The “sing” in unison 🥹 This is one of my favorite albums of all time!!

Isabel Victoria

Not to be crude, but deathless death I think is referring to the big O 🥲 Sometimes that’s called the “little death”.

Riclyn Sherman

I really hope yall catch his tour! It’s transcendent - his vocals and live performances are INSANE

Erica Van Pelt

“What the fuck? What kinda books he reading??” I’m dead

K Clark

I think deathless death is heaven - like, saying how the Catholic Church says if you follow us and are a part of this, you’ll go to heaven when you die. I think he’s talking about issues he has with the Catholic Church being judgmental (tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife…the high horse, etc). I think he’s saying he’d rather worship his lover than subscribe to a religion that is judgmental. Just my thoughts / interpretation

Brenda

Requesting part 2 and 3 and 4 if needed!! This has been on repeat since I first heard it in 2015. Loving the reaction 😍

I read that when he was young his dad had a side job as a jazz and blues drummer. I’m curious how much that influences his own style.

Ashley

Obsessed with this album!! Ready for part 2 already 🤩

Emily Smith

deathless death is a reference to 'petit mort', or 'little death' in French, which is a reference to an orgasm. : )

Emily Smith

also, take me to church is a commentary on the hypocrisy of the Irish Catholic Church.

Hannah

Truly one of my favorite albums ever

Paul Schierbaum

They’re going to pass out when they hear Cherry Wine and Work Song lol

Martina S.

I feel like some of the ai summaries aren’t quiteeee right for his meanings

Martina S.

Guys this is amazing I love it so much!!

tavi 🦀

I like “his melodies are simple” right before the chorus hit of “Someone New” 😅

Katie

One of the biggest things to know about Hozier is he is very vocally progressive, so his songs have that theme throughout them. It will help with the analysis of his lyrics 🥰

Tate

It's so hard to pick just one! I can't wait for y'all to listen to "In a Week" and "It Will Come Back"

Lucy P

JACKIE WILSON was an R&B singer who sang 'Loney Teardrops' and 'Your love keeps lifting me higher and higher' .... thus honoring him by naming the kids Jackie and Wilson :)

Krista

one of my fave albums of all time!!! MMMF, cant wait till yall hear the rest!!!

Skyler Thompson

this is one of my fav albums of all time

Ren

Wow as much as you enjoyed this portion of the album it's about to escalate after this lol. Literally each song better than the last. Incredible album, I can't wait for the rest of it.

Chip Tovey

Take Me To Church is an ode to the evils of the Catholic Church from the writer’s perspective. The song plays on themes of the churches judgment, especially pointed towards same sex relationships. The phrases about being born a certain way reference that specifically. He’s sarcastically saying offer me that deathless death, let me give you my life, because he’s an atheist that doesn’t believe in it. Also, and especially true in the Middle Ages, the church amassed great wealth, but wasn’t doing much to help the people. They were liars who sat in judgment over the flock, and in fact stole from them from their tithes, and held themselves as superior to them, which is exactly what the high horse reference. The innocence of their gentle sin is about their sexual relationship that the church says is sinful. Again, this primarily references a same sex relationship, because the video clearly has two men having sex. The song is a great song, performed well, but it is sacrilegious beyond any recorded song I’ve ever heard.

Emily

Work Song will forever be one of my favorite, if not my favorite, Hozier song. Cherry Wine and Shrike (next album) are also both just so soulful and amazing. You two HAVE TO see him life, you’ll sob

Morgan

Someone New is such a bop!!!

Morgan

Love this 🫶🏻

Riclyn Sherman

Brianna Pop

desperately need y'all to finish the album!! "work song" is my favorite song of all time.

Brianna Pop

then listen to wasteland baby! you're gonna love it

Amelia

Work song is my absolute favorite on this album. Also yall need to watch the video for Take Me to Church! It adds so much context for the lyrics yall were confused on.

Gio

I need Work Song and From Eden

Kayla

I would give ANYTHING for you guys to react to the Take Me To Church music video. It's heart-wrenchingly beautiful and gives a whole new meaning to that song

Jessica Whitney

Take me to church is an excoriation of the Catholic Church. His response to the sex abuse scandal and their stance on the LGBTQIA community. “We were born sick, you heard them say it.”
