Well it is a different time line in this strory which from the kumoko(spider) side (past) and shun(human) side (currently) as I have mentioned in the comment at episode 9-10 there a lot of crue that will give you a hint in this story. You will get more clear picture of whole story when you watch all of this in the seconds time.

The hints were all throughout the early episodes, but I think B&S went through a delay between reactions on those episodes, so I think it's easily missed if you don't remember every little detail. But the future/past difference in time is said outright in the episode where the old wizard guy tells the story of meeting the Nightmare of the Labyrinth 15 years ago; followed by a flashback of his group fighting Kumoko. So that one they missed the connection on. All the back and forth cuts of these later episodes must be hella confusing without that one fact in mind.

All students reincarnated at the same time. But humans have baby period, so they cannot do anything. And Kumoko (spider) can grow faster than human. Therefore, Kumomo's story is 15 years before Shun (the human)'s story
