I watched this on my own and finished on July 5th, and somehow I am not ready to rewatch it yet, but I really wanted to check what your thoughts were on this drama as a whole. My favourite scene of the finale might be the one after Empress Dowager's death when the music of the drama's theme song started — it got louder with the chanting in the background, and the camera moved to Lishan Academy, which lit up from the sunbeams as the children who used to study there were reciting the teachings of wisdom, sincerity, and other virtues... It almost felt as if Lishan Academy could finally breathe again once she was dead. A really masterful scene. I got goosebumps there. But talking about the drama overall — one of the most memorable scenes for me was when everyone finally found out that Xiuyao could walk again. It was that combat scene where he started in a wheelchair, took everyone by surprise, and later even fought that general from Princess Lingyun's delegation. But what I can't forgive to the plot, is Princess Lingyun's death. I was in denial until the last second of this drama, as I thought they might have faked her death, and she would reappear and be happy with Mr Feng. Which only leaves me relieved that they didn't kill Mingxi, who was one of my favourite characters (and remembering he was terrible little Sui in PoJ — oh, I can't wait to see more of Lin Muran's dramas in the future!). Overall, I think the drama was very well wrapped up with only a few loose ends, but those can easily be left to our imagination. However, my final grade was lower than yours, maybe because in the end this drama didn't particularly grow on me. It had its twists — and good ones at that — and the story had its dramatic moments, all of which I loved. The drama was wonderful, yet my final grade is 8/10.
