USA! USA! USA!

On this edition of Watch This, the boys watch the DESERT STORM match for the first time. This is a street fight between Hulk Hogan and super evil bad guy, Sgt. Slaughter! Slaughter has turned his back on America, and Hulk Hogan is here to fight for the rights of every man. He doesn't give a damn about the WWF title, and he will make sure you know that multiple times in this match!

This doesn’t work me brother or maybe it does.

Tom The Gabagool Alfredo

I think Krule should wear this Hogan gear from now on. Or maybe he shouldn't, brother.

geeman360

It really is an up in the air thing here dude!

geeman360

Hogan has the Karrion Kross mask on in the Nickelodeon slime colorway

Illustrious Zero

No one ever talks about how T-Shirt under Singlet is insane. Slaughter is a mad man for that.

bonerific

damn that match was kinda bad

Stop the Matsunaga

That was really fun! Slaughter's exhaustion selling is better than most wrestlers today. Y'all should check out Slaughter vs. Iron Sheik in their Boot Camp match from '84.

Monk E. Dangerously

Heels don't stooge like that for babyfaces anymore, Slaughter made that match great.

gwar 666

That was a young Jim Duggan in there getting the rub, brother. I taught him his whole USA gimmick, dude.

Mah-Dry-Bread

Man that fireball throw was perfect!

Osmomandias

This was a fun match ngl

Veeeeeeeera

This is historically notable as a clash between two of the guys who did the USA gimmick the hardest (the Patriot, Duggan, and Angle also on the list of course), but of two major babyfaces who kept missing each other in the 80s; Slaughter leaves the WWF about a year after Hogan comes back after being their ersatz top babyface over that span (arguably bigger than Backlund), and goes to the AWA which is where Hogan had been before. Truly words colliding.

Veeeeeeeera

Legitimately one of the best matches in company history, like top ten easy to this day

Veeeeeeeera

And remember dude to finish the whole quart, cuz the enemy jabronis can hear water sloshing around in a half full canteen brother

Clay Goodman

Let's go!!! Old glory style!!!

Go Hang A Salami I'm a Lasagna Hog

This is after Slaughter lost the title to Hogan at Mania 7; a Mania so bad they had to move it from the 100,000+ seat LA Coliseum to the 17,000 seat LA Sports Arena. WWF said they moved it because Slaughter death/bomb threats but it was really because they couldn't sell tickets; by the time they moved venues only 12,000-15,000 tickets were sold.

Go Hang A Salami I'm a Lasagna Hog

When I was a shitty little kid I thought anything pre-attitude era sucked until I saw that match and it opened my eyes to old school wrestling.

KODIAK

Pat Patterson v. Sgt. Slaughter Boot Camp match is also a classic!

Gerard Smith

Hogan seems legitimately pissed off before during and after the match. I'd say he's just working but I know he isn't that good of an actor. I wonder what happened?

BigJ

If you want more Sgt Slaughter stuff to watch, here's Sgt Slaughter having a tug of war match with Big Foot the monster truck. https://youtu.be/ZN5IPGuvbrs

Pat_Mashants

That Kid climbed the rope ladder at USS Pearl Harbour with Jesse Ventura BROTHER!!

Felsin

Thanks for all you do boys. Cause in no world would I be watching this otherwise.

PT

I had seen this before and thought little of it, but now with a little more context it's absolutely insane. And Hogan is throwing better fireballs than against WARRIOR. Even though I really hope that first fireball didn't scorch someone's eyebrows in the front row.

James Brannan

he's pissed that an American hero like Sgt. Slaughter would turn his back on our proud nation

BigJ

Hogan's gear here is pretty fucking awesome.

rkb

ME AND THE DICKTATOR ARE GONNA TAKE DOWN SADDAM DUDE

Master Bae Shaun

Coke in the eyes to start the match is crazy.

TravisBroski

Slaughter falling back with the chair is insane, either that really was the plan to randomly sell Slaughter's exhaustion, or Hogan was meant to knock him down, forgot, and commentary came in clutch saying he couldn't hold up the weight of a single chair

JawnnysPenisNamedMacGruberCauseHesNeverSeenIt

When the first shot of Hogan came up and all you could see is his eyes, I thought he was on that shit. Then he threw it into Sarg’s eyes and I screamed “I FUCKING KNEW IT”

Happy Tiger Snugglefur

Honestly not as bad as I thought it would be, never realized what an amazing seller Slaughter was, Hogan's Gear was pretty sick, and the fireball spot was one of the cleanest I've ever seen!

Happy Tiger Snugglefur

Seeing Sargent Slaughter bleed like that and take those post bumps reminded me of his match against Pat Patterson, Deadlock should definitely do a watch this for their alley match from 81, easily one of the bloodiest matches in wrestling Pre Muta-Scale.

HyenaBrain

The boys watching classic wrestling has been some of my favorite stuff, so sick

WWF No Mercy

Worth noting that this match happened 6 months after the war ended

Real North Carolina judge Dick Boner

I just realized why this match looks so weird to me. It's early 80's presentation in 90's WWF. I guess this is an MSG thing, all the WWF on MSG shows looked like this.

ConsulttheBones

I love the USA so much I'm dropping 12 to 6 knees on the title belt

The one called Clamps

Little man being a veteran almost made me spit my drink out #whatthedogdo

D.J.O.

This match wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be….who am I? Lol

ceeankay

Yo, I completely fuck with Sarge at the end of the match; the heel not accepting defeat, bloody, held back, trying to get into the ring at any cost to beat Hulk's ass. More people should do that.

Mad Pretty

You used to be able to buy packs of cigarettes out of these lowboy vending machines that were at every bowling alley and arena and almost never watched over.

the big amish nick kurtz

you know i guess i have never really thought about it before but cigarette vending machines being relatively common is actually insane. we gotta go back

Requiem

I'd highly recommend Sarge's Boot Camp Match with Iron Shiek for a Watch This ep. Not quite as crazy as this but a great contrast to see how he works as a face in this sort of match. It's free on youtube if you search "Sgt. Slaughter Boot Camp Match"

Cali Jester

We need more wild Hogan matches on here. Hogan 12 to 6'ing the WWF title on the concrete was hilarious.

Biffomet

Hogan was the original Killshot, brother

Gerard Smith

I'm re-watching this and it just dawned on me what Hogan having the belt means. This took place on June 3rd 1991, the Gulf War ended February. Vince really wanted that war to go on for longer didn't he?

D.J.O.

These guys had me thinking he was gonna fuck up the kid in the ring lmao
