Just to give a Comparison about the Differences from the Light Novel and Anime adaption with just this first Episode: Biggest Thing of all, the Anime immediately starts almost in the middle of Volume 1, ignoring over 150 pages from the book and letting out various things like at the start of the Book when they were in school, later got teleported to Tortus, and other such Things. -The Anime omits Hajime killing a monster in the 1st floor of the Great Orcus Labyrinth. -In the Light Novel, the monster that Hajime and others fight in the 20th floor of the labyrinth is a Rockmount. In the Anime, is a humanoid lizard that is covered in fur. -The Anime omits Meld scolding Kouki after killing the monster on the 20th floor, due to using a powerful spell in a confined space. -The Anime omits Kouki attempting to destroy the Behemoth with the spell "Divine Wrath." -In the Light Novel, the bridge the Hero Party is teleported to does not have a guardrail. In the Anime, it does. -Meld's subordinates are not named in the Anime. -In the Light Novel, Meld's subordinates are the ones that cast the barrier magic "Hallowed Ground" against the Behemoth. In the Anime, Meld is the one who casts it. -In the Light Novel, Hajime jumps on top of the Behemoth in an attempt to further slow it down by transmuting the bridge around its entire body. This does not occur in the Anime. -The Anime omits Hajime drying off his clothes using fire magic, after landing in the abyss. -In the Light Novel, Hajime doesn't know of the names of the Divinity Stone and Ambrosia prior to his encounter with Yue. In the Anime, he first learns about them while he is studying in the Heiligh Kingdom's royal library. -In the Light Novel, the meeting between Kaori and Hajime takes place at an inn run at Horaud Town and happens the previous night before the incident occurs. In the Anime, it takes place in Hajime's room in the Royal Palace and occurs six days before the training at the labyrinth takes place. -Hajime's meeting with Kaori in his room is longer in the Light Novel. -In the Light Novel, Hajime kills the Twin-Tailed Wolves by encasing them in the wall with his "Transmutation" while hiding from their sight, and then stabs them afterwards. In the Anime, Hajime lures the wolves into a pitfall trap and then filling it up with earth before stabbing them. -In the Light Novel, Hajime knows that eating monster meat is lethal to humans, but forgets this fact due to his intense hunger. In the Anime, Hajime doesn't know this until after he eats the Twin-Tailed Wolves. -The Anime omits Hajime luring the Kickmaster Rabbit with water and electrocuting it with his "Lighting Field," before killing it.

The LN author was a big fan of the chuunibyou trope, which is good to know for the tone of the show. The MC is basically the precursor to Cid Kagenou from Eminence in Shadow, but with more angst. Also, the CGI from S1 is considered some of the worst in the industry, almost comically so - but that almost adds to the charm.

The entire Anime Adaption is so bad that the Author wrote in Social Medias that when he got the Script for it he wanted to puke, so bad did he thought it was.
