I don't think the evidence would change much in this case, actually. The Emperor had decided that General Mo had to die to calm the Anzhou merchants, the court, and the people, and no evidence would change his decree. If it hadn't been Zhao Ling who carried out the execution, then it would have been someone else. And General Mo really understood the situation — it had to be Ling, otherwise the Emperor would have doubted his loyalty. BUT, by staying loyal, he lost the Northwest's support. And of course, made the rift between him and Tingyun even wider. But I really want to praise how the director has chosen to show us Zhao Ling's conflicted state. Not sure if you noticed, but that scene where he received the edict — when he bowed his head we could see his real face and how much he struggled and how broken he was inside about what he had to do to remain loyal to the Emperor, but when he lowered the edict and raised his head we could see his cold, stoic expression as everyone sees him... General Zhaoying, Zhao Ling — the Emperor's trusted aide. Very, very masterful storytelling. Also, that scene where he was standing alone opposite the faction of Minister Yu and all his allies — one against all of them, with no one to have his back... So in the end, the big question really is — is going after power that important that one has to lose oneself in the process? And I think there are a lot of topics in this drama that reflect problems of real life, and that's one of the reasons why this drama is so good. It's not sugarcoating reality. I have watched 34 episodes now and will finish it today. Can't wait to see how they end all this, but my opinion so far remains the same — this drama is a masterpiece in its own way. And about this episode — I think I cried almost from the beginning to the end. This was a tough one.

You are 100% right about how at that point nothing could change the outcome. I was honestly just coping because I was still upset that our two leads were not working together, and I know for a fact if they were both on the same page (starting with the death of fifth last Fu, which cascaded into all the following events) this could have been avoided. However, as you said the search for power can change someone if we allow it to! We will see just how far Zhao Ling will go! On the acting I definitely agree that it was masterful on DY part for sure! Then again I am not surprised because it is him, but it was an amazing scene!
