The Author ( Fujino Ōmori ) calls the Elves Magic actually "Fantasy Magic" which is as stated in the Anime unique to Elves that allows them to turn their fantasies into reality. Initially, Wignall lacked skill in using it, causing his magic to just be harmless illusions, but after overcoming his fear with Will's help he is now able to use Fantasy Magic properly and manifest it in physical Form (as we saw with the Trees he created to defeat the Balkar) They might name it in the translations "Illusion Magic" to make it a bit easier to understand ^^
