This drama is set between the 1920s and 1930s, before the Japanese invasion began. Japan started its occupation of Northeast China in 1931, and launched the full‑scale war of aggression against China in 1937. At that time, Nanjing was China’s capital, which led to the Nanjing Massacre. Over 300,000 civilians and disarmed soldiers were killed in the Nanjing Massacre. China did not achieve victory until 1945, when Japan finally surrendered.
