This week’s bonus features writer and rail engineer Gareth Dennis (@GarethDennis), host of the Rail Natter YouTube show, discussing the current state of British trains. The Tories are ideologically opposed to state capacity, sure, that’s table stakes, but did you know that Labour also promise to not fix the unavoidable problems with the UK’s rail network? Shocking, we realise. Also, we discuss a mental health startup.

Tommy Gerez

I love both the Free One and Bonus voices and also long episodes!

Gary Howard

Maritime journo here - the beauty of the rail line to Felixstowe is that the passing loops are significantly too short to allow efficient operation at the port. A port operator told me they have been trying to get the government to look at it properly for well over a decade. Luckily, there is the fallback solution of the absolutely bulletproof and carbon efficient *checks notes* A12 and A14.

LISTENER: we all forgot to Barnabas Biblebobs my name.

Andy C

This episode should be called “derail natter”

rebekah

me and a colleague found out a few weeks ago that Chamillionaire describes himself as a venture raptivist in his insta bio and have not shut up about it since

Clara

Controversial take: like the bonus voice, hate the free one voice

Tom Moffat

I think it was this episode, I think I know the YouTube channel that Riley keeps getting recommended. Was it Trek Trendy? Because I keep getting recommended it as well and it probably says a lot about my interests

Martin

I don't care how much it costs I will buy an Obvious Fraud Office windbreaker. I will buy two. Give me the windbreakers, please.

Oliver Cant

Honestly, the day I unsub will when you STOP doing the bonus noise. It's the one of the best bits. I don't even care if people come onto the Patreon feed for the first time not knowing what's going on. If you've got a sense of humour to begin with, you'll go along with it. The Hogs demand the moans! 🐖🐷🐽

LaboratoryXI

Personally I find the "Bonus" noises both off-putting and hilarious. Keep up the goo(f)d work!

Broth Mirepoix

Mark me down as a bonus moan-enjoyer

Man2quilla

I'm sorry, "Dom Cummings???" I'm late to British politics, ig

Eric Adams (German)

I have to say, I love the bonus voice. It helps me start my day.

Paul Rogers

Riley and Alice are wrong! I LOVE THE BONUS VOICE TOO!

Andrew Davis

I like the bonus voice, but mainly because it irritates Riley. Ditto for the free one.

Frontlinecaster

For the record as a long time listener the bonus voice is the only reason I am subscribed to the Patreon. Please do not look at my profile for all of the other Trashfuture adjacent podcasts I also subscribe to.

BilboGubbinz

Shocked and ashamed that my favourite podcast missed a chance to make a Virgin Technicals joke. C'mon lads (and lass), this isn't the quality content I pay the big bucks for!

A Sentient Mongoose

THERE'S A SINGLE TRACK TO FELIXSTOW??? It's been a long time since I've been jokerfied by an episode but WHAT

Nuke's Audios

bonny

Full time Gareth! Full time Gareth! Full time Gareth!

Andrew Davis

One of the Channel Islands still has a railway. I reckon the gang could probably buy a concession with our Patreon money. I think it's barely 5 miles long, but that just means none of Milo's bits will go stale in the dining car.

wokkawokkawokka

If Milo doesn't do the bonus voice then it won't feel like a Wednesday And it is Wednesday my dudes

Man, I Got Nothing

Plot twist: they give all the freight to the narrow boaters and put the canal and river trust in charge of British freight.

Daniel Lawther

oooh fuck yeah bonus voice, that's just what i needed

Al

I honestly don't know which is worse, a scab union or a police union.

George Jefferies

As a listener, I love the bonus voice (and the free one bit), but mostly because Riley expresses his hatred for it every time and is powerless to stop it.

Lumpentheorist

I love the bonus voice so much! Once it was established, I upped the patreon tier immediately. I will not elaborate further.

Cat Collins

I recognize and appreciate the bonus voice as an effective marketing scheme.

default_playername

No, Riley--only you hate it. It has been missing from most recent bonus episodes and I have been disappointed each and every time.

Zeroisanumber

I remember Gareth from the time he went on WTYP and managed to shock Liam into total silence by reciting a (I think Bobby Burns) poem.

Andy Curtis-Brignell

I for one welcome the bonus voice, and encourage it to go further

James Taylor

I have missed the dulcet tones and sheer eroticism of the bonus voice.

Cleo

I love the bonus voice!

zezzene

What was the big tally mark in the "we were wrong column" they were referring to?

Whisky_Delta

I, a listener, support Bonus Moans

Magnus Cooper

Mitchell Harrison

This listener is always here for the bonus voice

Are people put off by the episodes being too long? I basically can’t get enough. 1 hour, 2 hour, all good!
