I've had a few questions come my way about the story in Science of Double Negatives. I thought a quick explanation from the creator might help readers see it in a new way, so here are some cliff-notes!

**SPOILERS BELOW FOR TALES FROM THE CRIB KEEPER 13: The SCIENCE of DOUBLE NEGATIVES**

I felt like the story as a whole can be interpreted like the title itself from a mathematical viewpoint- that adding two negatives yields a positive. (A result that is unlike the original and doesn't seem to make sense without a deeper understanding.) The 2 negatives being the pregnancies and the positive being the returned soul of Dr. Kathleen Quinnlan. (more on her below) Did you notice the visuals of an "equals" and "positive" sign at the end? these symbols in order were found in the comic (- , - = + )

So, the 2 "mothers" are meant to be dead now. I thought the best way to do that in this particular comic series... keeping this audience in mind... would be to suggest it rather than show it ("it" being a newborn baby killing the mother and doctors) Even coming out and explicitly spelling it out clearly seemed like that would be both overkill and a buzzkill.

The main characters are really meant to be representative of humanity and not so much specific characters. The whole angle of the story is playing off the idea that pursuing and experimenting and pushing the boundaries with stuff you don't understand is dangerous and in the upper levels of fields like science, engineering, bio and genetic engineering, testing ideas unethically can be super dangerous- even lead to the extinction of the human race. Ian Malcomb's line from Jurassic Park was in my head a lot while creating this comic- "The scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they forgot to ask if they should."

Dr. Kathleen Quinnlan

Her name is almost directly from Event Horizon's doctor, Dr. Kathleen Quinlan because the two stories have a lot of semblance- going into the unknown and bringing something evil back.

When she is regressed to the point of being unborn, her soul is lost to the unknown..."Life before Life". In the story, it turns out that the unknown is something evil and deadly, like Hell. When Kathleen Quinnlan and her soul are split between the 2 women's wombs, something has room to attach, or insert itself into the returning bodies of Dr. Quinnlan much like a demon possession. She refers to herself as the Queen of the Damned because the human race is now damned and she will be the cause of their destruction.

This ending plays out sorta quick and veiled because of the nature of this comic series. I can't focus as much time or page space into story as I need to put into visual fetishy material. Occasionally, I like to try implementing novel-type storylines into these comics. I recognize that some people like the storylines to be basic and I understand why, but I think ultimately a little "protein in the diet" makes for a better balanced series. What's your take- do you like the occasional thought-provoking/ explanation-needed story in your fetishy-content comic? Or do you prefer it not to be mentally taxing?

Jim Moriarty

I honestly loved this story. The horror themes hit just right for me.

Honestly, I only read these comics for the content and simple stories, I don't care much for so much thought prodding. That being said, you certainly succeeded in creating a horror story and it was hot from beginning to end. All-in-all, this story was a good one.

This was a good one, and I think the ending was the right call for the format you’re working in. If you were devoting an entire comic to the story, there could have been ways to do an “on-screen” end for the two “mothers”, but at this length what you did worked very well.

For a longer story ending, my personal preference would be for Dr. Quinnian’s new forms to steal the mothers’ ages, unbirth them and regress them out of existence, sending them to experience what she’d been through firsthand, but in a way that they won’t be coming back from. Also, I think that this has a lot of potential to be an “origin story” for a villain of future regression horror tales.

I actually got most of the story from the past, and really had a blast with the story elements in this particular piece. Like your tales of 7, there was more bite to it and it helped add the character moments super well with the changes occurring. The fact they did it to themselves ws great, though the double negatives might have been a little stretched at times. Clever? Absolutely! However, the meaning on a pregnancy test is a little bit of a contradiction that can throw things off. The final part was very good from the top of the panel for me and the nature was very good. Nice job on the censorship. However, my personal interests would have wanted a little more of the pregnancy progression before the delivery. Overall, I think it is great to have these tales when you make a little more element into caring about the characters, and having a delicious moment to expand on something else. Great work

Oh yeah, that could have been a good ending! I would have felt it necessary to show the unbirths and regressions in detail so it would've gotten much lengthier but I do like the concept

Yeah, I would've liked to do more emphasis on the pregnancy expansion if I had another page to play with! Made me want to do another GoF or another Halloween costume kind of comic

Yeah, that need for detail is why I put that idea as being for a longer story, but I’m glad you liked it. Who knows, there may be another opportunity for something along those lines in the future.
