This album 😭 it came out in 2009, but in 2012 it was a HUGELY cathartic album for me after my break up with my high school sweetheart. I was 22, and he kept telling me I had changed over and over again (when in reality, I was becoming an adult and finding out who I was while he refused to ever do things with me and only went out with his friends and refused to meet mine). I SCREAMED Playing God in my car for weeks when things finally came to an end.

This album reminds me so much of the Rumuors album by Fleetwood Mac. Came during out just before the bands break-up. Lots of subtly digs to the other band members. Couldn’t imagine how awkward it would have been to have to play Ignorance and Playing God knowing it’s about me 😆

Self titled album is next!! Y'all really have to go back and listen to their debut album All We Know Is Falling though, it's honestly so good and to see them grow from that as a band is incredible. And watch some of their live performances of AWKIF songs cause their stage presence is unreal from the start. Hayley is AMAZING live, there is nothing like it. I've been to a show with every single tour so far!

this is so personal and niche and idk if you guys will se this but riot was the first ever cd i bought (im 27) and paramore was one of the first foundational building blocks for me growing up. i forgot that misguided ghosts was on this album and when you got to that song tears started STREAMING down my face i was absolutely sobbing, that song was a huge part of my teenage years . im so grateful you did this album so i could reconnect to little me. thank you guys i love you

Paramore is unmatched. You don’t have to even like rock to have crazy respect for them. Hayley looks like a pretty, little butterfly and then comes out with the most giant, powerful voice. So much fun to see live!

So this album is definitely very personal to Hayley. Playing God especially was written about Josh Farro, because after they broke up, suddenly he tried to question all of Hayley’s character in a very public and disrespectful way. Often calling into question Hayley’s faith, and that really upset her. It was a pretty ugly breakup and it almost broke up the band at one point. In Playing God, Hayley is basically telling him, look in the mirror you’re being a hypocrite and I’m not the only one to blame for our relationship ending. Hayley talking her shit on this album a lot!!!😩🙌🏼 she also takes accountability in some of the songs, and taking account her own childhood and what she knows love to be. Very deep album and an absolute masterpiece. Thanks for doing this album guys! It made my whole day!😍🙌🏼 I’ll probably comment more. 🤣

When Hayley divorced her ex, she decided not to perform The Only Exception anymore. Until her and her bandmate, Taylor, who fans had shipped for many years because of their sweet chemistry and his undying support of her, finally officially began dating. PLEASE you have to watch a live video of them performing The Only Exception again after so long. Her therapist told her to try looking into his eyes when she sings it so she won't be triggered by her ex relationship, and the way he comes up front to play guitar and they stare right at each other while she sings the song as if there's no one else in the stadium with them is enough to prove to any disbeliever that love exists.

I feel like you need a Paramore historian to come in an explain all the songs to you with what's actually happening with the band at that time. This album is so shady and I love it. I would HIGHLY recommend listening to the albums in order so you can watch the way they change over time. Plus the music videos if you want more context (Playing God is a really good example). I love this - I'm so excited for you all to hear all their stuff!

next paramore is their self titled album. its like a rebirth for the band as the farro brothers (lead guitarist, and drummer) left the band after the tour of brand new eyes( zac the drummer came back in 2016). Id say paramore is split up between 2 different eras, before self titled and after.

I was at that Bonnaroo performance and this video muffles the audience (for good reason) cause the energy during this song was WILD. Like truly I have never felt more alive and connected with a crowd than during that first belt after the break. 85,000 attendees and it felt like all 85,000 showed up to scream that note. I cried.

Playing God is a song that I have always related to the way my church that I grew up in treated me when I had to go on birth control when I was diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOS. They and a lot of my family all were trying to force religion down my throat. Like, I already had my own personal relationship with God at that point. I didn't need to "pray more, be more positive, etc" like. WTF. And here I am, 13 years later😅

I think working from their oldest to their newest would be the best way to see how Paramore’s sound evolves. It’s like they take a little bit from the last album and twist it into something new. The biggest jump being from Self Titled to After Laughter, as far as production and sound being different.

From Hayley: “A brick is such a traditional, tired and plain boring representation of solidity. I wanted the whole song to have this sort of fairy tale vibe… only to twist the point I’m trying to make in the song which is, ‘Stop living in a fake fairytale… like, WAKE UP!’ When thinking how I could really get that across in the song I decided I’d use a house. I just showed my dad (a musician of 50 years who worked in the concert industry for 30+) All I Wanted, both studio & live at Bonnaroo, and he said Hayley is "incredible" and "an absolute talent." It doesn't sound like much without the context of how my dad communicates, but he was really impressed & meant it as high praise, and I'm sure he'd have more to say after a few more listens. He even said we should go to a Paramore concert, but I think he might be a bit too old for all that, lol.

I was in college when this album came out and it was the perfect album to cope with changing friendships and f**kbois and realizing I could be my own person. This album was angry and bitter, and “Careful” is just an explosive opener with an ominous undertone. An opening track like that just makes all the rest of the album work so much better. Like, half the songs on this album, on their own, I could take or leave. But taken together it was such a MOMENT. (And I still rip “Playing God” regularly to work out my rage at ::gestures broadly at world events::)
