College. Come as you aren't.

In this video, we react to Episode 7 of Overcompensating - "Welcome to the Black Parade".

Starting college means a chance to start fresh, to be who you are. So join us as we watch Benny (Benito Skinner) be inauthentically himself! 'Overcompensating' follows closeted college freshman Benny navigate horrible hookups, UV Blue and fake IDs and his friendship with his new friends, older sister and her boyfriend.

This brand new comedy just hit and we knew we needed to watch with you guys... and only you guys! Reactions to these episodes will be a Patreon exclusive. 😌

We can tell this is going to be loud, raunchy, funny and probably very gay. I think this will be a ride we can all enjoy.

Stay tuned for more very soon! 😩

This was a funny episode for me because my karaoke song is in fact Welcome to the Black Parade.

Dionne Lakey

I think Benny's mum definitely knew. Several things this episode and what she says to him in his room is her leaving the door open for him. She gets both her kids.

Nicole Sadler

Seeing how the whole scene in the car played out was so shocking and sad!

It’s interesting to me that Benny is similar to the villain archetype in a lot of recent queer high school stories, but we’re getting to see him grow and learn. Love that they put that horrible moment with Sammy immediately before their reconciliation, it eases some of the heartbreak. I do wonder about Grace and Benny’s relationship. Clearly Grace is resentful of him and they’re not particularly close, but like, how are all of these people blatantly harassing the most popular guy in town’s sister? Has Benny never noticed how awful everyone is to her? Was he always too insecure to stand up for her? My experience of small town bro culture is that there was always a lot of posturing around not fucking with guys’ sisters so it’s confusing to me that Benny would seemingly have such high social status while Grace is bullied relentlessly.

This is my favorite episode of the season! Loved the scenes with Benny and Sammy . Though, I don't buy that Benny didn't know how to fight. He's a High School jock for crying out loud! They tend to get in a lot of fights. You think Benny's dad was gross with his clear braces ? My late father had dentures and would lick them clean at the dinner table!

Chris

Not sure if someone mentioned it but I saw in an interview that when she sang Black Parade there was no music, so she had to do that just her singing, alone. And she wanted it to sound better but they said it's better rough, and I agree, she killed it emotionally. <3

Samuel B

My go to karaoke song is Mr. Brightside. If I’m very drunk then it’s either Sweet Caroline or Teenage Dirtbag 😂

DC

This was such a good episode. That kiss was like opening the floodgates. I would never have the courage to do karaoke but if I did, I would probably be "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey ... or something from Ariana so I could really pretend I could sing! LOL Looking forward to you guys watching the finale!

DC

You have to remember that Benny & Grace are four years apart and she's the older sibling. He would not have been a popular high school athlete while she was in high school getting her reputation and being bullied. He may not know anything about that, given that they're not close anyway.

K

Yeah that's a good point. I don't think they're four years apart since Grace has at least another year of college left (unless she took a gap year or is taking 5 years for her degree or something), but she is older and the nude situation happened in ninth grade so Benny wouldn't have even been a teenager yet. Still think it's weird they would openly heckle her at the same bar Benny is at though.

Loved your reaction and I really enjoy this episode. It really is amazing to see the persona that Benny put on to hide his sexuality and I’m really glad he reconciled with Sammy and even had his first kiss. I liked that Grace and Carmen bonded. Oh and my go to karaoke song is Wonderwall.

Chris

I forgot for my song... When my voice feels decent Son of a Preacher Man has been sung in the shower more times than I care to admit. For a song no one knows though Sour Candy by Melt.

Jackalopee

Yall need to watch Q-force!

Hailey Nicolodi

i think rob lowe is a terrible awful person who likes young girls

Bradam Reacts

Bradam Reacts

UGHHH any killers song TBFH, 'when you were young' I think I would SLAY

Bradam Reacts

it's honestly such a good moment for the show. and such a good song for that moment too. it feels so cinematic and so climactic. AND so nostalgic!!! all the right feelings 😌

Michael D

My go to karaoke is We Are Young by Fun. And this plus the Halloweekend eps are my favourites of the season. Hope we get a season 2!

Michael D

When we eventuality get that coming out scene... I think tears will be flowing with the audience AND Connie & Benny

Ludy

I have to be preeeetty tipsy to do karaoke, but one time I sang "Right Through You" by Alanis Morissette and every drunk girl in the bathroom told me how amazing it was.

Fred Ferraro

I think my favorite part of these is watching Adam dying inside watching through his fingers because I’m right there with him.

soph

adam dying of mortification makes me feel so much more normal about screeching in terror at my laptop oh my goooodddddd

Isak

This is my favorite episode in all of TV ever and I loved watching you guys react to it!! I am hoping and praying for more Lucas Gage in season 2!!! Also, I think it's interesting how the yellow contrast wall behind the TV mirrors the yellow of the show title (dad overcompensating for getting laid off) and also the yellow of SKAM, and how overcompensating is often linked to shame; we overcompensate for that which we feel shameful for, right? So I wonder if Benito Skinner ever watched SKAM and drew inspiration from it. I love this show so much. I highkey think it's a comedy masterpiece.
