In this video, we react to Episode 4 of Fellow Travelers, "Your Nuts Roasting on an Open Fire".

Bradam is back for another queer romance! A HIGHLY requested show, we are watching Fellow Travelers. We have been told to expect all the drama– lots of emotions, sex, passion and the like.

"Fellow Travelers" is a Showtime miniseries based on Thomas Mallon's novel, chronicling the tumultuous romance between Hawkins Fuller (Matt Bomer), a charismatic State Department official, and Timothy Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey), a young, religious man, navigating the McCarthy era and beyond, facing political persecution and personal struggles. 👔🤫

I was just re-watching your ep 2 reaction and was wondering when you were going to continue with FT when I got this notice. Hawk didn't go out and buy the cuff links for Tim. He just went in his closet and grabbed a pair of ones he already owned. I think he only did that so Tim would deliver the envelope to Shine. I really don't like Hawk. He's a selfish ass! Anyway, it's good episode, well they're all good.

Scott aka Blue62

"He's a mess!!!" Yes, he is! And so is Tim, just in a different way. In fairness to both, it's pretty hard to be emotionally healthy when society is persecuting you. But Hawk is ruthless and always looks out for himself above all else. Tim could have been much better off with a kinder, gentler person, as his sister and Marcus would probably say. But he was completely stuck on Hawk (and religion, and McCarthy) and sometimes we love people that aren't good for us. Frankie is the most well-adjusted of the whole group--love his story line. I also love the character of Lucy Smith. I think Allison Williams did a fantastic job with that role. Yes, both she and Tim are victims of the way Hawk runs his life. Thank you for watching and reacting to this. I know Adam says it is the kind of content that stresses him out, but as I'm sure you both also know, it is very important to watch things that tell these stories. Just by putting out your reactions to this show you are helping to educate people about these events and times--people who might not have originally watched the show when it came out. Have a great week, guys!

This show just breaks my heart over and over again. 💔

This is a very unique experience for me to see you guys looking shocked, even puzzled how difficult life back then was and the horror of living in that time . I lived through the 60 70 and the AIDS epidemic and it was hell. I was a kid but knew what I was feeling was the worst thing to happen to a male. In a Catholic school and home there was not one day i didn't think i was doomed to hell after death and doomed to the living death i existed in. You were alone if you were "that way". Always on guard to how i was acting, and never get caught looking at a dudes package. Im hoping that you guys and any queer person today doesn't experience this overt hate and homophobia.

I am so sad reading this. And so sorry for what you had to live through. I'm a 70s kid and remember very well the news and tabloids of the gay killer virus. It was really very much on everyone's mind and (fair enough, scientific community did not yet know all they know now) lots of unjustified fear and guilt was built into general publics mind. That lead to an increasing tabu and gay hate, at least for a little while. I am happy and relieved how far we've all come and how different everything now is. Actually, in my country STDs and HIV are more prevalent in general public (prostitution, promiscuous unprotected sex, sex tourism and IV drug use) than in gay community. Gays are well informed. The stigma is no longer really there, at least not in Europe.

Karoliina

Wow! I did not realize that. Great detail, and gives me an Hawk ick.

Karoliina

My mind is split in half when I watch this with you. I feel that I am watching the important show, learning a lot AND enjoying it as just a show. At the same time I feel heavy watching you two watching this. It's a window of access to experiencing the show on a completely different level, when seeing how two queer men are reacting to all the events. It feels borderline voyeristic, but at the same time it makes me think and feel the events in a completely different emotional level. As a queer woman, the society has been much kinder to me, probably because bi women are not a threat to anyone's ego, they are often sexualized and used as a tool for male satisfaction. I believe that is the reason for queer women to experience life and society differently than queer men. So, as I don't ever face any kind of judgement, it may make me feel like there is no queer/homophobia. Now seeing all this and sitting on the same virtual couch with you two, and many of the fellow travellers in this little community, it's surreal. Thank you so much for this eye opening, super valuable, meta level experience.

Richard Collette

Karoliina thank you so much. i live in the state of Maine in what used to be America and i can see where a lot of this hate and discrimination against queer people is now flourishing and encouraged by the evil government that has taken over a country that I loved ,but no more. I'm 72 and its getting harder to want to live. However people like you, Adam and Bradly and the community they are building helps me continue. Peace and I still believe in it.

Richard Collette

I didn't know that ether. A new low for that man.

I interpreted Hawk giving Tim those cufflinks as him giving Tim something to remember him by in case he didn't pass the polygraph. And why he didn't answer when Tim asked if he would see him again because Hawk was uncertain.

Chris Daniel

So curious what the aftermath of these recordings is like....🤣🤣🤣

Steven Jump

If he didn't pass he would have been fired or named others. So either way he'd see Tim again. So no , he used it to get Tim to do his bidding.

Briana Padilla

I know you guys have a lot to watch but omg pleasee watch paradise that show is crazyyyy

K BF

Adam. "Careful!" To Bradley talking.. Is my inner voices while watching this show😅😅

Anne27x

he didn't! the writer of the show confirmed hawk thought he maybe wasn't going to see tim again.
