I have the same questions about the Emperor as you do. My senses say we shouldn't blindly trust his words to Ling, but maybe I am reading too much into things. And about Lord Yu... Well, I'd like to think there was someone in the room behind some object so we couldn't see them, otherwise, it leaves us with two possible choices — either Lord Yu really talks to himself or he has an imaginary/ghost friend. And I think we've had plenty of the latter in other C-dramas already this summer, don't you think? But I laughed when Madam Wei said, "If Mr Zhao says it's a dove, then it is a dove", reminding me a lot of the mandarin duck shoulder pads Shaoshang made for Buyi. 😅
