Oh my God, Miranda, Martina, Tyler AND Celine in one video?!? Is this my birthday?!? I knew y’all would love Miranda - and that’s not even her best vocals, by far. She’s an artist’s artist - early in her career she was making more radio bangers and now she’s doing the coolest, most interesting stuff. She’s a fantastic songwriter and even better storyteller - there is something about the way she sings that just makes it feel so authentic. I used to live near where she grew up - when I moved there, I’d been listening to Miranda for 10 years and it felt like a totally familiar place, even though I’d never even been to Texas at all before. It felt like living in a Miranda Lambert album. HIGHLY recommend the entire Weight of These Wings album. I honestly can’t say she’s ever made a bad record. And oof, don’t even get me started on Tyler Childers. There are some of his songs that would absolutely SEND y’all. I gotta recommend “Way of the Tri’une God.” Especially a live performance of it. He just gets possessed by music, he is so so so good. He got clean and sober since that “Feathered Indians” performance, too, and is better than ever. Y’all would love his song “Bitin’ List” 😂 He is a true poet of Appalachia. I love him so much 🥹 Celine and Martina… whew y’all really overwhelmed me on this one. Those two women raised me 😫

There are many singers in this world, but Celine is the only one who really encompasses vocals as a legitimate instrument. And I’ll die on that hill. Michael Bolton was the male counterpart to Celine in this era of music, he does the male version of this song and I love it personally. He also has song great tracks.

Only songs I could get through were the country ones and Celine. I just can't do the rest. Kudos to you all for getting through those. Tonight was a tough listen for me, not because of Martina, but the other ones. Not my jam. Maybe we could break these into more cohesive listening. That's not a dig, just a suggestion on how to have amore cohesive listening experience. I found it really hard to get into this video because I was so turned off by the other songs. Again, just a suggestion to make the experience more enjoyable.

Oh man remembering just how devastatingly sad Concrete Angel is. The way I listened to that song way too young as a kid and it didn't hit me until much later in life what she was talking about so once I did I actively stopped listening to it cuz it hits you so hard. 😭 On a lighter note, I think my fave sombr single has to be 12 to 12 cuz it's so catchy so I hope that gets to be the song you hear next if you listen to him again. It's a vibe. Also, twenty one pilot's cover of Seven Nation Army that they did at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction for TWS might be one of my fave covers of all time. Oop there it is 😭 Concrete Angel hits hard for me, as this is my line of work. I work with severely abused or neglected kids that are not compatible with foster care etc due to their significant trauma which then stems to significant developmental delays and again stems to significant and at times high risk behaviour. Thinking of the kids I’ve built special relationships with not being here, due to the actions of the adults that were meant to protect them the most, wrecks me. But it also drives me to give them as much guidance, hope and faith I can pour into them, so they know do not have to repeat the cycle into their adult lives as either perpetrators or victims of abuse and neglect. Sending love and hugs because this song is brutal. Time to take a month off the gut wrenching music, it’s the holidays and we’re meant to be happy x love you guys

Hide n Seek was popular in the early 2000s because it was used in a pivotal scene in a TV show that was very popular at the time but it’s not even my favorite song of hers. I heard Concrete Angel in a store the other day and thought about the poll for this post. I didn't think I'd ever heard the song, but it was familiar, but I'd definitely never seen the video before 😭 Country especially tends to sing a lot about domestic violence, maybe because it's more prevalent in that particular demographic, but there's definitely a lot of sad country songs in this vein. I think if we're gonna request more songs like this, we need to give T&K a warning of what it's about (domestic violence, child abuse/death, death in general, substance abuse, whatever) so they don't have to go in totally blind, because that makes it feel like a setup and it's kind of cruel to have that be their first exposure to an artist. Martina is an amazing artist but we definitely need to recommend some happier songs of hers, and happier country songs in general. Another thought I had during this video: I've never heard The 1975 before and it made me think of the band Stars and now I just wanna go listen to that band, lol.

**TRIGGER WARNING** Concrete Angel is about a little girl who is being abused and everyone turned the other cheek. The teachers noticed but didn't ask. The neighbors heard the crying in the middle of the night but went to bed anyway. "When morning comes, it'll be too late" is implying that the abuse went too far that night and she was killed. The White Stripes lore is interesting. They were married but told everyone they were brother and sister so that people wouldn’t focus on their relationship. But they’re such a legendary duo and Jack White is such an icon. Eventually Meg left the group because she didn’t really like touring or the fame. Please listen to their other songs. I think it's where a lot of my empathy comes from, because that video would just be in the mix on CMT on a normal day before school.
