Hey folks! How's going?

We're about as close to the spooky night as my schedule's going to take me this year, and the weather has truly turned as we head into the long dark. I hope everyone's keeping warm and safe out there!

In the spirit of all that, have a glimpse of what some Serenities might be dealing with - along with Art for this story! Enjoy!

Lauren Pride was a busy woman. Always on the go, always moving from one problem to the next, always planning five steps ahead while checking ten steps back. The blonde was a fashion designer, never seen without a dressmaking pin between her lips or a sketch pencil twirling between her fingers. Her life was a constant cycle of study, research, procure, create, upkeep, sell, start over, with each step hopefully contributing to her skill, or to her purse.

It was a hard job, often thankless, and incredibly cutthroat. Lauren was far from the only clothing designer in Ruby Canyon – there was an entire industry full of the jerks. Everyone was in competition with each other all of the time, and no smile ever truly reached anyone’s eyes. Everything was high stress, and low rewards.

She loved it. Couldn’t get enough. She’d take the sleepless nights, the daggers in her back, the disappointing sales numbers, any day. Every step of the journey from concept to catwalk was a dream to her. It was like she’d been designed in a lab for the fashion industry! No, she wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. She just loved it that much.

But maybe that was just because her other job was that much harder.

“Look, Rebecca has been trying to invite you to her show for months.” Lauren kicked the door to her apartment shut behind her as she carried the last bag of supplies in, resting the largest roll of fabric against her shoulder. “Just say yes! She’ll get you a seat in a heartbeat.”

“I don’t know,” a hesitant voice answered from her phone, pressed tight between her ear and her shoulder. “I wouldn’t want to be a bother…”

“You won’t be a bother, Yevette. She’d love to have you. Literally love it.” There was a whump as the blonde finally dumped the bag she was carrying onto the kitchen table. Or the dining room table. Or the lounge table. They were kind of all the same room, apartments got expensive in Ruby, and she was too much of a human hurricane to have a normal roommate. Unfortunately, there were rules against teammates living together on a permanent basis…

“But it’s so last minute!” the phone protested. “No, no, you’re worrying over nothing. I’ve got a nice book to read, I’ve got my hot cocoa, I’m just going to have a quiet night in and everything will be fine.”

Lauren fought the urge to groan audibly, rubbing her face with her now free hand. “Yevette, it’s Veilnight.” She looked up at the ceiling. Plush pumpkins and orange paper chains were hanging from every conceivable hook, and little glow-in-the-dark ghosts were dangling from the lampshade. The blonde wasn’t taking any chances this year.

“So? She’s never bothered me.” Urgh. Yvette could be so stubborn. “It’ll be fine.”

Oh yeah, no, fighting Desires? Easy. Barely a problem. She and her team were old hands at that stuff. The really difficult part of being a Serenity was managing her teammates. Lauren loved them all dearly but she would also dearly love to throttle all of them them. Being the leader of a bunch of incredibly creative, incredibly driven, and incredibly headstrong career women was… Well, sometimes it was a bit stressful.

“Holi doesn’t mess around, Evie. If she finds out you’re hiding yourself away tonight, she’s going to do something drastic. Remember when she turned Ali into that giant movie monster?” God, it had been in all the papers next day…

“I remember she didn’t turn me into anything.” Damnit. “It’s fine, Lauren. I appreciate you’re looking out for me. But you should probably be taking care of yourself tonight – if anyone’s going to attract the holiday witch’s eye, it’s going to be you.”

Urk. That was… probably true. HoliDaze was a strange Desire. She was one of the most powerful ones on record, with a history that stretched back for centuries, but unlike most of her sisters, the holiday witch made a big deal about how much she liked Serenities.

Of course, being a Desire, her idea of what made a good reward was… not one that any Serenity would share. Holi promised all of them a break from stress and responsibility – an evening of fun and joy on every big holiday. And she made this happen by turning any Serenity she found not properly embodying the holiday spirit into something properly festive.

Maybe it sounded silly, but it was a real issue for Serenities! Serenity Style included, and also including Serenity Scribe, no matter how stubborn Yevette was being.

“I’ll be fine,” Lauren mumbled. “I’ve got an even to go to.”

“Yeah? What event?”

“Uh.” She rubbed her head, brushing her long hair back with her forearm. Nn, why were her thoughts so hazy all of a sudden. “It’s, uh. A costume… thing. Yeah.”

“A costume party?” Yevette snorted. “Wow, that suits you down to the ground. Just try not to critique everyone’s outfits too much, okay?”

“Huh? Wha…” The blonde shook herself, her energy and focus rushing back. “I mean, I’d never!” Then she paused, tilting her head. “I mean, not unless they did a really bad job…”

“Yeah, sure. You behave yourself, leader. Don’t do anything a Serenity wouldn’t do. Now, my cocoa is going to be getting cold, so unless you have any more concerns, I should probably let your costume ready!”

Hm. For a moment, Lauren considered inviting Yevette along to the costume thing, but something deep and stern inside her batted the idea down. No, she would not be getting her friend involved in that. Whatever ‘that’ was.

Instead, she just echoed the sentiment and said her goodbyes, sighing as she hung up and slid her phone away. Hopefully Holi would let the girl off light.

For now, Yevette had been right. She needed to get ready herself. What was the event she was going to, again? Evie had assumed it was a party, but that didn’t feel quite right. Uh. It was… Mn, maybe she should read her invitation again.

… Invitation? What invitation?

Oh right. Yes. That one, over there on the desk. The black envelope with a red glow. That invitation.

Head feeling fuzzy again, the blonde found herself walking across the room to pick it up. Her fingertips tingled as she lifted it, turning it over. ‘For my very special helper~’ it read in elegant, spider-webbed italics, set in shining red ink. Hand written. Personal. Important.

Lauren felt a flush of pride in her chest at that thought. She always liked being appreciated. It was a nice feeling, even though part of her was very, very uncomfortable with it, for some reason.

In fact, part of her said this was obviously all wrong. Glowing envelopes, an event she couldn’t remember any details about, being called a special helper, it wasn’t hard to see that there was a problem here. But that part of her was quiet and resigned, fading from her awareness with every second that she stared into the glow. There was no avoiding what was about to happen.

The envelope opened, and the letter within slid out. Lauren wasn’t sure if she’d done that, or if had moved on its own. It didn’t really matter.

‘To my dearest, most Stylish assistant,’ it read. ‘Our busiest day of the year is here at last, and once again I absolutely must rely on your aid. There’s just so many of you good girls out there these days – how’s one Desire supposed to keep up? As always, I’m ever so grateful for your help, and though the position is unpaid, you can rest assured that one day I’ll make sure you’re properly compensated for all of your hard work~

For now, all I can ask is that you don your uniform once more, and help me provide all of the Serenities of the world with the costumes they deserve to help them properly get in the spirit of the occasion, and enjoy the festivities to their fullest!

Ever thankful and delightful,

HoliDaze~’

Ah. Yes. Of course. That made sense. Entirely… too much… sense…

A wave of fog flooded into Lauren’s brain, like it was flowing in straight through her eyes, the letter in front of her continuing to glow. She could feel her thoughts sinking into the mist, fading away into its embrace, her mind gently dissolving away as the words filled her head.

Her last rational thought, before her rationality closed its eyes and sank into a thoughtless slumber, was that she hoped she didn’t dress anyone up in anything too embarrassing this year…

Then she slumped, her head drooping, arms hanging lax at her sides. A proud smile was tugging on her lips, and her eyes, though glazed and half-lidded, sparkled with anticipation as the clock struck six. The sky outside was already starting to darken, and soon the festivities would begin.

She’d better get into costume!

Without a moment’s hesitation, the blonde turned and marched into her bedroom, throwing open the wardrobe – a large, walk-in style collection of clothing that was absolutely essential for a fashion designer like her, and which took up half of the room. Various dresses and shirts hung from coat hangers, all of which were, of course, delightfully fashionable (the cheap and comfortable slacks she wore at home when she didn’t think anyone was going to see were strewn on the floor) and her collection was a personal point of pride, normally. Today, though, she pushed past them all, shoving everything aside to get to the back of the closet – an area that she hadn’t paid any attention to for almost exactly a full year now.

There, in the shadows, was a black, unmarked paper box. Normally, Lauren’s eyes slipped over it when she was trying to pick an outfit, but today it held her gaze like a magnet. Pulling it out, grasping it by both hands and lifting the lid, it was almost like a religious experience. That rush of anticipation, of uncovering a secret, precious treasure, and drawing it out into the light…

There it was. Her costume. In all of its glory.

If she’d been her normal self, Lauren would have pointed out that there didn’t seem to be enough fabric in the box to come close to making a full outfit for an adult woman, and that given the sizes she was looking at, this was both too big and too small for her at once. But the blonde wasn’t her normal self right now, and she didn’t care about any of that. All she cared about was putting it on.

So she stood up, carrying the box over to her bed, and set it down carefully, like she was carrying a holy relic. Then she stripped, tearing off her top-of-the-line jacket and her cute blue jeans in a frantic frenzy, throwing them into the corner, along with her shoes, socks, and underwear. Only once she was properly naked and breathing free did she feel ready. Her chest rose, skin tingling as she filled her lungs, before reaching inside – and with eager reverence, heart pounding in her chest, she pulled out the first part of her costume.

It was a bikini. It looked like a two-piece set, a pair of black leather panties and a few triangular strips for coverage up-top – actually, the ‘up-top’ part was so small you could be forgiven for missing it entirely – but it was, in fact, a single piece. It was just that the straps joining the two parts were so thin they may as well have been invisible, little more than string.

To Lauren’s bewitched mind, it was perfect. It showed off just the right amount of skin (practically all of it) while still having that sinister Veilnight energy. Her smile widened as she bent down and slid her feet in through the leg holes, slipping the piece up her thighs. Despite their thin texture, they felt so warm against her skin.

Warm enough, in fact, that her toes were starting to turn red with the heat! No, not just red – they were turning outright pink, a bright, happy shade that spread through her skin like a flame along a match. It coloured her feet, rising up from her soles, and rose with her costume, her heat rising with it.

She tried to hold in the moan as the piece snapped into place around her hips, but she couldn’t quite do it, the sound echoing around the room as a lusty squeal. Her legs were pink and sinfully smooth, every trace of body hair having vanished beneath her waist. The only parts of her down below that weren’t pink were her toenails, which had turned into sharp black talons. They tapped against the floor, one after the other, as she tested out how dexterous she could be with her feet…

Her rhythm was smooth at first but then developed a scattered hiccup her toes twitching off beat. It was a jolt from her hips that was responsible, a twitch she couldn’t help as her ass began to swell, expanding in the heat like a soft and rounded kernel of corn. The blonde bit her lip, tapping paused, groan of pleasure trying to seep through her teeth as her cheeks grew, filling the tight leather, and then overfilling with pink, bouncy booty. She was frozen in place, her expression one of blissful satisfaction, the face of a woman receiving a reward she knew she’d earned, until behind was firmly fattened into proper peachy-pear territory, her black leather bikini now all but invisible from behind. Only then, when she finally fit her costume properly and the growth ceased, did she resume tapping her nails.

One satisfying serenade of clacks later, and she was pulling on the rest of the bikini, winding the strings up around herself as she prepared to wrap the upper half over her chest. The strings left pink marks across her body, like they were burning to the touch. But it wasn’t her skin that was sizzling. It was the string, steaming as the heat from inside her radiated out. The colour spread up over her belly and back, reaching her chest and dying it bright just in time before she settled the pair of black triangles over her nipples. They barely fit, and left her breasts almost completely exposed, but everything felt right. And it was about to feel righter.

The pink was climbing over her shoulders, and she wrapped her arms around herself, stroking her costume down, shivering at the heat, as the colour began to crawl down towards her hands. But she couldn’t hold the position for long, not as the heat began to gather in her chest. Soon, she could feel a pair of swelling pressures pushing out, trying to force her arms away, growing bigger by the second. Her smile grew even wider.

Of course, Lauren kept up her self-hug for as long as she could, squeezing inwards and delighting in the building struggle, the feeling of tight, soft flesh fattening and plumping around her – not to mention the delirious pleasure that came from being squeezed so. But eventually, they were just too strong! Her tits burst free, her arms flying away, and jiggled proudly on her chest, both now bigger than her head, pink to the brim, and overfilling her now far-too-small bikini bra. All that was covered was two triangles over her nipples, and a spread of cloth that hung between the two, forming a wide black grin as it pressed into her flesh.

Eyes and mouth together, the design made for a lovely pink jack-o’lantern face – and turned her boobs into a proper pink pair of pumpkins. She giggled at the thought, preening for her bedroom mirror. Her reflection was delightful, and the blonde was almost overcome with the urge to drop what she was doing and pose properly for her inverse audience – but no. She could do that when the costume was finished. When she was complete. This was just one piece, after all.

The next one was waiting for her. She could see it, lying there in the box. Her hands were trembling with excitement as she reached in. (They were also pink, the colour now having spread fully through her impossibly curvy body by now.) When she pulled them back, they were holding another garment made of black leather.

A collar.

Trying not to squeak in anticipation, Lauren lifted the roll of leather up to her neck and slid it around her excitedly heated flesh. It felt wonderfully cool against her, perfectly sized to fit snug. The collar had a clasp made of silver, fashioned into the shape of a jack-o’lantern much like the one on her chest. She threaded it quickly and pulled it tight, sighing with relief as it settled at the base of her neck comfortably.

Then she went stiff, her back straightening, boobs bouncing with the sudden shift of her motion. Steam began to rise off of her body, the heat inside her bubbling to an incredible degree. The blonde gasped, panting, eyes rolling up in her head as pleasure surged through her. A long, captivated moan echoed through the room as it filled with white-grey-pink clouds. And in the middle of it all, Lauren began to sink.

No, not quite.

Lauren began to shrink. Mass was evaporating from her body, drifting away from her as smoke or steam, and she was growing smaller and smaller by the second. Inches were leaking out of her spine, height steaming out of her legs, every part of her body lowering down closer to the ground in rapid descent. In a matter of moments, the blonde had gone from well over five feet tall to somewhere under two.

Though her tits and ass didn’t shrink at all, of course. Her curves remained the exact same size. It was the rest of her that was reduced – which, of course, left her proudest features looking absolutely massive on her tiny frame. She was less than a third of her original height, perhaps closer to a quarter – and she looked positively ecstatic about the change.

“Almost there, almost there!” She cheered, her voice now high-pitched and squeaky, fitting for a woman of her stature. “Just a bit more to go~”

The blonde scrambled back over to the box, clambering up onto her bed now that she was a bit too short to actually reach into the box without doing so. Bending down, shoving out her ass in the process and practically scraping her boobs along her bedding, she dove in and plucked out the last part of her costume: A plastic headband with little black horns poking out of the top. She pulled it down onto her head the moment her grip allowed it.

Instantly, the band disappeared, plastic vanishing into her pink scalp. The horns remained, though, standing up proudly through her hair, growing large and thick, a firm and powerful part of her skull as further demonic features began to appear across her body…

Her ears pulled up, developing into long and pointed flaps decorated with multiple golden studs, sharp and sensitive. Her tongue lolled from her mouth as she panted, stretching down far lower than it ought to have been able, now lasciviously long and devilishly dexterous, easily sliding between sharp looking teeth. Her ass wiggled, eager, willing, and the motion was accompanied by her tail flicking out, long and thin, black like her outfit and capped by a heart-shaped spade. Her tits swelled out another cup size, just because. And her eyes glazed, going dull and dumb, as a deluge of pink smoke hissed out of her ears, carrying with it every worry, care, or trace of responsibility she’d been holding between them, along with all of her smarts. The dumb smile her lips curled into as, with one last flutter of her eyelashes, every last trace of Lauren Pride and Serenity Style drifted out of her head was truly one of pure, lusty relief.

And with that, she was done. Her costume was on. She was finally dressed and ready.

With another squeal, she bounced down from the bed and rushed over to the mirror, curves jiggling and clapping with every scampered step. There, staring back at her, was the dumbest, sluttiest little shortstack demon she had ever seen, her tiny brain clearly just as pink as her skin! It was obvious that the only things left in her head were fashion and desire. Her tail flicked wildly as she blew her reflection a kiss.

She was a Veilnight imp, ready for duty~

“Oh gawd,” she moaned, completely unable to stop herself from pawing at her pumpkins, her other hand sliding between her legs as she panted. “I’m, like, so stupid hot. Mmn, I just… jus’ wanna…! Ahmn!”

The heat inside her was still rising, the need far too great to sate! Even the pleasure flooding through her body wasn’t enough to contain it. The small pink imp burst into flames, vanishing into a colourful pyre…!

Then, a moment later, the apartment was empty. Empty, save for a burned mark in the shape of a pentagram on the floor where a certain imp’s feet had just been standing.

(Fortunately for Lauren’s deposit, it would fade after midnight…)

-

Cheerful music filled the air, played by invisible instruments, violins and trombones, drums and whistles. Together they wove a jaunty melody that combined the wistfulness of winter and the bitter tinge of autumn into a celebratory medley, perfect for a late night walk under the stars.

Though, there were no stars here, nor was there a moon or even a sun. Everything was lit by the same omnipresent light, casting shadows all over, yet having no visible source. The sky overhead was purple – not the colour of a slowly dying day, but rather the kind of shade you’d see in a water-colour, complete with the pale impression of canvas behind hit. Orange clouds drifted across it at regular intervals on an endless loop, all in festive shapes like pumpkins and witches sailing through the ‘night’ sky.

There wasn’t even any ground in this place, really. Just islands floating through the void, carried on the same chilling winds as everywhere else. Each island was different, carrying different structures, different passengers. On one, people merrily danced and sang around a roaring bonfire, toasting apples and marshmallows, with no obvious care for the strangeness that surrounded them. On another, shadowy monsters stalked through city streets, terrorizing the people around them, filling the night with screams. One was filled with factories pumping out endless streams of candy. One was nothing more than a field of wheat, watched over by dozens of scarecrows packed with straw. Each isle carried with it some part of the essence of the season.

In a few months, this place would be a winter wonderland. A few months after that, a bountiful orchard. This was the realm of HoliDaze, the Desire of festivity, an eternally changing place that shifted purposes along with its owner. But tonight was Veilnight – so tonight, this was the bastion of everything trick, treat, or most especially, both.

And on one of those islands, a certain pink imp had just appeared, summoned in a blaze of flame.

“There’s my favourite little helper!”

The blonde had barely landed before she was swept up into a happy hug by a woman-shaped shadow, wrapped in a cloak decorated in spider webs and grinning skulls, her shoulders padded by smiling jack-o’-lanterns. There was no visible face under the cloak’s hood, only bottomless darkness, but even so, you could feel the Desire’s smile somewhere under there.

The former Lauren squealed with delight as she realised who she was in the arms of, and hugged back merrily. “Mistress Holi! Am I really your favourite?”

HoliDaze chuckled, bopping the pink shortstack’s nose fondly. “All Serenities are my favourites. But you’re definitely my favourite fashion imp!”

“Yay!” Far too dumb to notice how meaninglessly specific the Desire had made that category, the imp just giggled with pride. A fashion imp was exactly what she was, after all! Certainly, she wasn’t anything else… “So I can stay here and make costumes with you forever, right?”

The Desire sighed, boosting her imp minion up onto her shoulder as she began to walk deeper into her lair, through shadowed streets of a village in the woods. “I told you last year, dear, and the year before that, too. I can’t keep you here yet. You’ve still got your life as a Serenity to lead.”

“Awwwhh…” the blonde whined, pouting. That sounded familiar, now that Holi said it. “You mean I never get to stay?”

“Never say never, dear.” There was a flicker of a grin under the Desire’s hood. “One day, when you’ve lived your life out there, perhaps I’ll be able to bring you back into my realm forever, and you can be my delightful assistant for the rest of eternity~ But until then, this can only happen one night a year. So let’s enjoy it while it lasts, hm?”

“Yay!” The imp bounced on Holi’s shoulder, tits jiggling happily. That all sounded great to her! One night a year, she was called in to help the Desire out with a big problem. One night a year, she got to relax and enjoy herself as a dumb, slutty little imp. And the next morning, she’d be back to normal, better than new. Lauren would wake up with vague memories of nothing in her head, she was always left with the feeling that she’d enjoyed herself. And she was always well rested, ready for another year protecting the world.

And what did she help with?

“Here we go…” Holi had carried her to a gigantic warehouse, and now threw open the doors, leading her inside. Waiting for the imp within was a rainbow collection of threads, one that took up every wall, along with an infinite wardrobe of fabrics, every material and substance known to man, and countless more that weren’t. The floor was filled with devices – looms, sewing machines, spinning wheels, fashion dummies, anything and everything you could possibly use for creating clothing. It was, quite possibly, the greatest fashion design house in existence. And for one night only, it was all hers.

Grinning, the imp hopped down from her Mistress’s shoulder and scurried over to the fabric rack, grabbing a roll of cloth. “Who shall I make a costume for first, Holi?”

Even the great HoliDaze couldn’t make a proper costume for everyone in one night, after all. Certainly not ones of a satisfactory quality, at least. And you know, sometimes it took the critical eye of a designer to properly assess exactly what form a Serenity should be spending their holiday as, right?

Heehee~ Was there any wonder that the blonde enjoyed Veilnight so much?

The Desire chuckled, reaching into her cloak and pulling out a picture or two. “I have a few ideas~”

The imp’s eyes lit up. Even as dumb as she’d become, she recognised her teammates.

This was going to be the best Veilnight ever~

Oh me oh my. This is a delightful tf- and a wonderful glimpse into Holi’s home!
