite all-time reactions. I love this band — their sound is like no other and obviously Florence’s voice is otherworldly. Cosmic Love was the song that got me in to them and seeing you have the kind of response I did when I first heard it made me a bit emotional! Ceremonials is a fantastic album too so I’d be excited to see you react to it as well. If you can find a good quality video of one of Taylor and Florence’s performances of Florida!!! during the Eras tour, that would be fun to see you react to. As K doesn't even blink at his antics anymore lol. Once again, I am asking for a reaction to Fiona Apple 🥺 the live video of her covering “I want you” with Elvis Costello was my intro AND one of the best covers I have ever heard. Album wise, all great, but I think you’d like When The Pawn Hits. I think you’d like the song “Hot Knife” off a later album, too. I also suggest First Aid Kit. I think their harmonies will make you cry (and they’re sisters 😭💕).

I couldn't find if anyone mentioned where The Machine came from...it's the nickname of Florence's close teenage friend Isabella Summers aka 'Isa Machine' or 'the Machine'. She's a keyboardist and producer, and co-founded F+TM with Florence. She has some co-writing credits on some of the songs on Lungs.

I was 17 when this came out and I non-stop listened to Dog Days Are Over, Howl, Drumming Song, Cosmic Love, Blinding and You've Got The Love. They're still some of my favourite Florence + The Machine songs of all time. Florence gives me witch vibes, but in a good way. Kind of like Willow at the Eras Tour - Florence is that vibe but all of the time. She performs with no shoes and floaty dresses and stuff like that. Very earth goddess/green witch. From Ceremonials (next album and probably my favourite) Only If For A Night, Shake It Out, What The Water Gave Me, Never Let Me Go, No Light No Light, Heartlines, Spectrum and Leave My Body. How Big How Blue How Beautiful (3rd album) Ship To Wreck, Queen of Peace, Delilah, Long & Lost and Which Witch. High As Hope (4th Album) Hunger, Big God, Sky Full of Song and Patricia.
