Evermore is such a hit and miss for so many because they don’t understand the increased tempo for the bridge and it throws them off. The best way I describe it is the sombre feeling of a breakup where you feel like you can’t ever love again, followed by the anxiety of being alone and battling with if you try back to the relationship that broke you down because it’s better than being alone, or seeing that you can survive. Then it comes back to the realisation you’re actually going to be ok, as bittersweet as it all is. Evermore makes me cry every time I hear it. I’m a DV warrior, this song hits me perfectly in my soul. “Can’t remember what I used to fight for” takes me back to that isolation and loss of myself and the idea of having to rediscover that would give me so much anxiety. Such a beautiful song. You guys should watch her mash up from the Eras Tour Surprise Song set where she combines this with Clean (my all time number 2 Taylor song after Evermore), it is such a beautiful and empowering mash up. I bawled watching it over the grainy live stream haha r

Guys -- if you don't know who Karlie Kloss is you are still missing a MASSIVE part of the Taylor lore. I know a lot of people don't like to discuss Taylor's potential bi-sexuality but there is a lot of interesting links between songs that could be about Karlie, Diana Agron and so on and her strong relationships with them. (The links are sooooo obvious - the golden tattoo, stars around my scars, so much the era she documented her time with Karlie is written in to her love songs that are supposedly about her male suitors.) As a queer person, I don't believe in outing or forcing someone out - but I do think this is an interesting take and the queer swifties like imagining the songs this way!

I’m surprised you guys didn’t look up the meaning behind Evermore after the song! It’s more about mental health rather than love/relationships. To me, Evermore is about depression and even contemplating suicide- (letters addressed to the fire.”) But at the lowest of lows, you find that glimmer of hope and can get through it. Definitely a personal experience of mine. I tear up every time I hear the “when I was shipwrecked…” part. My husband and our young children are my “cracks of light” and I picture their faces every time. ❤️‍🩹

“Catching my death” is a saying my mum and grandma would say about putting on enough layers on a cold day. It’s an English saying I believe about catching a cold. Probably originally referring to catching pneumonia. “Barefoot in the wildest winter catching my death” is a devastating way to write about her deepest loss (which I believe was the loss of her masters)

Evermore was written during covid lockdowns so that might put the line “staring out an open window / catching my death” in some context for you. Same with “hey december guess I’m feeling unmoored / can’t remember what I used to fight for” because my December 2020 when this album came out, we were all feeling quite unmoored. That’s how I interpreted it anyway. 🧡

This may be my all time favorite TS song. The complexity of the bridge is astonishing- and the song's lyrics and melody are deeply moving. When Terry plays the keyboard and you two start singing- that is the special sauce! It's just so sweet when you two sing together. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet, but… am I the only one who thinks the song “Evermore” is about the period of time she went MIA after the Kanye/Kim drama? She had previously said she went to a really dark place in her head during that time. Just my thoughts on the lyrics.. “I’ve been down since July” - Kanye’s video for his song “Famous” came out end of June, where in it he calls Taylor a bitch. “Motion capture put me in a bad light” - in the video, he had wax figures of naked celebs in bed with him, including Taylor. “Replay my footsteps.. try to find the one where I went wrong” - everyone was hating on Taylor and she wonders where she went so wrong to make people suddenly turn on her. “Staring at an open window catching my death” - maybe feeling so depressed that there were moments where the thought of ending her life (jumping) crossed her mind. I could be reaching here. “Had a feeling this pain would be evermore” - she felt like she could never come back from this fall in her career “Can’t remember what I used to fight for” - feels like no matter how much she fought obstacles in her career and tried to defend herself during the Kanye/Kim drama it, was all for nothing. “Sending signals, to be double crossed” - when she and Kanye had “made up” after he hijacked her Grammy win, but then he called her a bitch without permission on his song and Kim recorded the convo but edited it to make Taylor look bad, thus betraying her trust. “Can’t not think of all the cost and the things that will be lost” - her career, her fans, her reputation “Can we just get a pause, to be certain we’ll be tall again” - her wanting a way to know for sure that if she risks going back out into the public eye to continue her career, will it backfire or will she stand tall again “violence of the dog days I'm on waves, out being tossed Is there a line that I could just go cross” - she’s going through so much hell from the fallout, wondering if there is one thing she could do to change everything and get her on the other side of all this. “When I was shipwrecked, I thought of you, in the cracks of light, I dreamed of you, it was real enough to get me through” - I think she’s referring to her future self, envisioning the Taylor we currently know her as, successful, back on top and happy again. Holding onto that image in her head of what she could be, gave her enough hope for her to find the strength and motivation to pull herself out of the darkness and come back stronger than ever. “I couldn’t be sure, I had a feeling this pain wouldn’t be evermore” - in the end, she realizes this is just a dark and painful chapter in her life but it won’t be forever. She will overcome it all. There are so many songs on the Evermore album that I love, but this one is hands down my favorite. It’s so vulnerable and hauntingly beautiful. Every time I hear it, I pause whatever I am doing to listen. Like I can feel her pain deep in my own chest.

I'm old myself but my Momma was born in 1920 and I grew up hearing "You're gonna catch your death". Didn't matter if you were out playing in the rain, walking through a puddle of cold water, outside in the wind or standing in front of an open window. We were gonna catch our death! I believe it comes from a time where colds caused alot of ppl esp children and elders to go into pneumonia. This was a time before penicillin. Hope this helps, Blessings and Angels

I just subscribed so I’m just watching this because I need to experience anyone’s first time listening to literally anything on evermore. But there is nothing like Evermore, a soul crushing and amazing song about perpetual sadness that really gets you in the feels every time you hear it.

When Terry said "it's like vampire diaries" during the last listen of evermore I almost died. Watching you guys react to that show would be soooo fun 😭 the writing on vampire diaries is literally like the only writing that's as dramatic and gutwreching with the twists and turns as Taylor's music 🤣 I had never thought that before but it's hilarious and true. I just joined to binge all your Taylor reactions, you guys are awesome 🥰
