I’ve never heard of this show before, thanks for bringing it to my attention! I just looked up the actors, and Jamie Bell played billy elliott back in 2000 - that’s one of my fav films ever. Also, according to wikipedia, richard gadd is openly bisexual, which is also really cool.

The acting is phenomenal. The story is compelling. But my god it was hard to watch, even with a TW. 😬 I'm conflicted. Do I want to hurry up and binge this show now, because I want to see how it ends and how we got to the present day? Or wait to watch (and hide 🫣) with you? I am both excited for the next episode and terrified. I'm not great with violence, but s*xual violence is a whole other level. I'm with Bradley, that was r*pe. Your final thoughts are as always insightful and appreciated and it makes me so glad I found this area if the internet. ❤️

Wow! There is so much to unpack in just episode one! And so much that you can already feel yourself predicting. Trying to tie in from where they are in the 80’s to the present day. And like initially I admit I assumed his wedding would be to a woman… then I berated myself later, reminding myself that we don’t know his sexuality and he could be marrying a man (unless I missed something in the vocabulary) I also assumed that he was kind of doing the somewhat jealous ‘you can’t get married because no one else can have you…’ but then it did seem like they might have been estranged a while… The comment you made about ties in the 90’s 😂😂- I went to secondary school from 92-99 in the uk wearing a tie.. and believe me.. what was ‘in’ about the length or width or the style of the knot could literally change from morning reception to lunch time 😂😂 and every school had a different style too.. if you got on the school bus at the end of the day & your school rivals got on with a similar style then the style was *immediately* changed and they were all called sk**ks for ‘stealing *our* style’ 😂😂😂 Tye style was like modern warfare 😂😂😂

I have seen Richard's Gadd's work before so I kind of knew what to expect, but it's still very rough. It’s a fantastic show, but not necessarily something you want to binge watch. Once a week release schedule is perfect, lol

If you guys haven't watched Baby Reindeer, self-autobiographical netflix dark comedy by Richard Gadd that explores similar themes VERY differently, but incredibly powerful and beautiful...would HIGHLY recommend!

So as someone from Cumbernauld, Richard Gadd isnt! He's from Fife on the east coast, and Jamie Bell is English, but I have heard that Mitchell Robertson, the man who plays young Niall is from Cumbernauld!

So I decided to wait until HBO finished airing all 6 episodes before watching it, foolishly thinking I could binge it over the weekend. Ummmm that didn't happen bc I needed several days to decompress after each episode. This show is wild. At no point was I expecting what actually happened. I'm excited to see your reactions!
