Revisiting XWF 2001 Episode 2, Rena Mero & Roddy Piper Power Struggle + Best Tabletop Games

Roddy accused Russo killing Owen Hart on TNA a few years later

I willingly sat through this XWF episode for the boys and...ugh. It just committed every cardinal sin of that era of pro wrestling. Why not have one authority figure (who can't cut a promo) when you can have TWO? Why is Greg Valentine on my screen? Why is a goddamn Nasty Boy telling me NO PRIMADONNAS? Will pro wrestling ever give up attempting to push GIANT PEOPLE with no charisma? And the finish to the main event was absolutely hilarious in all the wrong ways. Seriously, it was like anyone attempting to make a fresh product (exception: ROH) in that era just assumed "COPY WWE" was the best way to go and shock and awe, they all FAILED.

I don't know which was more egregious, the fact AJ Styles was rendered at 5 frames per second like he's Matt Hardy V1's titantron, the Jimmy Hart version of "Last Resort" over his promo, or the fact that the show just loved using the same stock disappointed crowd noise after impactful moves and it was incredibly noticeable

Chute and ladder your ass out of here dude

Nagata vs Cro Cop was at the height of Inokiism aka when the business was REAL and NJPW made NO MONEY

Paul Mikesell

I’d buy a dvd hosted by the boyz reminiscing about DPW Fire. And there is a Thunder in the last year of WCW with a random Johnny B Badd match

Jack La Piana

The tabletop segment was the craziest segment ever

tkdwn.

PRIDE FC MENTIONED! also, i need y'all to watch that crocop/nagata match. AND when crocop showed up in HUSTLE. right leg hospital, left leg Patreon shoutsout hell

It's great seeing another review for the XWF, shows like these are a nice change of pace from the usual WWE/WCW/TNA reviews, I still love those but I like the idea of you guys covering more obscure content like this, I'm sure Wrestllicious, AWF, Herb Abram's UWF and even that Lucha Show that MTV aired for a few weeks would have some hilarious insanity perfect for the podcast.

If the "Top 5 favorites" segments become a fixture for the podcast, might I recommend calling it "That's my favorite!"
